Let the humor emerge from the world itself, its context, characters, and internal logic, rather than relying so much on external references or breaking the fourth wall, as that can seriously damage immersion. Of course, if your goal is to write a crack fic, that’s also fine. You can write whatever you want and there's an audience for all sorts of things. But if you're aiming for a higher-quality work with broader appeal, getting rid of those elements is a must.
