A Simple Fisherman in RWBY
Chapter 02
- Argenti Ovans –
I crouched and poked at the mysterious yet very cute Pokémon that appeared at my feet. "Mudkip!" cried the Pokémon with annoyance as he pouted. The Mudkip didn't hesitate to slap away my finger.
I scratched the back of my neck in slight amusement. "Sorry, little buddy, I didn't expect what happened was real." The Mudkip stared at me and nodded as if he understood me. I could also understand the vibe he gave me, like "As long as you understand."
I curiously looked at the mudkip, who returned the gesture with a cute head tilt. I let out a smile on my face as I rubbed his head. "Mudkip~"
"So you are my partner, right?" I asked between the head pat.
"Mudkip~!" cried the Pokémon as he rapidly nodded his little head when he heard me.
I grinned with happiness. "Cool! My name is Argenti Ovans. I'm a little guy! Nice to meet you." The Mudkip jumped into my chest as I fell onto the ground again, but I was completely fine this time as I enjoyed the affection of my new partner.
"Mudkip! Mudkip! Mudkip!"
I suddenly thought of something as I stood up, hugged my Mudkip in my arms, and looked at the situation of the portal I had created. Inside the pond, I saw the portal size was still relatively big, but I wasn't sure how long this portal would last.
I was lost in thought for a few seconds until I decided to do something about it as it concerned my future. I needed more information and the full capability of my semblance to plan my future actions.
I let down my Mudkip as I patted his head. "Sorry, buddy, but I have to work for now, so let's play later, alright?" Fortunately, my Mudkip was an understanding Pokémon as he nodded and jumped inside the pond. "Don't fall inside the portal, okay?" I shouted, feeling a little anxious.
"Mudkip~!"
He should be fine, I thought and looked at him swimming happily. Then it was time for me to bust my ass, so I took out my Scroll from the backpack I brought with me beside my seat. I quickly opened the stopwatch app to see how long my portal could last naturally without my influence.
I should continue fishing, and I'm curious if I should get more stuff from the Pokémon world or if I would get other things from another world. Just thinking about it makes me giddy at the prospect of getting a giant mecha as I stomp Grimm or some incredible magic. So I cast my line and then started the stopwatch with my Scroll.
I sat back down and waited while watching my little Mudkip, who was enjoying the water. It made me feel really relaxed, and I felt like my life became even more enjoyable with this new addition in my life. Honestly, it was starting to get lonely when I had no one with me.
Life was good.

[Pallet Town]
"Bulbasaur! Come on, help me with the berries!" shouted Daisy as her voice echoed across the small forest inside her grandfather's ranch. "There you are, you little lazy baby!." Said Daisy as she found slumbering Bulbasaur sleeping in the shade.
"Bulba~?" the Pokémon mumbled, letting out a sleepy yawn. Daisy approached the Pokémon as she picked him up from the ground. "No slacking off today, Bulbasaur! It's your turn to help me gather the berries!"
Bulbasaur seemed even lazier when Daisy picked him up in her arms. He was clearly unenthusiastic about working. Daisy obviously discovered the little guy's unmotivated attitude. She sighed as she knew she needed to find a way to motivate the Pokémon.
"I know just the thing," she exclaimed. "How about some Poke Poffin from Grandpa's trip to Sinnoh? Would that motivate you?"
Bulbasaur's eyes, once filled with laziness, suddenly lit up with pure excitement. "Bulba~ Bulba~ Bulbasaur~!" Daisy shook her head with a smile. "Of course, you would be motivated because of food! You little glutton!"
Humming a lively tune, Daisy led Bulbasaur into the greenhouse, where her grandpa's assistant had arranged berries and plants from various regions during her journey. She set Bulbasaur down, ignored his whining, and fetched two empty baskets – one for her and one for the reluctant Pokémon.
As Daisy went to the Cheri berry section, Bulbasaur sighed, fully aware that he couldn't shirk his work now, especially when she bribed him with food. With a sigh, he extended his two vines from his back, gripping one of the baskets. Bulbasaur marched towards the Tamato berries, toughening himself for the task, and began plucking the ripe ones from the branches.
Bulbasaur diligently continued gathering berries for a very long time. However, he was temporarily sidetracked when he plucked a particularly juicy, fresh oran berry, causing him to drool with anticipation. Glancing over his shoulder to ensure Daisy wasn't watching, Bulbasaur couldn't resist the temptation and devoured the succulent treat in a single bite.
"Bulbasaur? Are you finished?" Daisy's voice echoed from the other side of the greenhouse as she startled Bulbasaur.
"Bulba! Bulbasaur!" he cried in a panic, hurriedly returning to his berry-gathering duties. The last thing he wanted was to be caught slacking off. Daisy had a fiery reputation with the Pokémon in the ranch, and he knew better than to incur her wrath.
Observing Bulbasaur from a distance, Daisy couldn't help but think whether she was being too harsh with the playful Pokémon. A thoughtful hum escaped her lips as she contemplated giving more food for his hard work.

