Chapter 23

9/14 8:19 (Summer, Day)

Luna and Sabel left the weapon's shop, this last one having bought nothing this time, but keeping in mind the range of prizes for what she would want in the future, once the team's fund was big enough to afford it without too much trouble.

The black-haired Human turned to her companion.

"So do you want to visit an Enchanter?"

This was after all a Dungeon City and so, while the smith of this place wasn't able to make a Magical Item, no, because the best Bladesmith and Blacksmith of this city at once had no talent when it comes to Magic at all, there were numerous Enchanters in this city, specialized in various ways to turn weapons and armors into magical ones.

Thing that while potentially interesting, she didn't particularly care about observing enhancements right now as it would only distract her and spreading her attention too thin right now.

"No. I have nothing to enchant, I would not allow anyone that I don't know and am not interested in to enchant anything of mine and studying enchanting would only distract me right now even if they fully adapted to the change in rules, thing very likely after all this time."

"Yeah, I suppose that the reason most of the enchanters around here closed down for around a month after the change in rules. None of my team had any problem adapting, not even Hale with his Magic, but I know for a fact that other Parties did. What about you?"

"I had no problems with it. Magi, the individuals that directly use Magecraft, are those that would have the most things to change and adapt, especially enchanters based on that."

An additional point about this was the specific rules everyone operated under now, Rules she was quite familiar with as they were the very same ones of around 63000 years ago, the time Lunarians invaded this World whose memories she could access subconsciously from pratically the start of her Rebirth, further acceleration her adaptation to the new Rules.

Sabel continued to guide her, passing by the church in the city square with neither of them reacting to it.

While most Humans and around half of those considered People did worship Gods in general, some more actively than others, Sabel instinctively understood that the other had no interest about said worship or places for such activity, thing quite common between Vampires or other very long lived sapient races.

After all Gods' purpose was only to support their weak followers, protection that she had no need nor desire for.

They passed through various stall, buying a couple of sweets, before finding themselves at the door to a particular shop? Well, shop was correct enough considering how in this place someone was paying for a service, within a deserted road.

In this case said service was a conversation with an Elf medium to commune with the souls of deceased Persons.

Thing that upon hearing made Luna smile mockingly to herself, well aware that in this World this was only a way to commune with Records of the deceased and not the deceased themselves, as they would be long reincarnated as her innate knowledge and understanding of a Lunarian told her.

Upon seeing her interest, Sabel moved, opening the door for and letting Luna enter within the shop before her.

"Thank you. Now, how do you think this place works?"

A smile formed on Sabel's face at the thanks before a frown formed on her face.

"I dont know. I have no idea how being a medium would behave as an occupation. I'm sorry."

"Don't worry." Luna calmly replied as she entered the place, the door being open and the two found themselves in a completely dark room, the only lights being the opened door behind them and the slightly ajar one before them from which a soft purple light flowed from, the walls and floor around them being completely black.

Luna calmly proceded with Sabel following closely to her right, ready for any incoming attack.

As she opened the door that separated them from her passing curiosity, purple light almost blinding them.

Various candles with purple flames flickering on top illuminating the dark purple walls of the room they found themselves in, various curtains softly flowing because of an absent wind.

Luna calmly turned to the one waiting for them, what looked like a slender Elf in her early to mid twenties, long flowing gray hair covering a light blue, tending towards lavender, dress, very pale skin and purple eyes shining and flickering slightly.

Around her a visible Aura of Curses was similarly flowing around her, various limbs briefly forming before collapsing back into her Aura, a short spear in her left hand pointed to Luna as Runes flared within the room as purple shades rose from around them.

The Lunarian stood there, curiously observing the shades, runes and the Elf before them as the Shades finally fully manifested, twenty copies of the woman before them made out of purple smoke, each one of them wielding an exact copy of the spear and her clothes.

"How curious. These are not made out of Mana, Vital Energy or Vital Mana. Additionally while I do believe you are using a Familiar-type Skill, I would guess these copies are more similar to automatic Drones than proper Familiars. Additionally... " She passed her hand through one of them, finding no resistance as if it was an illusion.

"What do you want, you soul-eating abomination!"

At this exclamation the two visitors had very different reactions.

"Wow, rude." Sabel.

"I see, you are able to see souls then." Luna was able to understand how this Shades worked now. "They are pieces of your Soul, separated from the whole and possessing this shells."

"Taking pieces from her own Soul… Isn't that dangerous?"

"It could have been depending on how she did it, but to explain…" Luna in response simply took an hair and cut a piece off before showing it to her. "This is the equivalent of the process." She took a second, third and fourth before knotting them together while her hairs grew back and she took another part and joining them together with the previous ones. "This is a rappresentation of the way she uses her soul to make her Drones. But I have a question for you" She turned back to the Elf which stepped back from her hungry gaze.

In response to said step, the Clones thrusted their spears at her, trying to impale her to the wall behind her.

She stood still until the instant she felt the first spear pierce her skin, causing her Black Blood to grab said spear and impale the Drone in response.

Said attack however passed straight through the Drone like the spear within her.

She noted as the Drone became physical the moment both Vital Energy and Mana flowed within it and it ceased to be physical when they didn't anymore.

