Watching Diana, battered and bruised, fly out of sight, and observing Stephen rise from the throne and take step by step through the ruins.
Witnessing this, Menalippe grew desperate once again.
They had initially seen Diana emerge with divine power and believed she could defeat Stephen. They hadn't anticipated his immense strength. Could it be that not even the god of war, Ares, would stand a chance against him? A sense of despair permeated the air. First, the queen was defeated, then the general, and now even Diana, the Awakened Divinity, had suffered defeat.
Who could possibly save Paradise Island now?
Menalippe took a deep breath, and a second later, her eyes hardened. What she was about to do would likely lead to her death, but the Amazons would never surrender!
As she prepared to pick up her weapon, she noticed someone rushing out ahead of her.
Artemis!
This name represented the goddess of hunting and the moon, one of the twelve gods of Olympus, and also the most heroic warrior in the Amazon Guard.
Menalippe was about to rise and fight alongside her when she saw Artemis halt a few steps in front of Stephen.
Then... she knelt down on one knee.
"My Lord!"
Her actions stunned Menalippe, as well as the other Amazon fighters, and even Stephen.
Stephen paused and gazed at the Amazon warrior with curiosity. With long black hair and Amazon-style silver armor, she may not be as tall as Diana, but she was still a remarkable sight. Her facial features appeared fierce and heroic, and her expression remained impassive.
"Do you wish to save them?" Stephen spoke lightly.
"No, I do not!" Artemis denied. "I merely wish to inform the Lord that I am from the lost Amazons. I am different from them."
"Long ago, my tribe abandoned belief in the gods of Olympus and turned to worship the Egyptian goddess Isis. Isis protected us from external interference with everlasting sandstorms." Artemis paused momentarily to assess Stephen's reaction, finding him unbothered before continuing. "Later on, misunderstandings and conflicts arose between our tribe and the Amazonians on Paradise Island, resulting in the destruction of our home. We could only assimilate into Paradise Island from that point onwards."
"Therefore, I implore you, my Lord, to grant me the opportunity to demonstrate loyalty on behalf of the lost Amazons. I will assist you in managing everything and ensure that everyone on Paradise Island becomes your most obedient servant," Artemis declared, lowering her head.
Stephen regarded Artemis, kneeling before him and awaiting his response, with a smile. "Will everyone on Paradise Island truly become my most obedient servant?"
"Yes, I promise!" Artemis affirmed.
"In that case, they won't perish, correct?" Stephen inquired, narrowing his eyes.
Artemis trembled slightly and remained silent.
"Very well, go and arrange for your queen and generals to receive treatment. If they die, your efforts will have been in vain," Stephen suddenly smiled after a brief pause. "Oh, and have someone bring Diana back."
"Yes!"
Artemis stood up and addressed the others, "What are you all standing around for? Have you not heard the Lord's instructions? You, take them for treatment. You, inform the guards outside to search for Diana."
"Hurry!"
A loud shout awakened the still-confused guards. Menalippe looked at Artemis, finally rising to her feet and obeying the orders.
Hippolyta and Antiope were carried out, and several individuals gave chase in the direction Diana had disappeared.
With Stephen's permission, Artemis summoned the guards who followed her commands and gathered all the Amazons together. She announced their fate as slaves. Although some resisted and refused, they were swiftly and harshly suppressed. Artemis personally punished these individuals one by one, while the others were restrained with handcuffs and chains.
"My Lord, what else do you require?" Artemis took control of the situation on Paradise Island within a short period and returned to Stephen.
"What you have done will inevitably render you unable to remain on Paradise Island once this is all over, correct?" While Artemis had taken these actions to save lives, there were many who would choose death over surrender, let alone gaining trust. Acting on her own accord was truly ruthless. Even if these people were to understand Artemis, she might not be able to stay on Paradise Island once her freedom was restored.
"As long as you are satisfied with me, it is sufficient," Artemis whispered.
"You remind me of someone, her name is Helena. She sacrificed herself, disregarding others' opinions, in order to achieve her goal, just like you," Stephen patted Artemis on the shoulder. "I favor the new and abhor the old, and I don't remain in one place for too long. As long as they do not perish and wait for my departure, they will be free."
"Different times, different places. There will surely be many intriguing things. If you are willing, accompany me."
"There is no need for the Lasso of Truth to ascertain your loyalty. Do not disappoint me."
"Yes!"
Artemis responded quietly, her thoughts concealed.
Shortly after, Diana, who had fallen into the sea, was brought back.
She remained unconscious, still not awakening from her coma.
"Retrieve the Lasso of Truth and have someone attend to her. Then, send her to her quarters," Stephen instructed Artemis.
Artemis complied and swiftly returned with the Lasso of Truth.
The Lasso of Truth was one of Diana's primary weapons. Legend has it that Hephaestus, the god of fire, forged it from the golden belt of the earth goddess Gaea. It was unbreakable, and once ensnared, few could escape its grasp, compelled to speak only the truth.
Its effects on gods were uncertain, but when Diana was entangled in the lasso, she would grow weak and lose her powers. The impact was somewhat akin to Kryptonite's effect on Superman, albeit less potent.
Stephen took the Lasso of Truth from Artemis and addressed her with a smile. "Would you like to try it? Though the likelihood of defeating me is zero."
Artemis shook her head, remaining silent.
Stephen tossed the Lasso of Truth back to Artemis. "Accompany me to see Diana. She is my greatest pleasure."
Artemis stood there dazed, not expecting that he would entrust her with the lasso. After a brief hesitation, she fastened it around her waist and led Stephen to Diana's room.
