The Narcissist (2)

The voice was silent for a long time before it spoke again.

"You dare to fool with me!" This time the irritation it's voice was obvious and a killing intent was oozing out.

This narcissist didn't even bother trying to keep up it's sweet façade for a moment more after it lost it's temper.

She sighed inwardly.

"I wouldn't dare, everything I've said is the truth. That is a very large part of who I am. You asked and then I answered. Wait.." She paused for a moment and looked as though she were seriously considering something. "You don't know…? How is that possible? How could a superior being such as your self be lacking in knowledge so of course you do. You mustn't take offense." There was a subtle change in her choice. The entity could tell something had changed, but it's just wasn't sure what since she still honestly sounded so sincere that it made it had for it to understand what the change in her voice meant. "But yea that's who I am. I've spent a considerable amount of years on this. I can tell you they were some of the most grueling years of my life." She shook her head in contemplation as she honestly thought back to those years of schooling, the two years of internship, and then the years she'd spent with the F.B.I. It wasn't a lie to at all to say that she'd spent a large part of her adult life on her career.

The voice was silent for a long time as it listened to her. Because of her voice cultivation technique she had developed quite a few natural attributes. One of them was to be able to lower the defenses and inhibitions of those that heard her voice… another was her ability to tell when someone was lying. She knew this brat was telling her the truth it was just that she was completely unwilling to admit that she had no idea what this brat was talking about. And then of there were those subtle fluctuations in her voice that she couldn't understand.

"… and that year I thought I was going to die of exhaustion. The commander really had no soft feelings for the fairer sex…" Bai Mei Li lamented as she recalled her time in boot camp. That time had been truly awful. At the time she couldn't wait for it to end. Now she wished she'd been in it longer… learned more. Just generally took it more seriously. It would have been quite beneficial to her now.

The entity behind the voice was still quiet as it listened trying desperately to find some clues as to what the hell this damn brat was talking about. What was a car… ?

"… those damn vapors. They were obviously just as bad as cigarettes… who needs flavored cigarettes. Aren't you just trying to get children addicted. They should be ashamed of themselves!." She continued without stopping, venting her imaginary anger. She wasn't even talking about her career anymore and just sprouting none sense. Although she really didn't like vapors she was only talking about them to meet her own ends.

"You.. what are you talking about!" Finally the voice couldn't take it anymore and appeared in front of Bai Mei Li.

Bai Mei Li looked at the girl in front of her. She wasn't as solid as Bai Mei Li was so she clearly wasn't human but she had an exquisite little almond shaped face. She was simply adorable. She looked to be somewhere between eleven and twelve. She had her shiny silky hair in the style of a bun on either side of her head. She had ornaments which had dangling tassels on each one. She was wearing a pink two piece Qipao. The embroidery was delicate and beautiful, as was the silk shoes she wore. It was all perfectly suited to a little girl.

Bai Mei Li had examined her less than a second before she had gathered all the information she needed about her. Observations and deduction was her area of expertise. She wasn't a much of a fighter in her past life. She was a intellectual. She was much more accustomed to using her mind to fight against someone the most violent individual's in the world. She'd been nearly in her forties in her past life and she'd never gotten into a fist fight. Her words were usually more than enough to solve her problems.

She maintained her kind smile. Her face showing none of her inner thoughts.

"I'm so sorry. I moved off on a tangent. I do that some times. My professor often told me to watch out for that. You know when I flew from Wuhan, China to America that year for university that whole time I was in the airport I kept trying to remember my teachers words. I was so afraid of messing up my interview…." She sighed softly as though she were in deep thought. Her eyes half closed as though she were reminiscing.

"You… You… You're bulling me!" The girl couldn't understand anything Bai Mei Li was saying and it was frustrating her. How long had she existed? How could this brat be talking about so many things that she couldn't understand!? This was nonsense and yet she could clearly hear the truth in her words… she wasn't lying at all. But how was this possible?

