Chapter 90: Unwanted guests

Kai swallowed hard as Hina's piercing eyes drilled into him, waiting for an explanation.

The tension in the room was suffocating for him, not only from Hina's presence but from Akira, who remained unbothered, leaning nonchalantly against the kitchen counter.

He had the feeling that a fight between them was about to happen.

"So... what's happening here?" Hina repeated, her voice low but dangerous.

Kai hesitated, unsure of how to respond without making things worse.

The last thing he needed was to fuel Hina's possessiveness, especially with Akira standing right there. But lying to her would be even worse.

"Akira... she tried to strangle me," he admitted, voice wavering a bit as he rubbed his still-sore throat.

To his surprise, Hina didn't seem shocked.

In fact, her lips curled into a small, amused smile, and a light chuckle escaped her.

"I know," Hina said, her voice steady, almost playful. "We talked about it while you were unconscious a while back."

Kai's jaw dropped. "You... knew?"

Hina laughed again, the sound laced with amusement but also a touch of something darker.

She glanced at her "sister" Akira, who was still lounging lazily like nothing had happened.

"I figured it would be a good test for you. After all, if you're going to be part of this world, you need to learn how to survive. Right, Akira?" Hina said, with a friendly tone of voice, not showing any sign of worry towards her boyfriend.

Akira nodded slightly, a smirk playing on her lips. "Exactly. I wanted to see if the kid had any fight in him. Looks like he needs more training, though."

Kai couldn't believe what he was hearing.

They had planned this? Without even warning him?

"Hina could've at least told me about something like this..." He thought in his mind, while scratching the back of his head.

"You two are insane," he muttered under his breath, a sense of "betrayal" creeping in.

But he couldn't deny that there was truth in their words.

He wasn't ready for the world he was slowly getting pulled.

A very dangerous world filled with people like Hina and Akira, or probably even worse.

Still, that didn't justify the chokehold ambush.

"So why are you here, Nee-Chan?" Hina asked, glancing at Akira with a slightly raised eyebrow. "I doubt you came all the way to choke Kai for fun. Not that I mind." There was a teasing glint in her eyes, but beneath that, Kai could sense her possessiveness lurking just beneath the surface.

The fact that another female touched her boyfriend seemed to have bothered her a little.

But it was Akira.

Another person would've been already dead in the blink of an eye.

Akira straightened up, finally showing a more serious expression.

"I need a place to stay," she said bluntly. "Things are getting... complicated out there. Too many wrong people would recognize me, and staying in one place for too long isn't safe." She added with a sigh.

Hina crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing slightly.

"And why Kai's place? Why not stay with Sakura? She's good at laying low, isn't she?" She said with an almost menacing tone of voice, while loking her eyes into Akira's

Kai noticed the shift in Hina's tone.

The possessive edge was starting to show.

He knew her well enough to recognize the signs of her jealousy creeping in.

Even though Akira and Sakura were "close" in certain ways, the idea of another woman staying with him was clearly getting under Hina's skin.

Even if it was her sister, Hina couldn't let something like this slide so easily.

Akira shrugged casually.

"Sakura suggested this place, actually. She tracked Kai's GPS through his watch and said it'd be the perfect hideout. No one would think to look for me here." She said, with a normal tone of voice.

Akira perfectly knew that any kind of change, even the most insigificant one, in her tone of voice would've only raised Hina's suspicious.

Kai blinked.

"Sakura... was tracking me?" He felt a strange mix of annoyance and unease while taking a rapid glance at his watch.

He didn't think that Sakura was watching him constantly.

Kai actually thought that the GPS had a turn on/off.

So that's how Akira had found his apartment.

He made a mental note to have a serious talk with Sakura about privacy once this whole mess was sorted out.

"She always knows where you are, that's how my auntie works." Hina said with a nervous smirk. "Honestly, I'll never know why she's always been into spying other people without their consent. She has always done that. No wonder that she was a police officer." Hina added.

She then sighed a little and spoke again.

"That's... also a way of protecting you , i guess." Hina said.

Kai didn't know how to feel about that.

But before he could dwell on it further, Hina's next words snapped him back to the present.

She then moved her glaze towards her beloved Nee-Chan and spoke with a direct and cold tone of voice.

"Why can't you stay with Sakura, then?" Hina asked, her voice sharp with a hint of accusation. "Why does it have to be here with Kai?"

The room grew tense, and Kai knew exactly what was going on.

Hina's obsessive jealousy was rearing its head.

She was protective — no, way too possessive — when it came to him.

