"You haven't even met me and you already want to change rooms?" An amused voice came from a large oaken desk in one corner of the room.
Adrian noticed another boy, who looked to be around his age, seated at the desk, pinning the pages of an open book down with his left hand. His hair was the colour of ash and was cut short at the back but he had his fringe kept long. His eyes were sharp and grey in colour and gazing at him reminded Adrian of the Viscount, because there was a similar air of refinement and prestige.
He knew that his forcefully-new roommate had to be someone important, but then again, a majority of the people attending this academy were bound to be so Adrian wasn't worried.
After all, the academy had made such an effort to ensure that status had no effect within its grounds and the hierarchy was based on an individual's ability only so even if he was a Viscount or Duke's son, he wouldn't be able to pressure him anyway.
"Ah sorry about that," Adrian murmured his regrets and his eyes flickered around the room and widened in surprise. It must've been enchanted with magic as there was no way that a room this big could fit into the dormitory hallways. It was easily the quadruple the size of his bedroom back home and was carefully separated into two identical sides, each with its own bed and desk and in the middle was a sparse amount of furniture, including a couch and a communal table.
Still trying to take in every piece of his new room, Adrian continued to mumble to his roommate who he was unintentionally ignoring, "It wasn't my intention to offend you. The situation just caught me a little off guard."
The other boy had fallen silent after noticing that Adrian wasn't sparing him a glance and had instead begun to explore the unoccupied area of the room, and pressed his lips together in interest.
It wasn't arrogance but due to a certain situation of his, when most people met him for the first time, they wouldn't dare to ignore him as blatantly as his new roommate did. Perhaps he'd disguised himself a little too well and plainly.. the other boy's eyes squinted slightly in interest... but still, it wasn't bad this way either. After all, he had decided to enter the academy as a normal student.
Meanwhile, Adrian was standing beside his giant new bed and poking it with his index finger. There were no curtains over the beds or anything to block out the view or noise of the other person sleeping opposite himself and Adrian frowned slightly. The bed was beautifully soft like it had been stuffed with feathers plucked from the softest bird and had its pale sheets sewn from the finest cotton. Still... he would've liked a bit more privacy.
It was only when he was done exploring his section of the dormitory did he remember the existence of his new roommate that wasn't Damien, and he turned around, rubbing his hand against the side of his face, as he became embarrassed after realizing how rude he must've appeared.
"Oh sorry, I forgot to introduce myself." Adrian walked over to the other boy at his desk and stretched out his hand, "My name's Adrian. It's nice to meet you."
As he said this, a cheerful smile spread across his delicate face and now that the other boy could him clearly, his grey eye's widened in surprise.
The person in front of him was wearing a black hood pulled over the majority of his long, platinum blonde hair that seemed as soft as silk as it trickled down his thin neck. His skin was pale and poreless and seemed inhumanely perfect, and his features were delicate and mesmerizing, especially his depthless blue eyes that were as clear as the ocean on a cloudless day. His red lips were thin but pretty and created a ravishing contrast with the rest of his white skin.
The boy in the chair blinked twice before assessing the person in front of him, almost refusing to believe his eyes. He'd seen many beautiful women, queens, and princesses alike who made men crumple like leaves at their feet due to their appearance.
But in comparison to Adrian, they were all cabbages.
The boy didn't know how it was possible for such a faultless person to exist, and he wasn't even exaggerating. He forcefully tore his eyes away from his new roommate, lest he becomes like a sailor lulled to a siren's song, and swallowed hard as he stared at the wall behind him.
These next few years..... could be difficult.
They would definitely be a test of his patience and self-control.
"Adrian is it?" The other boy slowly meet his eyes again and took a deep breath in. He had been trained to control his emotions since he was old enough to talk and appear in public, so hence no matter what kinds of thoughts he was thinking it would never show on his face, not even as he shook the delicate hand that was outstretched towards him and noticed that Adrian hands were cool and refreshingly pleasant.
He had always been fond of pretty things. The more rare and eye-catching it looked, the more it captured his attention and maybe it was his genes but he had always been highly possessive of such items, although for now he would have to swallow that urge.
"My name's Callan Reevit." Adrian watched as the boy's smile was reflected in his eyes and seemed genuine and he felt a wave of relief wash over him.
His new roommate seemed like a nice and patient person and he was sure that they could get along, especially since Callan didn't mention anything about his family which meant that he either didn't care about things like that or wasn't from a particularly high status either.
Callan smiled back at him, "So why were you that against having a roommate in the first place and how can I change your mind?"
His words hit Adrian hard and the smile on his face briefly faltered as a red flush awakened in his embarrassed cheeks as he snatched his hand back.
'How cute...' Callan couldn't help but think as he watched the Adrian fluster as he tried to think of the right way to phrase his intentions.
It was true that Adrian didn't know what to say. After all, what could he possibly tell him? That he was a mermaid and that being alone or with Damien would be easier than being with someone he had to constantly hide this from nearly 24/7?
Adrian almost let out a groan of pain as he imagined how stiff his tail was going to get from having to be constantly transformed into legs. He was going to shrivel up like dried fish!
But of course, he couldn't complain about all this to Callan.
"I'm not good with other people." Adrian admitted sullenly after a while, "I'm sure you don't but sometimes in the street because of the way I look, some people tend to have bad intentions about me if you know what I mean."
This statement wasn't a complete lie. After all, ever since he was young, Adrian rarely left his parent's estate as he always ended up attracting unnecessary attention and had even been almost kidnapped a few traumatic times before.
It was because of this that he developed the habit of wearing a hood and mask whenever he was around strangers. The dormitory supervisor had made him take off his mask so she could check his identity but he was still wearing his hood.
'I wouldn't be too quick to assume that I don't have bad intentions.' Callan thought to himself as he heard Adrian's explanation, although he could understand where he was coming from.
That face certainly was bound to attract a lot of attention, so in a way, it was both a blessing and a curse.
"That makes sense." Callan nodded his head, "So what's your element?"
Callan knew that with his appearance, the boy couldn't be someone simple. He hadn't mentioned his last name which made him wonder if just like him, Adrian was also attending here under an alias. He was bound to be strong, perhaps even the second or third strongest in the class if he was placed in the S-class along with him and even in the same room. Perhaps he wasn't even human... with that level of beauty, he could've even belonged to the fox clan, who were renowned for their seductive beauty.
But not only that, Callan wanted to ask more questions and unravel his secrets until he knew everything about him.
It was rare for someone from either gender to capture his attention so much and the longer he stared at that blushing pale face and innocently embarrassed smile, Callan felt himself become more and more interested in his pretty little roommate.