She girl had a deep scrawl on her face. She was clearly unhappy. Bai Mei Li appeared to be apologetic but she was completely unperturbed with the girls outburst. By now she had this situation about seventy percent understood and ninety percent under control.

Chuckling in worldly Bai Mei Li looked up and put on the appearance of someone looking far off to the distance.

"Of course given the fact that you here in this mysterious space you a clearly an entity of high intelligence, so I wouldn't dare or play games with you. Here in this place you obviously make the rules. My life could be threatened by you any time on any of your whims. Little Goddess you may not know this but I value this little life of mine quite a bit… I've been through so much, how could I not." She sighed and then looked at the girl her eyes as cold as the ice Qi flowing through her meridians. "I wouldn't dare play tricks with you her in your domain. How could I bully you?"

The girl was slightly startled. No matter how she looked at the brat before her, she didn't appear to the submissive type at all.

"Well what do you think little Goddess? Is my profession a worthy one?" Bai Mei Li asked, that gentle smile ever present as she watched what appeared to be a girl in front of her. Bai Mei Li's eyes glimmered with extreme intelligence. While the smile on her face was gentle and compassionate her eyes were ice cold. They didn't contain a hint of warmth. This was a complete transformation from the expression of love and indulgence she showed Xiao Jun. It was also different from the looks of fear, cleverness, and determination she typically showed demon beasts. This was a look of absolute dominance.

Bai Mei Li could finally feel that familiar sense of control and confidence she lacked when she was facing demon beasts. It was that feeling she always felt when she entered the interrogation room. She never felt fear when she was facing those human formed monsters. She felt a sense of curiosity and a strong desire to show them their own weakness. To make them feel the unease and fear that they often installed in their victims.

"Won't you tell me your name little Goddess? It really feels like you have me at a disadvantage…. It's very uncomfortable." Her voice was tinged with natural cold so frigid that it chilled one straight to their soul. In the other world she'd always had an imposing aura when she was in the interrogation room when she needed to be imposing. But now was different… her presence had real pressure and it was frightening. Perhaps it was because she was a cultivator now.

Whatever it was the girl was reacting to it and was growing more and more in easy. She didn't understand were this invisible pressure was coming from, she'd only called her soul here. Bai Mei Li had awakened her the amount of pressure that this new Bai Mei Li was able to release when examining the rune array at such a low cultivation level. She'd became curious and summoned her soul. She'd wanted to intimidate her earlier so that the brat would understand who was boss, but now…? The look in her eyes… her voice. The way she stood, the subtle way she moved. They all evoked real fear in her.

"My… my name is Bi Yu." She said reluctantly. Her unease clear on her small face.

Bai Mei Li was relaxed in her comfort zone. She felt no pressure at all. How many cold blood murders had she confronted? They were a evil that many people truly couldn't comprehend, but Bai Mei Li did, she understood them perfectly. This 'girl', while killing was certainly something she could do with no problem at all she wasn't a sociopath, and she was far to naïve to think she was a match for Bai Mei Li when it came to a battle of wills and wits.

"I see." Bai Mei Li said softly. The smile on her face slowly ebbing away. She understood it of the situation was now perfect. The girls reactions and responses had given everything away. Bi Yu had willingly laid herself bare.

First her impatience showed a late of maturity. Though her tendency to call the other Bai Mei Li a brat indicated she was a lot older then both her and the previous owner, her tendency and mannerisms showed that mentally she wasn't much older than an adolescent child. After all it didn't take much to agitate her, and when she was upset she almost immediately showed her emotions. This showed that while she might have been watching the world she'd little to no interaction with it

Was it because she was isolated in this place for long that she hadn't really matured? Or was she incapable of maturing any further than this.

Bai Mei Li was openly examining her now. It was a very rude thing to do and it made everyone that she did it to fidget in discomfort without fail. The reason simply. Bai Mei Li's eyes were just too penetrating. They left a person feeling naked and exposed before her. It was as though they could hide nothing from her

"Stop!"

