If you're reading properly, then no, it wouldn't break immersion since it's pretty obvious, and it transitions properly. It would definitely be better formatted that way, but it's not necessary.
Being "deaf" is a pretty general term. Being deaf doesn't necessarily mean you hear nothing. There are varying levels of deafness just as there are varying levels for blindness. For all we know, he may have been able to hear enough to fix how he spoke at the very least. Even then, though, deaf people speak somewhat often even if it comes out strange.
