What is she doing here?

Georgina woke up late the next morning which was understandable because she worked extra late the previous day. Ella and Kevin returned later than expected last night and she had been stuck looking after their kids. Thankfully, Kyra was there to help her out.

The rays of the sun penetrated through the curtains hanging on the windows and into Georgina's eyes.

She squeezed her eyes tightly and rolled around the bed, unwilling to get up.

After a while, she pulled herself up from the bed. Beside her, Kyra laid down, snoring loudly. Georgina rubbed her eyes and yawned before climbing out of the bed. She slipped her feet into her flip flops and walked out of the room to the kitchen.

As she approached the kitchen, she heard the clanging and banging of pots. She hastened her steps and then stopped in her tracks when she saw Jane, her father's girlfriend, standing in the middle of the kitchen, her back facing her. "Jane?" Georgina called and Jane turned around.

"Oh, Gina, honey," Jane said with a wide smile. "Good morning. You look exhausted. Want some coffee?"

"Yes please," Georgina answered, yawning again. "I had no idea you spent the night," she said as Jane poured her a cup of coffee.

"Yes, you were home late last night and I didn't want your father to be all alone at home," Jane answered and Georgina smiled.

"Thanks Jane," she said, grabbing the coffee. "For the coffee and for staying last night."

Jane shrugged. "No big deal." Jane was a forty five year old woman with beautiful blonde hair and perfect face, too perfect for her age. She and Mark had met two years ago at a parent teacher's conference and had immediately hit it off. Jane had attended the conference because of her granddaughter who attended the school.

"How is Nettie?" Georgina asked. Nettie was Jane's granddaughter.

"She's fine. She's spending the weekend with her parents," Jane answered.

"Good morning," a groggy voice called from the doorway and when they turned, they saw Kyra standing, her face swollen from sleep. She was rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand.

"Morning Kyra. Want coffee?" Jane asked.

"Ugh, I hate coffee," Kyra answered with a groan. "I feel so exhausted."

"So do I," Georgina replied. "But hopefully, we get to rest at home today. Where is dad?" She asked Jane.

"Still sleeping."

Georgina grinned. "Late night, uhn?"

A blush bloomed on Jane's face as she cleared her throat. "Yeah, you could....um, say that."

Kyra reached it and slapped Georgina across her shoulder. "Stop making her uncomfortable."

"Screw you," Georgina shot at her with a frown. "Shouldn't you be on your way home? Your parents would be worried."

"Texted them last night," Kyra let out a yawn. "I think I'd stay for a few more hours; for breakfast at least."

"Alright. I'm going to take a bath." Gina dropped the cup on the table, turned around and walked out of the kitchen. She walked back to her bedroom but before moving to the bathroom, she picked up her phone. And was more than surprised to see a number of missed calls from Ella. "Oh, not again," she groaned. Today was supposed to be her free day. Why was she calling?

She dialed the number again and waited a beat for Ella to pick up. "Hello?"

"Oh, Gina, thank God you called back!" Ella's breathless voice came over the phone. "I need you like right now."

"Oh....I...I didn't know I'll be working today."

"No, no, you are not supposed to but I really need your assistance. Joe and Phyna are been..." A loud crash interrupted her and she sighed. "Well, there are basically destroying everything in my house and I have no idea how to handle them. Please, please come over."

They are your kids for goodness sake. How can you not know how to handle your own kids?

"I don't know Ella. I kind of already have a busy schedule today and....."

"I'll double your pay," she offered.

