Chapter 3: Be Somebody Else

"You must really be losing your mind, aren't you? Why on earth would I court a prince?" I bobbled my head at the strange idea. Making her amuse herself with a slight chuckle.

"What's so far-fetched about you, courting the prince? I mean, you're beautiful. I'm pretty sure you're more beautiful than most of the maidens there. Though you can be a bit brash and unladylike, that's something a little training won't help."

"Hell no. Like I'd go to a fancy pants kingdom trying to please an abusive prince. There is no way I'm that desperate for money. Uh-huh. No way." I pouted, crossing my arms, looking away in her direction.

"Geez and here I thought you wanted the money to be able to help your sister, Chloe? If you are the prince's bride, wouldn't that help your situation? You will become one of the richest people in this country and you'll be treated like royalty. Ain't that a better life than going around town, picking fights, and stealing things?" She continued to try to convince me, but I had my doubts about the plan. Not that I don't want it but it's just not possible for me, especially my social status.

"Honestly, I hate that." I sighed. "Why there have to be some sort of difference in the way people treat others? What about those that are at the bottom of the food chain like us?"

"I suppose that's just how life is. Even if you take out the bottom row. A new bottom will form because there is nothing in life that's fair. Everything is given to you at birth and you'll have to make use of those tools. If you were born in poverty, you'll live in poverty and then your children will also live the same faith you do the moment they are born unless you do something about it and climb up the ranks." She explains, almost sounding cold and calculated.

"Besides, don't you need an invitation to get into one of those and I don't particularly have an invitation so there is no way they'll let me in," I argued, but she snickered, almost ignoring my concern. "What are you laughing about now? You know, you laugh a lot..."

"We'll just fabricate an invitation obviously. It's so easy to duplicate things and modify them with the use of my magic. As you can see observe." She raises her hand and touches the letter that held the invitation. Without a moment later, the invitation started to glow a pinkish light, the light envelops the paper until finally, two appeared in her hand instead of one.

"See. Told you it's easy. The trick here is to not get caught though. Haha. This duplication magic is pretty much dark magic and is forbidden in the court of magic so you can keep a down low on this one got it?" She winked at me, making me roll my eyes.

"Ya. I do have an invitation but who's going to believe that a tramp like me managed to get inside the castle? I don't exactly have good clothes nor the best reputation in town. What if they find out that I'm nothing but a good-for-nothing thief? Wouldn't they cut my head right there and there?" I told her my concerns but she always has the answer for everything.

Not if you fabricate a lie about yourself. In fact, how about we fabricate a whole life. Let's say you're a foreigner from a faraway land that is traveling here to gain experience and you happened to be invited in the courting of the prince." She suggests, making my face scowl.

"Lying? That's not exactly my thing you know. I'm an innocent little angel." I squinted my eyes, giving a little innocent smile, making Luna roll her eyes at me. "Also, if that's my story then I'll have to get the outfit for it. I'm not exactly the best-looking one here and I don't really have money to buy clothes."

"Oh don't lie. You and I know damn well that you steal things which is one of the biggest sins so don't even try acting innocent dear." She snarkily replied to my comment. "Anyways if clothes are the issue then just borrow one of my dresses. Who knows, if you became a queen one day! We're going together so I'll have your back every step of the way."

"That's the point. I'm not exactly good at lying. I'm pretty sure, everyone with a brain can see past through the act also my face is literally plastered in the wanted signs. I don't think that's the type of attention they are looking for." I tried to shot down this whole courting the prince idea but of course. Luna had a solution for it as always. This clever and smart girl.

"Don't worry! I have a charm for that." She goes to the drawer and grabs a fox tail pendant. "This pendant is a polymorph necklace. It has the essence of foxes of my kind since we are able to change our appearance. This one is able to change your face at any given moment to anything you want it to look like but it drains mana from you so you better remove it from time to time." She hands me the pendant, making me almost accept the offer but my pride and ego got the better of me.

I know I'm a criminal and thief but I would never fabricate a life just to go into the castle. I don't even think that I deserve to be in there and I would just be taking away a chance from another girl that truly deserves the throne.

"I'll think about it. Anyways I'll have to go to my workplace since my sister and I need to eat." I wave goodbye to her as she hands me the pendant anyways. "I'll give you the pendant if you want to test it out. Come to be when you change your mind, the courting is tomorrow anyway, alright?" She smiled as she watched me walk out of her bar.
