Heart Eyes

Georgina's favorite thing to do after a long day at the restaurant was sit in the house with Kyra, binge watch shows and eat crazily. Today was even better because her father was spending the night in Jane's house. She was currently seated on the couch across the television, her legs curled up under her with a bowl of chips on her thighs.

The door to the house was pushed open and Kyra walked in. "Hey girl," she greeted as she walked over to the couch. She slumped beside Georgina and yawned loudly. "God, I'm tired."

"How was work?" Georgina asked, still looking at the television.

Beside her, Kyra was pulling off her shoes. "Stressful," she muttered. "My boss is a pain in the ass," she said.

"But he's hot," Georgina retorted.

Kyra glared at the side of Georgina's head. "No thank you." Kyra worked as a secretary in a multinational company and she always complained about her boss. She complained so much that Georgina already knew the next words she was going to say. "He is such a….."

"Piece of shit," they chorused together.

Georgina gave her a knowing look. "I know, Kyra. You say it everyday," she said, shaking her head.

Kyra continued glaring hard at her. "Whatever," she mumbled as she grabbed the bowl of chips, pulling it out of Georgina's hands. "What are we watching?" she asked, turning to the television. Her face twisted in disgust. "A soap opera?"

Georgina shrugged. "I find it while looking through the channels."

"Next time, continue looking," Kyra stated, as she grabbed the remote control. "Did you go to Ela's place today?" She asked and Georgina sighed, nodding her head. "How are Joe and Phyna?"

"They are good. I just think there's something wrong with Ella," Georgina said to Kyra. "I think something is going on and she isn't saying anything."

Kyra paused, dropping the remote and turning to Georgina. "Why would you say that?" she wondered.

Georgina tilted her head. "I honestly don't know. She always looks tired and stressed out. I'd say it's the kids but Joe and Phyna don't stress me out like that."

"I don't like Ella so much but I'm sure whatever she's going through, she can handle it," Kyra answered, turning back to the television. She picked up the remote control again. "And if you think something is wrong, you should ask her," she said, her eyes furrowing with concentration as she flipped through the channels.

"I can't. That's invasion of privacy," Georgina answered.

"By Cardi b?" Kyra asked absentmindedly, her focus still on the television.

Georgina stared at her for a while, then, she shook her head. "Whatever. Just pick a channel and let's watch."

"I don't know why you are talking to me about Ella anyway. You know I don't like her that much."

"Yeah, and she doesn't like you too." Ella and Kyra were like cats and dog, always throwing scathing looks and remarks at each other. "Besides, you were the one who asked about her."

"Yes but only because I wanted to know if you saw Adrian King again."

At the mention of his name, Georgina frowned. Adrian King. "No," she said in a kind to stilted tone. "No, I didn't see him. He doesn't live with Ella, Kyra."

"I know that. I was just hoping I left such a good impression on him that he couldn't sleep because he was thinking about me, so, he had to come back to see me," Kyra answered, turning to give Georgina a smirk.

"I wonder what movies you are currently watching."

Kyra shrugged.

"Besides, he's engaged," Georgina muttered, her mind going back to he article she saw the other day. "Trust me, he isn't thinking about you."

"Maybe he's thinking about you," Kyra muttered and Georgina's heart lurched at those words.

'You think so?' she desperately wanted to ask but instead, she scoffed, "Yeah right. How can he be thinking of me?" She was so damn sure he probably didn't even remember her and if he did, it was only because she looked so much like his beloved fiancée. But she, on the other hand, couldn't stop thinking about him and it was getting worse.

"Hey, look, my favorite show," Kyra suddenly exclaimed, dropping the remote.

Georgina glanced at the television. "The Susan Shaw show?" she asked with a scoff.

"Yes."

"So, we are watching an interview?"

"A TV show," Kyra corrected, relaxing back into the seat. "Now shussh, I love this commercial," She said to Georgina who scowled at her but said nothing, simply relaxing into the chair. Kyra sang along to the commercial song, her legs bouncing happily with a huge smile on her face.