She hesitated. Ugh, damn her and her need to make more money. "Fine, I'm on my way," she agreed and hung up.

~~~~~~~~
About forty five minutes later, Georgina arrived in front of Ella's doorsteps. Mark, Jane and Kyla had protested at her decision to work but she had no choice. She had already agreed to it and besides, she needed the money.
So, she stood in front of Ella's house, on the day she was supposed to be taking a break, and knocked on the door.
There was no reply at first.
Then, she knocked again.
No reply.
As she raised her fist to knock again, the door was thrown open by a man who turned out to be....
The freaking Adrian Kings!
Just when Georgina was prepared to scream her lungs out in shock and maybe, a tiny bit of excitement, Adrian said, in a cold, icy tone that makes her flinch, "How the hell did you find me?!"
Okay, screeeechhhh.
What??
What the hell is it talking about?
Her initial excitement turned to confusion. "Uhn?"
"How did you find me?" He snapped, his eyes blazing with fury. "Did my mum send you here? I knew she was going to pull a stunt like this," he fumed.
Gina felt like she could physically feel the smoke coming out of his ears. She could feel the fury emanating from him. "I don't..... don't....get you...." Confusion was an understatement as to what she was currently feeling.
"Adrian, please leave the door," a tired voice that Gina recognized to be Ella's came from behind the door."
Adrian whirled around to face Ella. "Did you know that she was going to be here?!" He demanded in anger.
There was a glare on Ella's face but Georgina could see her lips twitching with amusement. "Yes, I knew Adrian. I told her to come. Why are you shouting?"
"You told her to come?!" He was visibly shaking with fury as he tightened his fists and glared at Ella. "I told you I don't want to see her here!" He growled at Ella. Then, turned around and stormed away.
Ella turned to Georgina. "Hey, Gina, thanks for coming."
"Yeah," Georgina finally found her voice. "You are welcome," she answered, walking in. As she entered, her eyes darted around for Adrian but it seemed he had gone up the stairs. "So, that's Adrian King," she said.
"Yes, I mentioned him yesterday, didn't I?"
"Yeah, but you didn't mention that he was a dick."
Ella laughed. "Oh, no, honey. You will soon understand," she said, still laughing.
A loud crash startled them and made Georgina nearly jump out of her skin.
Ella rubbed her forehead and sighed. "Joe and Phyna are at it again. They are in the kitchen," she said to Georgina, waving her hand dismissively. "Please get them to stop."
"I'm on it," Georgina replied, dropping her bag on the couch and heading straight for the kitchen. Her feet dragged to a stop as she stood in front of the kitchen, staring at the scene. The two kids, Joe and Phyna, were seated in the middle of the kitchen, flour all over their bodies and on the floor. Around them were clusters of pots and pans they had obviously pulled out of the cabinets. There were even pieces of broken glass on the floor.
"I'm sorry you are stuck with this mess," Ella's whispering voice said behind Georgina.
Georgina sucked in a breath and forced out a smile. "It's okay," she answered as she waded towards the kids in the kitchen. It wasn't like she was not getting paid. "Hey, Joe, Phyna," she crooned in a soft voice.
The two of them looked up at her, their faces lighting up in an adorable childish grin. "Hey, Aunt Gina!"
"Hey," Georgina replied in a soft voice. "Looks like we've made quite a number of mess here, haven't we?" They didn't answer, just simply grinned. "Okay, let's get inside and clean up now." She stretched out her hand for them to grab.
The two of them gave her determined looks – well, as determined as kids could get, and Phyna said, jutting her lips out stubbornly, "No."
"Okay, let me rephrase that. You will stand, walk into the bathroom to clean up and I'll call Aunt Kyra to bring you some ice cream."
Phyna tilted her head thoughtfully at first. She turned to Joe who nodded frantically with a small smile on his face. She turned back to Gina. "Okay."
"Great. First to finish cleaning up gets the largest amount of ice cream." Before she could finish her sentence, the two of them darted out of their sitting positions, dashed out of the kitchen and raced themselves towards the stairs, with Joe right in front of his sister.
Georgina and Ella walked quietly out of the kitchen, watching them run.
"How do you do it?" Ella wondered. "It seems like they just tend to do the opposite of anything I ask them to do." She sighed, rubbing her temple with her forehead. She slumped into the couch and let out a sigh again. "You can sit," she gestured to Georgina who immediately sat down.
"Where is Kevin?" Gina asked.
"Honestly, I don't know. He left the house this morning saying something about a work thing and whatever. All I know is that he isn't home. Honestly, my week has been stressful," She moaned. "With work and the kids, everything has been a huge mess."
Georgina had no idea what to say. She often found it hard to comfort people in stressful situations and whenever people started talking about their problems, she usually felt uncomfortable. "Sorry," she murmured, feeling awkward and unsure of herself.
