Treasure Hunt and Hidden Obelisks

"Ugh."

Mitsuna groaned as she shattered another magic circle of various colours that she planned on using for making another item.

"What is the matter?"

"Oh, you shut up. I'm thinking."

She replied to the General who had simply been standing in her room and fiddling with the floating items in her room, much to her chagrin.

"That is not a way to talk to a General."

"Haiiyyaaa. This is the reason you don't have any friends."

"How would you know of my relationships?"

"Quieeet. I'm working and I might just have to extend my vacation by a week if you keep bothering me."

"..."

Simply said, the General's presence was a distraction and annoyance to her. He constantly fiddled with her created items and asked questions about them even when Mitsuna told him not to touch a single thing as every item needed a delicate and precise touch.

Though, a good thing about the General bothering Mitsuna for the past 2 days straight was that Mitsuna finally had some human interaction with someone. Something she had not had for an extended period of time. Something quite important for her mental state.

So even though she was constantly annoyed by him and rather tilted, deep down she at least appreciated the company, however rotten it may be in her eyes.

She'll never admit that though.

Creating another magic circle halfway, she let out a sigh and shattered it with a flick of her fingers before leaning back in her chair and closing her eyes.

"Problem?"

"Besides you? Lack of inspiration."

'It's not like I want to inspect Natash's bullet in front of you either and become 'obligated' to answer more dumb questions every minute.'

She thought inwardly.

Stretching her hands out above her and her legs as far as she could she cracked her neck once before slouching on her chair.

'I'm tired.'

Closing her eyes for a few moments as if she was about to fall asleep, the General stood and was about to move a greater distance away as not to bother her rest.

But.

A moment later, Mitsuna yawned as loud as she could and stood up from her chair.

The chair instantly returned to its non-primed state.

Snapping her fingers, the barriers and magic circles across the room broke apart and dissolved.

All the items in the air dropped to the ground, none breaking thankfully.

The General narrowed his eyes as the items didn't quite seem 'delicate' to him anymore but said nothing.

Moving to her window she opened up the closed blinds and basked in the sunlight for a moment.

"Ready to finally register now?"

Mitsuna stayed quiet for a moment as she opened the window.

"I guess."

She muttered.

"But nah. I still have time before the deadline. And I'm all out."

She said with a smirk as she pointed her thumb to the emptied bottle of alcohol that stood on her table.

The General couldn't help but let out a deep *Sigh*.

"What, then, do you plan to do with your 'free time'?"

He asked, expecting something normal like shopping or going out to eat, something Mitsuna hadn't done during her time cooped up in her room.

"Well... I remember seeing a really interesting request at the Guild. Something about Black Obelisks far beneath the desert sand that holds some interesting sounding gemstones. After I satisfy my curiosity with that... probably hunt another monster for a Level or two and then go have a drink and some food.

Should have all that wrapped up in a day. "

"All of that in a day? It's midday now."

"Yup. I'll probably make it. Don't know if you could even keep up though."

"You underestimate what a General is capable of."

Jumping and sitting down on the windowsill as she enjoyed the warm breeze, Mitsuna glanced at the General.

"Sure, old man. But there's no need to worry."

She lifted a finger as she spoke with a grin.

"I'll be back by nightfall and then sleep for the rest of my free time."

The General sighed while glancing down for a single moment.

"Fine. Let's-"

He took a step forward while lifting his gaze back up and towards the window.

Sadly for the General, Mitsuna was *Poof* gone.

Making hasty steps towards the open window, he looked outside.

To the right, to the left, down and up.

Besides the regular hustle of the city streets during midday, there was nothing.

The General groaned as he left the room.

Leaving the establishment, he called a few soldiers to scout the city. If she is found anywhere, he would know.

Though a certain feeling told him that she would be back regardless if they searched for her or not.

In response to this 'feeling', he could only sigh in slight annoyance.

"Seal the room. There are inactive explosives and multiple items of great danger inside."

He told a separate group of soldiers before turning and walking off to who knows where.

...

Out in the vast desert, a few kilometres away from the city, Mitsuna stood still with both hands on her hips.

