I felt overwhelmingly cross as I stormed into the hospital room with Minhyun close on my tail. Only yesterday had I had spoken with Hojeong during his session about putting too much stress on his body, and today he collapsed?! To say that I was cross may have been an understatement; I was livid. The rest of the band was already here, but as soon as they saw me and the lethal expression I was wearing, the eldest quickly made an excuse for everyone to leave.
“Guys, I think we should go get food from the cafeteria or something. Let us give Hojeong-ah and Melody-nim the room,” Jin-hyuk quickly spit out before ushering everyone out of the room, closing the door behind himself.
Hojeong was lying down, and although he looked exhausted, he looked just as scared as he stared at me. I huffed as I uncrossed my arms, grabbing a chair with an iron grip. I dragged the chair over to his beside and grumpily sat down. I was staring back at him, my eyes like piercing daggers, impatiently tapping my foot.
“So,” I began with a very unprofessional snotty attitude, “Do you want to tell me why Jin-hyuk found you unconscious on the floor?”
“I swear it is not what it looks like, Doc,” Hojeong tried explaining.
Bullshit!
“Oh, really? So, you expect me to believe that you just fainted out of the blue for no apparent reason, is that it?” I narrowed my eyes.
“Well, when you put it like that...”
“Go on. You have my full attention,” I added as I leaned back in the chair, crossing my arms and legs.
“Well, I... I was just...” His voice trailed off again, most likely realizing that there was no way to talk himself out of this one. “Okay, fine. I stayed out all last night at the company building, practicing. I never ate the meals you told me to eat, and I am slightly dehydrated. All the built-up strain on my body over the last week just crashed down on me all at once today. I know I should have listened, but I wanted to make sure that I was getting everything done right.”
“Hojeong-ssi, you know damn well what your limits are. So, how could you be so reckless and risk your health like that? The next time I tell you not to do something, you better damn well listen. You got that?”
“Yeah, I got it...” He pouted as I made my point clear.
I let out a deep sigh of frustration as I ran a hand loosely through my hair. Then, without thinking, I mumbled the first thing that came to mind. “I did not sign up for this shit...”
I think I may have been overreacting, but then again, was I really? One’s health should always be prioritized above all else. Still, I should not act so unprofessionally. However, it seems an outburst here, and there is needed in order to get the point across.
Hojeong was looking down at his lap, clearly upset that he got yelled at, and I considered apologizing, but it just did not feel like that would get me anywhere. So, I stayed quiet after that. I adjusted my arms as I leaned back further in my chair. The room was silent for a bit longer before we heard someone speak up from the doorway with a soft knock.
“Is everything all right in here?” Namki asked as he strolled into the room with one hand in a pocket, the other closing the door behind himself.
“Hey, Namki-ah,” Hojeong started as he looked up at his friend, “Yeah, everything is... just fine.”
Namki arched an eyebrow, seemingly doubtful. “Really? Why the long face then?”
“It’s nothing. Don’t even worry about it.” Hojeong tried to shrug off.
I bit the inside of my cheek in annoyance. Namki must have noticed because he pulled up a chair next to me while looking between Hojeong and me.
“So, what has got you all wrapped up in a foul mood, Doc?” Namki suddenly asked me.
“Huh? Me?” I pointed to myself in surprise. Then I pointed toward Hojeong, “Are you really going to tell me that you think that nothing is wrong with him? I do not know if you can tell or not, but I am pretty ticked off. This guy really had the balls to do exactly what I told him not to do, and now here we are in the hospital.”
Namki crossed his legs before he tilted his head to the side. “I can see you are upset, and I can see why you are upset. I’m just not sure how to approach it.”
“Oh, is that so?” I cracked my head to the side with a snarky reply. “How about making sure this idiot stops overdoing it?”
“IDIOT?!” Hojeong shouted in protest, “How am I an idiot?!”
“Only an idiot doesn’t listen to his Doctor!” I raised my voice as it trembled in anger.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. I turned my head and stood up when I saw the hospital Doctor opening the door before closing it behind him. He had a clipboard in his left hand and a pen in the other.
“I apologize. Am I interrupting anything?” The Doctor calmly asked.
I shook my head, taking in a steady breath to help calm myself down. Finally, the Doctor nodded and approached the right side of Hojeong’s hospital bed.
“So, Mr. Park, I have your test results back from the lab.”
Namki and I both looked at each other before looking at the Doctor before asking the same question in unison, “Test results?”