"Stop!" Bai Mei Li said at the same time she did. "Stop? Why? Little Goddess Bi Yu I find your existence fascinating. What are you I wonder? This worlds version of artificial intelligence? You're a spirit companion right? What are you attached to I wonder…" Bai Mei Li's bone thrilling voice

"I don't know…"

"I don't know.."

"Stop it!"

"Stop it!"

"How are you doing this!!"

"How are you doing this!!" Bai Mei Li's smile was terrifying in it's calmness and knowing. "Hmm… is it her ring? But why don't I have any memories of you? Did you not show yourself to that other Bai Mei Li?" She knew that the Bi Yu had to be attached to the ring. That was the only thing she had on her body worth having a spirit companion attached to it. But Bi Yu had stayed silent while she'd been at the previous Bai Mei Li's side.

"I… I… she wasn't strong enough yet." Bi Yu said in a small voice.

"I'm not much stronger then her… in fact in terms of cultivation she was much stronger then I am right now. I'm complete a newbie compared to her. So why?" Bai Mei Li mused aloud as she thought through all the differences between her and the original owner. Although thinking for a big there was only one thing that was completely different between the two of them and that was their soul.

"Is it my soul?" Bai Mei Li asked curiously.

Although Bi Yu didn't know what a 'newbie' was seeing how the word was used helped her to get a general understanding.

"No I.."

"No I.."

"I just thought it was strange that your soul was so much more substantial… so much stronger then other people. You don't even have a cultivation technique for strengthening it yet. I just wanted to meet you… I thought I might recognize you as the rightful owner."

"So you wanted to intimidate me before you recognized me so that you could be the boss is that right little Goddess?"

Before when she called her little Goddess it sounded like how a servant would speak to their master. It had been extremely pleasing to hear. But now it sounded different. Bi Yu was an expert when it came to the usage of the voice and yet she was having a hard time finding the reason why the way Bai Mei Li was talking right now was scaring her so badly.

The answer was something Bi Yu would probably never be able to just figure out on her own. Bai Mei Li was an expert on the psyche of individuals. She understood what made people act a certain way. So she knew how to place pressure in a way that would give her the result that she wanted.

In simpler terms Bai Mei Li knew how to manipulate the way Mozart played the piano.

"Bai Mei Li… you can just call me Bi Yu. We'll be working together for now on after all. And you wouldn't be losing out submitting to me. Aren't you lacking in knowledge? I have existed for a long time. I can tea.." She shut up and swallowed her non existent saliva. Bai Mei Li hadn't moved much. She'd just tilted her head a little bit. She certainly had moved toward her but Bi Yu took a step back. This brat was just too imposing. How could just tilting her head a little bit frighten her so badly. She just wanted to stop her from calling her 'little Goddess'. She didn't like it anymore. She couldn't remember if she'd ever liked it.

"Little Goddess I don't recall giving you permission to call me by my full name… why don't you think of something a little more appropriate.?" Bai Mei Li's smile was so gentle that it could make her unparalleled face so enchanting that one would simply no longer be capable of thinking clearly. But the feeling you got from her eyes and voice… it were such a starch comparison that it could literally shock you back to your senses, while simultaneously frightening you so badly that still wouldn't be able to speak.

"How about Miss… miss Bai?" Bi Yu Asked timidly

"I like that, thank you very much little Goddess. You should recognize me quickly… properly. You won't lose out. Bi Yu I'm not very powerful right now but I can promise you this that are very few people in the world that can out think me. Follow me and I promise to bring you to see the this world in a way you would of never imagined possible." She said with an extremely confident smile.

There was a period of imbalance in her emotional state. It was a difficult thing for a scientist to accept this kind of reality as a fact. But now that she had she would move forward without hesitation just as she had in her last life.

She was confident that once she was properly a person of this new world she would be able to climb to and sit at the summit of this world as a cultivator as she done previously as a profiler.

Bi Yu looked at her in dismay. This wasn't her plan at all. She was supposed to be the master. She was the spirit companion of the Phoenix ring! But looking at the woman in front of she knew that she absolutely would have to submit to her. She'd made a mistake. She'd just back out and go back to sleep.