"Freedom every once in a while is refreshing. The air tastes cleaner than usual... I should take a bath when I get back."

She said to herself as she used her familiar and 'fun' travel method of sand skiing that she had previously used to travel around the desert when the horse wasn't with her.

As she skated around the sand dunes while looking around she was constructing a magic circle on the side.

Littering the vast desert, as usual, were pillars of strange rocks that she couldn't fully study during her last life and cherry blossom trees.

'As weird as always.'

She thought about the rather common sight of stray cherry blossom trees while completing the magic circle and moving to a large stone pillar.

"I wonder if you're hiding anything~?"

She said as she punched a small hole in the rather sturdy rock pillar and placed her spell inside.

"Nothing. But you're still of use."

Providing mana to the magic circle, she started using the rock pillar as a natural radar system of sorts.

Sending thin waves of mana through the sand beneath her, everything underneath the sand that disrupted the mana wave would have a small rumble created at the surface.

So, finding the Obelisks shouldn't be too difficult.

Jumping up onto the pillar with a few steps supported by morphing winds, Mitsuna studied the horizon.

The mana waves wouldn't travel too far, so if nothing was in the pillar's vicinity, she could just destroy the magic circle and move on to a different pillar.

Seeing a few small spots of sand rumbling in the distance, Mitsuna didn't want to make a hasty judgement and go straight there so she waited a while longer.

No rumble big enough to indicate the presence of an Obelisk.

As she was about to jump off the pillar and shatter the magic circle, she felt a strong rumbling beneath her feet.

Looking below, she could see the sand shaking as if it was feeling fear.

Looking closer, she could see very faint bronze spikes surrounding the pillar that had not previously been there.

"Well, shit. I know where this is going."

She said out loud as she teleported a few tens of metres away and started constructing some combat spells.

Looking on as a 'Worm' of sorts blasted out of the sand and devoured the pillar of stone whole, she could help but feel the slightest bit threatened by its size.

"Area of effect enhancement should be added."

She muttered to herself with an uncertain grin as the size of her magic circles tripled and her eyes narrowed.

Appraising the big worm before it could retreat back beneath the sand, Mitsuna could read it as being a [Child Crusher Sandwyrm], thus making a memory resurface.

'Is that supposed to be the [Infant Crusher] from that Guild mission? I thought it crushed Infants not that it was an infant itself!'

She thought at elevated volumes before fully completing a few combat spells and slammed her foot on the ground creating a medium-sized magic circle to help her detect the 'Wyrm' and for it to notice her presence and attack.

"Come and help a girl make a pretty penny."

She taunted. Even if the wyrm didn't hear the taunting, it could now feel a small presence filled to the brim with mana more clearly than it had before, when it first attacked.

The ground started Rumbling. Quaking. Shaking. Shivering.

The size of the beast was immense.

Waiting for the right moment, Mitsuna left her created magic circles to float above her as she teleported away the moment a

*BOOM*

Loud as all hell blast came from her previous location.

The Sandwyrm seemed to have a strange ability to create miniature explosions of some kind each time it erupted out of the sandy depths. What else could explain the sheer volume of its attacks?

(Both meanings of 'volume' apply here.)

The Sandwyrm expected to already be digesting the Gusher of mana it had sensed, but when it found its stomach empty of any matter besides sand and strangely orderly mana formations, its instinctual fury deepened and its appetite grew.

The two magic circles that were now inside the Sandwyrm activated with a wave of Mitsuna's hand.

Ice formed as it created a small cube that shot out its corners as spikes that were tied to the cube by freezing chains.

Piercing and sticking to the insides of the Sandwyrm, it was fair to say the feeling wasn't pleasant. As if eating something sharp and feeling it pierces you on the way down and out. Safe to say, bad.

The second and third magic circles that were connected by mana-filled thread to the ice spell now carved themselves onto the cube of ice.

The Sandwyrm had long since descended back down into the sand.

Mitsuna couldn't perfectly sense the location of the wyrm even with the spells that were connected to her by mana in its stomach. The depth of the wyrm was increasing with every moment as if it was aiming for the planet's core itself.