After a considerable amount of time, Bulbasaur completed the berry-gathering task. As he dropped to the ground, he settled the basket brimming with berries beside him. Bulbasaur yawned from his hard work. The basket of berries was placed beside him with a selection of Oran berries, Mago berries, Pecha berries, Tamato berries, and Nomel berries.
As Bulbasaur rested, he couldn't help but doze off, patiently awaiting Daisy's return. She had finished her tasks earlier and had gone to store her basket, leaving him in the greenhouse alone in a peaceful mood.
Unbeknownst to Bulbasaur, a sudden portal appeared atop his basket. A mysterious hook slowly emerged from the portal and descended towards the berries basket. And with a fluid, calculated motion, it grasped the handle and pulled the entire basket into the portal, vanishing from Bulbasaur's careful care.
To make matters worse, Daisy entered the greenhouse just then, only to find a dozing Bulbasaur with no basket in sight. Daisy returned with a plate full of Poffin as she froze in place. She slowly walked toward the unaware Bulbasaur and lightly tapped his forehead. Under Daisy's tender touch, Bulbasaur woke up from his light nap, wearing a confused expression.
His confusion didn't last long as he smelled the alluring scent of the Poffin in Daisy's hand. Bulbasaur drooled as a small pool of saliva formed on the floor. He masterfully controlled the two vines from his back to snatch the plate from Daisy's hand, only to be stopped by Daisy herself.
Bulbasaur halted, looking at Daisy in confusion. "Bulbasaur?" Daisy glanced around to ensure she wasn't making a mistake until her gaze met the only likely culprit. "Where did your basket of berries go, Bulbasaur?"
Bulbasaur tilted his hand in confusion as he used his vines to point where he last left the basket. However, his expression shifted into shock with his mouth agape. His entire body froze in place, and then his body started to tremble. He panicked as he frantically ran around the area, only not to find the missing basket. "…Bulba," cried Bulbasaur as he teared up badly.
"No Puffin for you, and get back to work, mister." declared a stern Daisy as she departed from the berry farm up with the plate of Poffin. She even ignored the lifeless Bulbasaur on the ground.
After a few minutes of sadness, Bulbasaur stood up from the ground as he swore to find the culprit, who decided to mess with him and make him miss some delicious Poffin from Sinnoh.
Believe it, He, Bulbasaur, will never let this grudge go.

"Huh, I didn't expect to get so many berries from the Pokémon world… So this portal is pretty much just Pokémon-related stuff?" I thought out loud and inspected this basket of food.
God, I hoped I didn't steal this from anyone who needed that, right? Otherwise, I would feel awful… not that they would know it was me, so at least I'm pretty safe from their anger.
"Come here, Mudkip! I have some nice berries with me!" I shouted and attracted my buddy's attention, who happily swam in the pond. But as soon he heard me and the berries, he immediately jumped out of the pond and landed beside me with a fluid movement.
I whistled in appreciation as I now knew my Mudkip was very good and healthy. "Go ahead and dig it, but don't eat it all, okay?" And just like that, without needing me to feed him, Mudkip devoured them with happiness. I was content to rub his head as I curiously decided to try some Pokémon food products.
I took out a lovely juicy oran berry and took a bit out of it. "Wow! Oran berry so good!"
