9. Jessica

Every gaze at the lady, made her heartbeat increase. Jessica had no idea, why she would be jealous of a woman she just met.

Eunice walked closer to Jessica and was shocked when she saw the lady's face.

"You are one of us, ain't you?" Eunice questioned her. "You work for Kendrick." Eunice raised her brows. It was obvious, they could tell she was a vampire.

"I work for no one. Just a long-time friend of Jessica's." The lady smiled and stood on her feet.

"You are my friend? It means you know me?" Tears rolled down Jessica's eyes and she started walking closer to the woman.

"That necklace. How long have you had it?" The lady asked her.

Jessica's hands touched her necklace and her gaze was fixed at the lady's.

"I'm not telling you anything. Why do you want to know about such trivial things? Who are you?" She frowned.

"I see it's true, you are without your memories. When they come back, you will know who I am." The lady smiled. "Your necklace, it's quite peculiar. Do you know the meaning of the symbols?" The lady asked.

"Do you?" Jessica never imagined that her necklace meant anything. She was startled to see the woman who didn't look familiar, know so much about her. And hearing her talk about her memories, and how when she recalls her memories, she will know who she was, made Jessica suspects that the woman might be just the one she was looking for. But this she doubted when her gaze saw Kendrick's mark engraved in the woman's chest.

The lady covered herself up with her long leather jacket, but Jessica saw the mark she was trying to hide.

"Of course, you wouldn't know, you are part of Kendrick's people." Jessica smiled. "I don't let his men escape from my sight." Jessica snaked out her tongue and ran to where the woman where, but the woman ran to the terrace.

"I've been hearing all about you, and I'm impressed. A naive clueless girl now a terrifying being that when her name is heard fear grips the heart of the people around. I envied the old you." The lady jumped off the terrace.

Eunice and Jessica ran to the balcony and saw the woman standing by the roadside. She waved at them and crossed the road. It was crowded, they didn't see her again.

"What just happened? Did she die? Why did she jump off like that?" Mary was terrified and didn't understand anything that was happening.

"Yeah, she is dead. Now you are going to tell us how you knew that woman?" Eunice walked to Mary and pushed her to sit back on her chair.

"She is just a fan. She visited me some time ago, and she told me a popular kid's story, a myth rather, but she seemed to have more information than the rest of us. So all I did was used her story to write books. She always comes around and gives me details for my books." Mary was frightened.

"Even about the crimson family?" Eunice asked.

"Yes." Mary gulps her saliva.

"What's her name?" Jessica was curious.

"Helen. She said her name is Helen." Mary reached for the water on her desk and drank from it. She was panting hard.

"I don't know anything else. Please go away." She begged them.

"How many books have you written?" Eunice asked her.

"Four. You can find them on the shelf." Mary sneezed and suddenly passed out.

Jessica walked to the shelf and picked up a copy of the books she found there

"Hidden gate, Tales of the crimson family, Boneyard. She said four." Her gaze met Eunice's.

"She passed out, there is nothing we can do," Eunice said to her. "We need to leave here."

Jessica wasn't sure if it was right for her to leave, she wanted answers to everything. But there was nothing she could do. As she stood there staring at Mary. She wished Mary knew more.

They left the building straight to a coffee shop close by. Jessica was busy going through the books, to see if maybe, just maybe, there would be information about her, her past life. About where she could find the child. But there was nothing, nothing about her destiny was written there either. Once again she felt lost and trapped like how she had been feeling for the past sixteen centuries.

"Why does everything leads to a dead end?" Jessica asked Eunice.

"If she knew you, doesn't it mean that she must have known Richard?" Eunice asked Jessica. "You were with Richard for ten years and if this woman knew you, then Richard may know."

"But Richard has been telling me for a century that he doesn't know anything. He said when we met I was so broken-hearted and I didn't speak much about my past. He said he doesn't know anything Eunice." Jessica told Eunice. She believed Richard, unlike the other crimson members, she trusted Richard even with her life. Though she somehow felt uneasy around him at first when she woke up centuries back, all that died over the centuries. Now, every minute with him, she only felt the warmth he gives. She loved that she could rely on him. And never doubted anything he has ever said to her.

"I trust Richard as well. It's not as if I'm telling you that he is bad or something. I've known Richard longer than you think." Eunice sighed.

"Then you should also know that he would even die to protect me." Jessica raised her brow at Eunice, hoping that it would be the last time she ever doubted Richard.

"But what if, Richard isn't telling you everything that happened. What if, he is hiding some details about your past." Eunice asked Jessica, she saw the sudden change of her countenance and it made her frightened. She knew how dangerous Jessica's anger was.

"I'm just asking."

"You aren't, you are telling me that Richard must have been lying to me all these years. That's what you are saying, Eunice." Jessica yelled at Eunice.

"What if he is?" Eunice tells her again.

"Richard would never do such a thing. If you don't trust him, I do. Don't try to make me harbor doubts about him." Jessica warned Eunice.