Clicking her tongue, she was a bit disappointed that she wouldn't see any fireworks today since the killing blow would most likely be dealt underground.

Stretching and cracking her fingers, Mitsuna created a quick Earth element spell. Thanks to its evolution, it barely took a moment to iron out the details.

Even with her Title that reduced all magic creation time to a minimum, she wanted to analyze and construct the best magic circle she could for the occasion, thus creating them a step at a time and making them as perfect as she could.

Activating the spell and slamming her foot down, the sand beneath her hardened and broke apart as a small chasm was created.

Falling into the sandy depths, she sent out a manual wave of mana while taking out her gun.

Sensing an open space further down, she stuck her hand into the sides of the crevice and pulled out a small chunk of hardened sand.

Using her skills she changed its shape, quality and nearly everything about it. With actual matter that she could use as a base, the mana consumption of [Creation] would decrease by a good amount.

Creating a few bullets and engraving simple [Fire] element spells onto them in quick succession, she felt herself nearing the open space beneath the sand.

The connection to her spells was stronger and she could now activate them at any time. First, though, she wanted to see the Sandwyrm fully with her own eyes before she turns it into minced meat.

Nearing the open space, she sensed a flimsy barrier coating the area around it. Falling on top of said barrier, she noticed its elements being that of time and space.

Tapping her foot on it twice, she could tell its quality was rather low.

Shattering it so that a small hole is created for her while keeping the barrier mostly intact, she fell through a final thin layer of loose sand and entered the space.

Boxes of stone and sand littered the entire floor. They seemed similar to individual houses but there were no roads between them. Some stood taller than others yet all of them were partly crushed.

Further away from Mitsuna, who now stood on a small foothold of loose sand and wind, was a pristine castle, with deep emotions and care behind its design it now stood untended for and crumbling, the barrier surrounding the place didn't stop the continuance of time inside.

Near the castle gates, a crater and next to the castle, on the right side a large broken area of the barrier where sand had piled up into a mountain.

At the centre of the crater, a familiar Sandwyrm and even a few miniature versions of itself.

Narrowing her eyes as she quickly analyzed everything in the area, she left the questions for later as she noticed a tower of obsidian black at the back of the castle, barely visible.

'The Obelisk?'

She thought questioningly before returning her gaze to the Sandwyrm.

Readying her gun, she spoke.

"I don't really care if you are protecting your siblings... if you lack the strength to protect them from me here then at least you can buy them some time to escape. Though... I doubt it..."

She had fully seen the entirety of the beast in front of her so she was satisfied.

The beast was strong enough to give her a few levels if she killed it and she wanted to explore the place after the battle. So, she fired a bullet that exploded into fire and heavily scorched a large portion of the Sandwyrm.

'If your parents were here it would have been a different story. I guess you were using this place as a nest or home, huh?'

She kept firing bullets, as these were just beasts, with only instincts to devour and survive in their heads.

The Sandwyrm was scorched all over, burned heavily, it had blocked Mitsuna's sight of the smaller Sandwyrms, the infants, as it stood like a wall.

Clicking her tongue as the bullets weren't doing a fast enough job, she snapped her fingers as the two magic circles engraved on the ice cube within the wyrm glowed and activated.

First, the spikes of ice that were piercing the body of the Sandwyrm exploded into large spears of ice. Each spike formed a few dozen spears that ripped chunks of the Sandwyrm's body apart.

The wyrm screamed. Shrieked.

As the first spell finished, the second activated in a timely manner.

A column of flame and heat with streaks of lightning and plasma forming around it.

It blasted into action, incinerating all biological matter in the Sandwyrm's body.

The wyrm was thrashing around in pain.

Stopping half a moment later. Dead.

As it fell to the ground, lifeless and burnt to near ashes, Mitsuna glanced behind it.

No sign of the smaller Sandwyrms.

Mitsuna let out a quiet sigh.

'I wonder if the cycle of revenge will continue with this?'

Landing on the floor of the place she found herself in, she stretched and looked around.

"Okay."