"Oh, so you are getting all emotional and shit with her now?!" A furious voice snaps and when they turn their head, they see Adrian standing behind the couch, glaring down at them. "Really, Ella?"
The stressed look on Ella's face disappeared and was replaced with a small grin. "Adrian," she said mildly.
"Why would you invite her here?" He demanded. "You just defeated my whole purpose of coming here."
Georgina glanced at Adrian, confused, then she riveted her gaze to Ella. She looked at Adrian again who glared at her so hard that she quickly pulled her gaze away. "I….I….I don't understand."
"Adrian, why don't you stop throwing tantrums like a kid and sit and talk to her," Ella said, rising to her feet. "By the way, Gina, this is my cousin Adrian. Adrian, this is Joe and Phyna's babysitter, Georgina."
Gina gave Adrian a small wave. "Hi," she said, a bashful smile on her face.
Adrian stared at her, his face pulled together in a confused frown. "So, this is not Daphne?" he asked.
This time, Ella looked like she was about to burst into a full-blown laughter. "No, this is not Daphne. They just look so much alike. I mentioned her yesterday."
"Oh." Adrian said, still too shocked to form a coherent sentence. He kept looking at Georgina who now had a frown on her face.
"I don't look like Daphne Rodriguez," she protested. She was fed up of people saying that. Wherever she went, people gave her second looks, not because she was beautiful or sexy but because according to them, she looked so much like Daphne Rodriguez. Imagine living in the shadows of someone you've never even met.
"Honey, you may not like her but even you got to admit that the resemblance is uncanny," Ella said to her.
'Too uncanny,' Adrian thought. They looked so much alike and yet, he was unable to take his eyes off Georgina.
"Okay, I'm going to get some rest before those rascals come downstairs again. Georgina, thanks again," Ella said to them, as she headed to the stairs. "And Adrian, try not to bite her head off. She's not your fiancée you are running away from." Adrian gave her a scowl to which she just waved off dismissingly.
Once Ella left, an uncomfortable silence settled on them.
"So…." Georgina said. She was torn between 'fangirling' all over him or just ignoring him. At the end she went for a whole different approach. "So, you are running away from your fiancée?" she asked. Not fangirling and not ignoring him. Just asking...intrusive questions. Great method, Gina. That should work. Cue the eye roll.
Adrian scowled at her, somehow offended by her question. "I am not running away," he snapped. "I'm here to see my little cousins."
"That's not what Ella said," Gina answered with a smug smirk, causing Adrian to glare harder at her.
"I don't want to talk about it," he snapped.
"Don't you have an actual business to attend to though, instead of hiding from your girlfriend?" Georgina wondered. "Aren't you like one of the richest businessmen?"
"Again, not talking about it," he spat out.
"Testy," She muttered underneath her breath. "Anyway," she said out loud, "my friend Kyra will freak once she comes over and sees you here. She absolutely adores you."
At her last words, Adrian's tensed shoulders relax. He couldn't deal with intrusive questions and girls with such pretty face that they rattled his emotions. But, he could certainly deal with women who loved and obsessed over him like some sort of deity. "Is that so?" he asked, a cocky expression on his face.
"Yeah. She thinks you are some hot god."
"Well, she's not lying," he murmured in a deep voice and Georgina stared at him in disbelief. "But what do you think?"
She opened her mouth to talk but no words came out. She shut her mouth, tilting her head thoughtfully. "I don't know…..you are not that bad, though."
Adrian's jaw fell. "Not that bad? Not that bad?" How could she call him, 'not that bad'? Among all the words he had heard women use to describe him – sexy, hot, arrogant, proud, handsome, confident – that was the most hurtful.
"Yeah, I mean, you are fine but I've definitely seen better," Georgina answered with a shrug. 'Liar,' her mind screamed. Seen better? Yeah, sure. Even her ex-boyfriend wasn't as hot as Adrian King. Georgina was certain that Adrian was the most handsome man she had ever seen with legs that were long for days, jaws that looked sharper than knives and nose that could shame any surgical doctor. She had certainly not seen better but she wasn't about to add herself to the list of women who fed his already swollen ego.
"Seen better?" he scoffed. "I highly doubt that."
"Whatever." She shrugged.
The sounds of tiny footsteps running down the stairs interrupted them and they turned in the direction of Joe and Phyna.
"Look, Gina, we bathed!" Joe exclaimed as they came crashing on her. She was about to reply them but their attention quickly turned to Adrian. They let go of Gina and rushed to Adrian. "Uncle Adrian!"
Adrian quickly scooped them up and placed them on his knees, a broad smile on his face. "Hey Joe, Phyna." He glanced up at Gina with a smug smile on his face.
Georgina rolled her eyes and rose to her feet, whipping her phone out of her bag and scrolling through her contact list for Kyra's name. "I guess I owe them a bowl of ice-cream," She said, walking in the direction of the dining room.
"Make that three," Adrian called after her.
