Chapter 4.1: Another Lively Lunch

12:00 p.m., Taimadou Academy, Cafeteria

Homeroom didn't have anything substantial, as Ayako only re-explained the current magic system. As its contents were lengthy, it took the whole supposed four hours.

Rin was walking with Mihiro behind the other four. As expected, they both weren't holding hands which each other. The other four looked at the two repetitively which made them feel uncomfortable.

The six queued up and ordered their respective meals and took a vacant table for six. When everyone was seated, suddenly the couple was immediately stared at.

"So… what's your magic Rin?"

The first one to interrogate them was Hijiri, with a sarcastic question. In this case, Rin understood what he was asking, but didn't understand the reason why.

"We both just started going out yesterday, that's all."

"Can you please elaborate, Rin?"

This time, it was Fuka who voiced out. The whole table seemed eager to inquire about their relationship.

"I was interested in her, and her likewise. So, we started going out."

"Ah-!"

Hearing that comment was hurtful for Fuka, as it implied that Rin wasn't interested in her. But she kept her resolve and wanted a more in-depth explanation.

"In what sense did you find interest in her, Rin?"

Akane asked what Fuka was currently thinking. She had a pretty good understanding of the current situation: Rin being Rin as per usual. Nonetheless, Akane still wanted to understand why Rin chose Mihiro instead of Fuka, for Fuka's sake.

"I seduced him at his dorm."

"…"

Mihiro was slightly frustrated at this teenage love interrogation and dropped a bomb.

The table was silent for a while before Akane had something to say.

"Rin didn't you tell me last night that nothing happened when I was gone..."

"Well, yeah."

Rin promptly replied as he felt that his safety was in danger.

"So, how do you explain this?"

"Putting it simply Akane, it's a misunderstanding."

Rin's first goal is to dispel any sort of possible ill-intent towards him by attacking the root of the problem, Mihiro's statement. His next goal would be to make Mihiro retract her absurd comment.

"But to some degree, it is the truth though.

Mihiro was intent on standing on her ground though, which made Rin even more confused.

Unbeknownst to Rin, Mihiro internally laughed to herself while having fun on her own.

Rin wanted to get out of this bind as he feared that he would accidentally utter something that he wouldn't normally say. Thus, he decided on a maneuver to lessen to load on himself.

"She indeed attempted it, but the positions reversed in the end."

And he decided to throw his accomplice under the bus.

"Huh?"

"Doesn't that mean— "

"R-rin?!"

Rin laid his back against the wooden chair and crossed his arms. It was signifying that he was done elaborating. Now the pressure is on Mihiro.

Mihiro understanding what Rin meant, became slightly flushed with embarrassment. Rin felt that this was a cute trait of hers.

"Um… What Rin says is true, he forced me to the wall without my consent— "

And the conversation went back and front like this until recess was over.
