You Started It First

People would say mermaids are myths. Some would say, they don’t exist, some would say they’re just one’s imagination that was put to paper for money and fame, some would rather say they do exist like the dragons, dinosaur, Tyrannosaurus and triceratops but can not be seen with the ordinary eyes. Some would say they’re rumors and fairytales because they can not be snapped by phones or mobile devices, rather. But none of these they said matched with what the world’s wealthiest eligible bachelor, Justin Chadwick knew. Though, he must have seen them couple of times in the movies, heard about them in books, folktales and all of that. But it became a reality to him since he was eighteen and ever since then, he got struck with the trauma. He’d think that it was as a result of his excess overthinking or too many hallucinations that led to his first revelation of half human and fish creature. But what happens when he met the aqua feminine creature that he usually sees in his dreams now in reality?

Priyanka Abhishek, a twenty three year old geography student in Los Angeles, university was born in Delhi, India and brought up in Los Angeles, California. She hailed from the decent of India but for now her and her family are based in Los Angeles because they want to keep close eye on her as she studies here.

She's from the family of five. Two siblings, a brother, Purab Abhishek and a sister, Mitali Abhishek. Though there are half siblings but they still love her like they're blood relations. Where Purab is seven years older than her, Mitali is seven months older than her. Though Mitali is done with college now, a certified journalist in Delhi and Purab is managing one of his father's companies in Mumbai.

Priyanka is in her final year in college and would be graduating any moment from now. Her foster father, Rao Abhishek is the senator of Mumbai, India. And her foster mother, Urumi Abhishek, a retired banker.

When Priyanka was just a newborn baby, she was found in a basket at the doorstep of the Abhishek mansion. One of the cleaners heard the sound of a baby wailing at the corridor of the house so she decided to go see what it was. Only to discover that a baby was wrapped in a lemon green blanket in the basket.

She gracefully took it in to the master's wife. Back then, Mitali was just seven months old and Purab was seven years old. Urumi's heart instantly melted at the sight of the tiny baby.

No letter or note tag along the baby not even a t-shirt or a dress or even clothes. Urumi couldn't stand the baby tears for a minute. She ordered the maidens to prepare few of Mitali's dress for the baby and also prepare baby food and a warm bath for the baby.

Whenever baby Priyanka saw water, she's always overwhelmed, excited and super happy. She prefer to soak herself in the bathtub than to eat food or drink water. The whole family looked at it as a normal thing. Gradually as time goes on, they discovered a Blue Aphrodite elite wristband on her wrist when she turned ten. Though, it has been there but no one could remove it. They battled hard to get it off not even a knife or scissors could cut it off.

But one faithful day, Mitali misplaced her hairbrush and she needed one so urgently that she went into priyanka's room without knocking. She got it and was supposed to leave but something caught her attention off guard. Her half sister singing from the bathroom. She went there to peek through the little open space by the door and what she saw caused the shock of her life.

She invited the others when her phone couldn't snap or record it. The others were frozen. They've never seen such a thing in reality. And ever since that day, they began to fear the little girl.

"Welcome, miss." A middle aged man, Rashid, the butler helped her with her backpack.

Here in the Abhishek mansion, they only speak Hindu. That is one reason why they imported indian staffs to work in their home here in Los Angeles.  From the guards at the gate, bodyguards, baker, chef, cleaners, housekeeper, maids, butler and gardeners, they're all descents of India.

But that doesn't clarify them from speaking English sometimes. They do speak English but only if there's a foreigner in their home or in their midst.

"Miss, what happened to you?" Rashid pointed at the plaster on her head.

That was when Priyanka recalled the accident from this morning. "Oh," She touched it. "I fell on my way to class." She had to lie or else ...

"Honey, you're back so early." Urumi strode down the stairs, looking so bright in her Sari outfit. "How was class today?"

"Very fine, mother." She went up to hug her.

"What is this? Did you fall again?" Urumi knows her as a clumsy girl. "Tell me you didn't miss your step again." She's sounding worried.

She pouted her lips, pretending to be babyish. Just then, Rao strode in, holding a news magazine in his hand. "My dear, what is this am seeing?" He held her face in his palms, "Why didn't you call me when the accident happened?"

"Accident?" Urumi's eyes went from Rao to Priyanka. "Sweetie, you had an accident and didn't tell us."

Priyanka's eyes shook in shock. She began to wonder how her foster parents found out about it but she stopped guessing when her eyes flicked on the news magazine on the stool. At the top of it was crest 'Son of the president and senator of Mumbai's daughter in an accident clash."  With a photo of the boy carrying her in his arms.

Priyanka faced her father with rage, "Dad, who posted this?"

Rao shrugged, sitting comfortably on the armchair. "How the news was escalated doesn't matter. I told you to wait for my chauffeur to drop you off but you acted stubborn because of your morning exams. Now, look what it has gotten you into. Anyway, I've gotten you a power bike since you prefer to go on a free ride alone."

"A power bike?" She beamed, happily and ran to hug him. "You're the world's best dad!"

"Okay, okay, easy now." He patted her back.

"Go up and freshen up. I asked vedica to make you your favorite."

"Ah, Samosa and Dal soup?" Her eyes lit up as she gasped.

Urumi nodded, "Hurry so it doesn't get cold. And please be careful so you don't bang your head on something." She added when Priyanka danced up the stairs like a five year old kid.

Dinner at 7pm.... White house.

"Where you blind? Did you know that our reputation could have been ruined by now if I hadn't contacted the media and press to erase the news?"

"Honey, chill. You're putting more pressure on our son." Justin's mother, Adela, soothe his father, Ben, when he was so furious about the incident.

Justin's eyes traveled deadly towards his sister. He believed no one has a big mouth in the family except his sister who is a tattletale.

Francesca shrugged, "I swear, I didn't say a thing to them."

"Then how the hell did they found out?" His teeth gritted.

"The air is a global network of carrying information, what did you expect?" Ben saved his daughter.

"Have you gone to see her yet?" Adela asked.

Justin dropped his fork on his plate, trying to keep his cool. "They said she had left when I got there." He lied. He never went to check on her because of his too much pride.

Adela looked at her husband, "Honey, I think we should pay her family a visit and apologize for our son's mistake."

Ben was agreeing to his wife's suggestion until Justin went against it. "I…I already tried fishing out her credentials and address. Unfortunately, the hospital said she didn't drop a thing about herself." He lied.

Actually, he doesn't want his family to have a thing to do with the girl's family or the girl either. Especially his mother who would do anything to find him a woman in his life. He is thirty and still not ready to settle down.

"But there should be a way we can—"

"There's no fucking way, mom." He slammed the table and everyone jolted. "Now, if you don't mind, let us enjoy our dinner in peace."

Ben stare at him intently, "How sure are you that she's fine?"

Getting frustrated already, Justin massaged his temples. "Dad, I already told you. The accident wasn't severe. It was a minor issue that has been solved already, why can't you understand?"

"Okay," Ben shrugged, picking up his fork. "I'll pretend like I believe you."

"So, big brother…" Francesca rubbed her hand, grinning. "Did you manage to get her number from the receptionist?" When Justin eyed her, gravely, she buried her head in her plate. "Oh, I'll just eat my food."
