A Rare Precious Breed

“Listen dummy, I am so sorry,” I said “for pushing you away and making feel like I don’t appreciate you enough.” Without a word being said, Angela just turned and hugged me. Angela was mostly a hugger in emotional situations. “It’s okay,” she whispered in my ear “I love you dummy.”

Chapter 6

Joshua's P.O.V

Samantha and her groupies entered the class and Precious was still not back from the bathroom. I looked around and everyone was already in class and the lecture was preparing to start with the lesson. I took out my phone and texted Precious.

"Where are you, the lesson is about to start?" I sent the text.

It only showed one tick and now I was convinced that something was wrong. My entire life, I never cared or felt anything about a human being but here I was, worried about a human being. I kept on glancing at the door as Mr. Johnsons kept on paging on his book, now I could feel that something was really wrong with Precious. But a part of me just said "maybe she decided to go back home." But I had her bag on me, how could she go home without it.

"This one is the funniest, look at her." Samantha and her friends said.

They were glued on Samantha's cellphone, maybe watching funny clips. Samantha glanced at me then grabbed her bag as she moved away from her groupies and came towards me. I sighed as I noticed that she was coming my way. She moved Precious' bag to an empty chair so that she could sit next to me.

"That's someone's chair," I said.

"But she's not here," Samantha replied as she sat down.

"What do you want?" I sighed.

"I just want to know you more," Samantha said.

"What do you want to know?" I asked.

"Anything, let's grab ice cream after school," she replied.

I nodded not knowing what I was getting myself into. Deep down I didn't like Samantha and right now if Precious was to walk through that door and see me sitting next to Samantha, she would be upset about it.

"Where is your girlfriend anyway?" Samantha asked.

"Who's my girlfriend?" I replied.

"The owner of this bag," Samantha said.

"Oh, since she went to the toilet," I replied "she hasn't come back yet."

Samantha giggled "Okay," she said.

Mr. Johnsons got up from his desk and everyone stopped with whatever they were doing and gave him their full attention.

"Alright, good morning, everybody," Mr. Johnsons greeted the class.

He glanced at an empty chair that was next to Samantha.

"Where is the owner of this bag?" he asked.

"She's on her way sir," I replied.

"You're not sure about that," one of Samantha's groupies said then they all laughed.

"Alright, let's start with today's lesson," Mr. Johnsons said "she'll catch up."

The lesson went on and Precious was still not showing up, I checked if the text I sent earlier was read or not and it was still just one tick. It wasn't normal that someone would go to the toilet for so long. Samantha glanced at me.

"Don't worry, she'll come back" she whispered "I'm sure something is delaying her."

I just nodded then pretended like I was listening to Mr. Johnsons talking about his Adolph Hitler theories. Throughout the class, I didn't pay attention. Towards the end of the day's lesson, Angela walked into class and whispered something into Mr. Johnsons ear.

"Is that her bag?" Mr. Johnsons asked Angela.

"Yes," Angela replied.

"You can take it," Mr. Johnsons said.

Angela glanced at Samantha as she took the bag, and I wondered what was going at this moment. Angela walked out of the class as I curiously asked myself what really happened to Precious. Maybe she was just bunking class, I mean she was fresh from high school so she was probably keeping up with the high school behavior. She didn't seem like the kind that would just take school for granted, but as a werewolf I knew that human beings were species that could pretend to be something they weren't. Finally, the class ended, and Samantha glanced at me, I knew at this moment that she was going to remind me about the ice cream date.

"We're going right?" she asked.

Not knowing if Precious would show up or not, I just nodded. Samantha waved to her groupies.

"We can go," she said.

We both walked out of the class to the parking lot, and I was still wondering why Precious never came back from the toilet. We got to the car; I was still quiet not saying a single word back to Samantha.

"It's nice ride you got here," Samantha said.

"Thank you," I replied.

"Are you really worried about that girl?" Samantha asked "Did you really like her that much?"

I started the engine and drove off.

"She seems like a very calm person," I replied "she's not like you and your friends, she just different."

"Why didn't she come to class what happened to her?" she asked.

"I have no idea," I replied "enough about Precious, tell me about yourself."

"Well, I'm just a crazy girl who loves to explore," she replied.

"Explore is a very big word," I said "explore in what way?"

Samantha glanced at me and smile, we exchanged looks and deep down I felt like she wasn't as bad as I thought. The different between her and Precious was that if she wanted something she would go get it, she seemed to be wild. While Precious seemed like a well-mannered girl who was governed by a set of principles.

"Well, I love adventured," Samantha said "whether it's sexually, or whatever. As long as it's adventure I do."

"You do look like a savage," I replied.

Samantha giggled "yeah you can say that," she said.

"Do you have a boyfriend?" I asked.

"Do you want to be one?" she replied.

"I'm just asking," I said "I don't want to get shot by some crazy boyfriend claiming that I stole you."

"Nah, I'm a free agent," she replied "so, what's up with you and Precious?"

"Nothing, why?" I asked.

"I just see how you are around her," Samantha replied "this morning you said you had a date with her, but right I'm in your car and we are going to a date."

"You know what they say," I replied "getting a woman is like getting a job, you apply everywhere until you get one."

She laughed "my first-time hearing that," she said.

I glanced at her in silence and found a parking spot then turned the engine off, we got out of the car. We walked in to my mom's favorite human restaurant. When I was growing up, I never thought that werewolves and human beings could coexist but here I was, in an expensive human restaurant on a date with a human being. A waiter took us to our table and Samantha looked around.

"This place looks expensive," Samantha said as she was sitting down

I just glanced at her without a word coming out of my mouth. Samantha seemed to be enjoying that moment.

"Is your dad rich or something?" she asked.

"Something like that," I replied.

"Wow you have no idea how I have been dying to come to this restaurant," she said.

"I'm glad you love it," I replied.

The waiter handed us the menus and we ordered, if I said that I didn't have fun with Samantha I'd be lying. She was fun; I enjoyed her questions and her dirty seductive responses to every question I asked. I didn't like girls like Samantha but she was changing the narrative, she made me feel like I misjudged her. After the date, I drove her back to her house. She offered to come with me to my place but I refused.

When I finally arrived at home, I could hear people yelling in the house, I parked the car in the garage and went inside. Mom and dad were having a very big argument.

"It is your fault that our son is so weak," dad said to mom

"What?" mom replied "All I want for our son is a better future."

"A better future?" dad asked "a better future with the humans? You are killing our nature; we can't be like the humans and we'll never be humans."

"All you want is our son to be like you," mom said "because of you, someone is fatherless. You and your friends terrorized the people of this neighborhood, for what? For a stupid murderous mindset that you call nature?"

"But that's what we are," dad replied.

"That's what you," mom said "Joshua can never be like you, let him build himself into something better than what you and I were. If he wants to be like you, he will decide."

"Not it my house," dad replied and angrily got out of the house.

Mom took a deep sigh and sat down on the sofa, as I came out, I stood there and we exchanged looks.

"You head that?" she asked.

"Yeah," I nodded.

"Come here," mom said.

I went closer, the she grabbed me and gave me a long hug. She released me then looked at me in the eyes.

"I love you," she said as she gave a kiss on the forehead.