Georgina watched her friend for a while and shook her head. "You are such a child."

"Again, hush."

The commercial ended and Kyra suddenly sat up straight paying extra attention to the television as the TV show came on.

"Welcome back to The Susan Shaw Show!" A middle aged woman exclaimed with so much enthusiasm that made Georgina cringe. There was a loud round of applause from the audience. Beside Georgina, Kyra clapped along enthusiastically. "Today, we have as our guests, Adrian King and his newly engaged fiancée, Daphne Rodriguez!"

Georgina sat up straight, her ears perking up. "Uhn?"

The applause was louder and deafening as the camera zoomed out, introducing Daphne and Adrian into the frame.

"Oh my God," Kyra squealed. "He is so hot."

Georgina's eyes remained glued to the television. Her eyes flickered from Adrian to Daphne and vice versa. As she looked at Daphne, she admitted reluctantly to herself that they did look alike, maybe not as much as people claimed but they really did had a resemblance. Her eyes flickered back to Adrian, dressed in a beautiful suit, his hair jelled to the back, accentuating his long, sharp jaw.

"It is so wonderful to have you both on my show," Susan Shaw intoned with an excited smile.

"We are excited to be here," Daphne answered with a wide smile and the audience erupted in another applause.

"And can I just say that you look so, so beautiful, Daphne. That dress is so lovely. Doesn't she look beautiful, Adrian?" Shaw asked with an enthusiasm that irritated Georgina.

Adrian smiled. "She really does look beautiful," he said, turning to smile at Daphne.

Georgina frowned as her eyes dropped to their intertwined hands. Why were they holding hands? Why was he smiling at her like she was his world? Just two days ago, he was angry simply because he thought Ella had ratted him out to Daphne and now, he was smiling at her like all was perfect in their world.

"Aww, they are so good together," Kyra cooed beside her.

Georgina rolled her eyes.

On the television, Susan Shaw was saying, "….it was such a shock to hear that you both had gotten engaged. There was never really any news of you two dating."

Adrian cleared his throat. "Yeah, we've been dating for about six months now," he said. "But we decided to keep things private until we got engaged."

"Awwn, that is so sweet. And can I just say that that's a gorgeous diamond ring, Daphne. Adrian, you have such impeccable taste," Susan Shaw said.

"Yeah. In women and jewelry," Adrian added with a grin. The audience laughed and Susan Shaw grinned back at him.

"Oh, I love you!" she exclaimed. After the excitement and laughter and applause died down, Susan said, "Although, we do have a bit of a problem," she said, reaching out to the table in between them and picking up a large framed picture of Daphne, looking around frantically with tears in her eyes.

Georgina sat up.

Kyra glanced at her. "Is there a problem?"

"Nope," she answered, not looking at her.

"This picture was taken right after your engagement," Susan said. "As you can see Daphne looks like she was crying and from what we heard, Adrian, you ditched her at your own party. What do you have to say about that?"

"Wow, so subtle," Georgina muttered sarcastically and Kyra snickered in reply.

"Oh, wow." Adrian laughed. "This is all just a huge misunderstanding," he said. "I had to leave because of a little bit of problem and Daphne was quite busy entertaining people. As you know, she's a really good hostess," he added, giving Daphne an adoring look that made Georgina gag so hard. "It was just a quick business issue I had to attend to."

Kyra leaned closer to Georgina. "He's lying right?"

"Oh, he is," Georgina answered, her jaw, ticking.

As Adrian continued talking and laughing and making heart eyes at Daphne, Georgina's irritation increased. And when it got to a point where she could no longer handle it, she reached out, picked up the remote and switched off the television.

"Hey! What did you do that for?!" Kyra protested.

Georgina rose to her feet. "I don't want to watch anymore!" she shouted and stalked out of the living room and to her room.

Kyra watched her leave, her mouth agape.

What the hell was wrong with her best friend?