The thought of another woman staying under the same roof was probably driving her mad, even if the woman in question was someone she perfectly knew.

Akira noticed it too. "Sakura's place is already being watched," she explained calmly. "She's smart, but she's not invisible. We don't want to risk leading anyone back to her. Besides, I'm not here to stay forever. Just until things cool down." Akira added, trying to calm Hina's jealousy.

Kai could practically feel Hina's silent seething beside him.

Her eyes flickered between him and Akira, and for a moment, he wondered if she would explode right there.

But instead, she took a deep breath and composed herself, her possessive rage morphing into something else: determination.

"Fine," Hina said, her voice even but with a dangerous edge. "If she's staying here... then I'm staying too."

Kai's eyes widened. "Wait, what? You're both going to live here? With me?"

Hina's eyes bore into his, her possessive nature fully on display now.

"You don't think I'm going to leave you alone with her, do you? I'm not stupid, Kai. And besides... I've been thinking about it for a while. I'd rather be with you 24/7, just in case anything happens. That's why I grabbed all my important things. I had already planned something like this." Hina said, while giving a mischievous smile to her boyfriend.

Akira raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Wow, Hina. Didn't take you for the clingy type."

"Shut up," Hina snapped, her voice tight with irritation. "This has nothing to do with you."

Kai rubbed the back of his neck, already feeling the headache forming.

How had his quiet, solitary life turned into... this? Now he had to deal with both Hina and Akira living with him? He wasn't sure how much of this he could handle.

"So, let me get this straight," Kai said, his voice laced with disbelief. "You're both just... moving in?"

Hina nodded, a small but satisfied smile tugging at her lips. "Yep."

"And I don't get a say in this?" Kai asked, already knowing the answer.

"Nope," Hina replied, her tone final. "I'm not letting you out of my sight."

Kai sighed heavily, feeling the weight of the situation settling on his shoulders.

His once-quiet apartment was about to become a battleground of personalities, and he had a feeling that this was just the beginning.

Akira, ever the troublemaker, grinned and stretched. "Guess this'll be fun, huh? Don't worry, Kai. I'll stay out of your hair... mostly."

"Mostly?" Kai echoed, dreading what that could mean.

Hina shot her a warning look. "Don't push it, Akira. I'm already being generous by letting you stay here."

Akira raised her hands in mock surrender. "Relax, Hina. I know where the line is."

Kai wasn't so sure about that. He could already feel the tension crackling in the air between them. This was going to be a disaster, and he was stuck in the middle of it.

He shot a glance at the open door, briefly considering the idea of making a run for it.

But then he sighed.

There was no escaping this. Whether he liked it or not, his life was about to get a lot more complicated.

"But we both agreed on the fact that he needs to be trained, right? The Kobayashi Dragons are very dangerous, and this cute little boy would be dead in 0.3 seconds." Akira said with a teasing tone of voice.

"Cute little boy" Hina repeated these words in her mind while a glimpse of jealousy raising into her mind.

But she did her best to hide her possessive nature.

But with no results.

"Yes. He clearly needs to be trained. But don't you FUCKIN' dare to flirt with him. I perfectly know how much you like younger guys and how much you like to tease them." Hina said, with a cold and whispering voice.

She then took some steps towards her and then looked directly into her eyes.

"He's mine and mine alone." Hina added, marking her last sentence like a veiled threat.

Kai remained silent the whole time while a shiver ran trough all his spine after hearing Hina marking her territory.

The two girls in front of him were actually way stronger than him.

He couldn't speak a single word.

The aura around them was majestic and scary at the same time.

Akira bursted into a playful laugh.

"Hahahahaha!" She laughed. "Don't worry about that, I still want to be alive." Akira added , trying to reassure her "sister" about her noble intentions.

They then both looked into Kai's eyes, like they were launching a challenge.

"You're gonna be trained, and I won't go easy." Hina said, with a cold voice.

Akira followed her.

"Yep. Exactly. We're gonna train you to become a skilled assassin." Akira said, with a mischievous tone of voice.

Kai then let out a sigh.

"A skilled assassin..." Kai repeated into his mind.

He clearly didn't want to be a killer.

But deep down he knew that he also had to defend himself, and that would've meant to even kill without remorse.

The strongest battle was against himself.

"Okay, I'm in." Kai said with a brave and decisive tone of voice while clenching his fists.

"Good boy..." Hina replied while biting her lower lip.

"That's how I want you, Boy." Akira said, with a smile.

Kai's training was just at the beginning, and his survival dependend on how fast he would've learned everything.
