Class ends, and I'm still seated, waiting for the room to empty before I make my way forward to Mrs. B 's table.

I have to tell her I wasn't joking, I actually can't see.

I hope she gives me a note to escape P.E. because I just can't run without my contacts. I'll trip, or even worse..trip someone else.

I take a deep breath and let it out as I get up from my table and make my way through the empty aisle.

I can sense that this might not end well, but I got to hope it does. I'm a pretty good student, so I shouldn't get it bad for this.

As I reach the front, I can sense a change in her expression. She tilts her head slightly to get a good read on me (plus she's a few inches shorter than I am, so she can't help it).

"I was surprised when you mentioned that you can't see. Seeing that you've never made the excuse before "

"I-I'm sorry Mrs B, but I lost one of my contact lenses on my way to class today, I simply can't see well with just one in. Plus, I forgot to bring my actual glasses pair" (I forgot because this almost never happens, and if it did, I usually had a spare lens, but this WAS my spare !!!)

"Well, you seem alright. I don't want to test you, but you should probably go to the nurse's office. Maybe you can go home and get back in time for third period?"

"Sure, Mrs B! I'll do my best!" (This went way better than I expected. I expected some sort of interrogation by hand waving and finger counting, but I guess I'm lucky today).
