“Yep,” Rob said, laughing.
I liked Rob immediately. He seemed to have Cory’s sense of humour and didn’t take any shit from him without dishing it back. He was shorter and a lot less bulky than Cory; evidently not all rugby players were big.
Grace and I soon made friends, or at least I interpreted her giving me her teething ring to hold as a gesture of friendship.
“She likes you,” Rob said, glancing at me from the rear-view mirror. “Normally she doesn’t like strangers…although she likes Cory and they don’t come any stranger than him.”
Cory punched Rob lightly on the arm. “Piss off.”
I covered Grace’s ears. “Not in front of the baby.”
“Dah-dah-dah,” Grace said, slapping her hands on the arms of her baby seat. She then blew a raspberry, which I returned. We exchanged several more weird noises before pulling up at the rugby field.
