A D&D Wizard in DC

Alexzander is your not-so-average nobody. He wakes up, goes to work, comes home, and sleeps. Only the occasional superhero battle breaks his days of mediocracy. Then one day everything changes. Suddenly he gained the ability to cast magic and not just any magic. No, he gained the spells and abilities of a high-level magic caster from D&D. Not only that but he gained the ability to use powerful rituals. However, life won't be easy for Alexzander as old wounds from a past best-forgotten open. ...... This fanfic is a slow burn. So don't expect major plot points to happen quickly. Additionally, this is kind of my " Don't think too hard about it fic", so don't expect a masterpiece. Also, the Cover Pic isn't mine.

Beginnings

....

In a run-down apartment in the city of Gotham, a young man lay motionlessly on a badly-kept mattress staring at the plain white walls that made up his home.

The man looked to be in his early twenties, had curly brown hair that reached his shoulders, an average build for someone his age, a somewhat handsome face, and brown eyes so dark it looked almost pitch black.

This man is Alexzander Haper, a bank worker, a loving son, and a nobody.

Ever since getting out of high school, Alex has been in a constant unbreakable cycle.

Wake up, go to work, come home, go to sleep.

Only the occasional superhero battle broke him out of this mundane cycle.

But mere moments ago something had changed.

Raising his hand Alex conjured four balls of light that floated harmlessly around him.

These lights looked identical to Will-O-Wisps from the popular roleplaying game D&D.

"Dancing lights." Murmured the brown-haired male to himself.

This ability- no, spell, that Alex had just used was Dancing lights, a cantrip of the wizard/sorcerer spell list.

"This should be impossible."

Yet the proof was right there floating not even ten feet away from him.

It wasn't just this either. Knowledge, very deep and expansive knowledge, of every single spell up to the ninth level was in his head like a ready-to-use dictionary.

This alone would have been enough to cause a shock, but there was more.

" The magic of ceremonies, Ritual magic."

It wasn't just that he learned how to do rituals, a few of his magics from D&D were rituals after all, but it was the fact he held knowledge of countless others that left him speechless.

" Rituals to make it so you never have to eat again, others to keep you forever clean, and even more to gain special abilities and even Godhood." said the male with exasperation.

Sitting up in his bed Alex ran a hand through his brown locks.

" What the hell am I supposed to do with this?" Alex asked himself as he got off his bed.

Until now he was just a normal person and didn't have any delusions of fame and fortune. The thought of even attempting such things in the past was instantly shut down when thoughts of his potential rivals came to mind.

But now…

" No, don't be stupid. Just because you have a little power doesn't mean anything." He said quickly.

He shouldn't get a big head just because he could call lightning, heal wounds, summon monsters stronger than most men, revive the dead, create life, and even Warp reality.

Did he mention he got spells from all spell lists including clerics?

" Okay, not helping." Complained the spell caster.

Giving a glance at a clock that sat on a desk near his bed, Alex grimaced.

"It's already six? Damn, I'm gonna be late for work." Harper grumbled unhappily as he began to get ready.

Around thirty minutes later Alex stood in front of his door dressed in a black suit with a suitcase held in his right hand.

Looking at a watch adorned on the same hand he realized he wasn't going to make it on time.

Suddenly his mind wondered to a specific spell.

For a minute he hesitated at using it but eventually caved.

Taking a deep breath Alex closed his eyes and concentrated. Imagining the alleyway near his place of work.

Then not a second later he disappeared from his place near the door.

.....

In a dirty ally near Gotham bank, Alex appeared in a flash of light. Stumbling slightly from disorientation Alex nearly fell face-first into the ground if he didn't catch himself.

" That's gonna take some time getting used to," he mumbled.

Taking in his surroundings Alex allowed a small smile to stretch across his face.

It actually worked! He teleported!

It was one thing knowing he had the power to do it, and actually doing it!

A well of excitement grew inside him as his mind started to swell with ideas of how to use this ability to his advantage. Then his mind wandered to his other spells.

{Major image}, {Charm person}, {Clairvoyance}, {Major creation}, and {Polymorph} are just some of the abilities that floated around his mind.

The things he could do, the things he will do.

With this power, he could have as much money as he wanted.

Do whatever he wanted.

Have whoever he wanted.

Then in a moment of clarity, Alex, with a Ruthlessness not seen by anyone beyond a select few, crushed such thoughts with an impressive force of will.

"No." Snarled Alex.

He had worked hard to keep such thoughts out of his head. He wouldn't falter just because of this.

Letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding Alex refocused his mind. As he did so his left hand subconsciously clenched itself three times.

Noticing this the male chuckled to himself.

" Never thought those sessions would help with something like this."

Shaking his head Alex walked out of the alleyway and into the streets of Gotham city.

" It's time to get to work."