Not only that, but the unstable mix of Vital Energy and Mana the Drone inserted into her was trying to Curse her.

"I see." The Drones hesitated around her as her Black Blood formed a sharp circle around the neck of all the Drones, ready to decapicate them the moment said Curses became material.

"I would say that it's quite rude of an Elf, even if a beautifull one like you, to trying to impale me before even dinner, but after all you are not a real one, aren't you?"

"Wha- Are you sure? But the Wards should have-"

"They would have reacted if she was a Monster taking the shape of an Elf, but this is not the case, isn't it? She is instead a much more complicated situation, right, Former Second Floor Boss of the newly discovered Undead Dungeon?"

A flinch was made from both Human and "Elf" at the words of the false Dhampir, one because of pure surprise and the other a flash of fear.

"How could she be the Boss?!"

"How do- What do you mean?" The medium stepped back another couple of times, her Shades slowly moved before her even with their new collars.

"Let's start from the beginning, shall we? First of all, the Runes and the Shades are both Curse Attribute and while an Elf specialized in that is quite rare considering how Spirits exist only in the five elemental Attributes, it is not impossible to reach this level of ability. Your ability to see and manipulate Souls however is quite outside the bonds of what you should be able to."

Luna stepped forward again causing the former Boss to step back again, her concern now firmly becoming fear at the soul-eater in the room with her.

"Additionally you don't have any relations with True Dragons to inherit their "Soul Sight" and the only other beings with it are Undeads. Finally you already have a Unique Skill unrelated to Souls, don't you? The ability to turn malice and negative emotions into a form of immaterial Curse Attribute Energy different from Mana, Vital Energy or a combination of the two."

"How can she be here then? If she is a Dungeon Boss, she should be unable to leave her room let alone the Dungeon itself."

"Exactly. That is the reason I said she was the former one. And the reason why she is not anymore is quite simple. We are not the first to complete the first Floor of that Dungeon. The one before us reached the second floor's Boss, a Ghost of some kind, that possessed and fused together with her body giving birth to the being before us, a new Person with her own Unique Skill Awakened with the Evolution of her Racial Skill to a new one."

As her Shades prepared to attack, this time together, she stuck first, stakes of Black Blood piercing them all through the heart and holding them in place, this time physically touching them despite their own and the "Elf"'s effort.

"How could you-?"

"It's very simple really. They are only physical if fueled by a combination of Vital Energy and Mana so I forcefully filled them with Vital Mana until they are physical, even if this cost quite a bit. And now…"

As Sabel watched curiously, Luna's Black Blood started forcefully pumping within all the Shades, faster and faster and in a pattern similar to a beating heart, until the "Dhampir" opened her mouth wide before stabbing her fangs into the river of blood piercing the Curses, sucking in her own Black Blood and the fragments of Soul within them, forming 20 spheres of condensed Curse within her mouth.

She moved her tongue, crushing the sixteen of them into a single mass of Black Blood, Curses and Soul Energy, fusing them and repurposing it into a new purpouse.

While she could use said mass to create a new Familiar, she had another purpouse, the creation of a thing the previous her never succeded in creating, a Growth Skill of her own.

A Skill she could now create because of her knowledge and ability to manipulate Souls, her ability to devour others for power and the adaptability she retained from the Human half of Scarlet and most importantly as a base her own Unique Skill "Singularity".

An ability that she was finally able to enjoy, the ability to convert the Magicules she could have absorbed from her prey and the potential Familiar she could have created from their Soul into an expansion on her own Skills and an increase of her own Potential.

*Luna Gained the Growth Skill "Devouring Evolution".

The other four, skillfully and carefully kept in her mouth, were quickly swallowed to function as fuel for her new Skill.

*Luna's Innate Skill "Authority: Vital Mana" absorbs the Ability Skill "Mana Shaping" and Ability Skill "Mana Forging".

*Luna's Innate Skill "Authority: Vital Mana" Expands because of the Growth Skill "Devouring Evolution".

Luna smiled at the flavor, equivalent to around 4/5 of a soul, before concentrating on the change of her Skill as it was time to test it out.

Her Vital Mana flowed outside her body before condensing in five clumps around her, forming into perfect copies of herself made out of purple energy, each one of them standing there waiting for orders.

She carefully examinated them, one at a time, before reabsorbing them and recreating them, in different time order and quantities, a satisfied expression on her face.

Her ability to shape Mana or enchant Items was maintained and enhanced slightly as was her Vital Mana.

She stretched before nodding to the former Boss Monster and sitting down on a chair made out of her Vital Mana.

"I'm in an excellent mood right now, so this is your chance. Explain yourself and maybe you can convince us to spare you. I'm well aware that the former Boss you should have been around high C-Class while the Elf you should be low C-Class at worst, but the process of Rebirth should have lowered you back to E-Rank and at the moment you are around mid D-Class. Com'on, you have our curiosity for now."

The older-looking one grimanced, well aware that as she was right now her chances to kill the soul-eater before her were quite slim and she needed time for her Runes to channel Vital Energy and Mana to fuel her Unique Skill if she were to fight back.

"Fine. My name is Mafel."
