World War Nether (Midnights)

Walter, a young teen, relocated to Europe with family. Just under a year in the UK with his new girlfriend, Nicole, things go relatively smoothly until the course of their lives completely changed in a direction no one saw coming. They wake up in a mythological nightmare, saturated with mystery on every side. It was a place that was completely infested with every type of mythological beast, a place full of magic, a place full of imposters, a place without sun or moonlight, a place ravaged by an ongoing war, and no one was who they claimed to be. Walter gets caught up in the heat of the conflict, and somehow, HE IS THE CAUSE OF THE WAR THAT BEGAN 7 YEARS BEFORE HIS ARRIVAL. “How could this be? Who am I? Why is everyone after me?” Walter wondered, as he was being tossed around by different groups that all struggled to keep him in their custody. In less than a week of his arrival, he becomes the most wanted man in the whole dimension. Wanted by man, spirit and beast. Walter began considering what path to follow as those words, ‘The meaning of life is that it stops, and we only understand death after it has placed its hands on a loved one.’ rang through Walter's head. “Can I really get a second chance to relive?” At the end of his rope, Walter comes to the conclusion that it is man's innate nature to be evil, seeing that even in death, humans are still at war. But in the face of despair, Walter finds a reason to fight back!

A nuclear bomb

The next day:

"That's not how I taught you. You're meant to hit harder, jump higher. Damn it Walter, fight back!" Adeola yelled in frustration.

"It's hard to hit something that's bigger and stronger than you, you know?"

"Stop with the excuses, just fight back!"

"I'm trying!" Walter said as he tried to hit the creature he trained with.

"I don't know where they got this creature from" he said to himself as he struggled to resist the creature from pulling him out of the circle where they fought. It was a massive, cat-like creature that stood on 2 legs and had four arms. The creature had no hair which revealed its pale looking skin, that had lots of scars and was infested with ticks. As it stood on its legs, its height towered over Walter, and its wide, scary eyes never seemed to blink or remove its gaze from Walter. Charging at Walter with superhuman speed, it only seemed to use human-like fighting methods such as Jiu Jitsu to fight, and didn't use its claws or jaws.

After Walter broke its grasp on him, he quickly tried to deliver a kick onto it, but with unreal athleticism, it jumped with one hop over Walter, landing behind him, and before Walter could turn, delivered a kick onto Walter's back, sending him flying out of the circle.

"Damn it Walter! You've been given fighting lessons for over a week now. What's wrong with you?" Adeola yelled after his defeat, yet again.

"Look, I'm sorry. It's hard to fight a freakish beast without any weapons."

"Well, it isn't using weapons either."

"That freak is a 7 footer. What am I supposed to do?"

"Ugh! If you keep whining like this, you'll never improve."

"Why am I even undergoing this stupid training? I hate this crap."

"You'll need to learn how to defend yourself sooner or later. Come, try again, and remember if you can't beat someone, it's okay to play dirty. There are no rules in fighting for your life."

"Nah, I'm done for today. By the way, when am I going to get my weapons?" Walter said, dusting himself up from the ground.

"Let's see if you can get it today. Follow me."

"Is it the Queen to decide that too?"

"No, there's a chamber that we can pick your weapons from. It's called the gift house. And since one of your eyes is completely blue, we should be able to get you one."

" I see," Walter responded.

What type of weapon can I choose today he wondered as they walked through the forest.

A few minutes into their walk, he asked, "So…have you ever been in a relationship?"

"You mean like a boyfriend kind of relationship?"

"Yes, something like that."

"Really? What was it like?"

"It was short."

"What happened?"

"Well, it was very one-sided, and I felt like a burden to him."

"Didn't you try talking to him about it?"

"I did, on multiple occasions. But it was almost like he wasn't listening to me."

"So how did it end?"

"I stopped trying to reach out, and truly, I never heard from him again."

"Oh…that's really sad."

"Where did you meet him?"

"We met here, in the underworld."

"Oh wow…Wait, how were you reaching out to him?"

"Okay okay you've caught me. I've never had one."

"What? You were lying?"

"I was joking, Walter."

"Yeah, but it was also a lie…that was really smooth. I would've never known you were lying."

"You would, eventually I mean."

"Yeah, but there was no doubt in my mind that you could've been lying. It really was smooth…I wonder how many more lies you've told me that I didn't even think would be lies."

"Not many actually, we're here." she said, pointing over to an abandoned building.

"That looks empty though."

"It is empty, but when you enter, it'll have what you need. Come help me push this door open."

The building was an old abandoned building that had plants covering its roof and walls. It looked like it had been deserted for years due to the very prominent cracks and leaks.

The door was tall and stoned, and required a lot of force to open it. Walter and Adeola pushed the door very tediously and as it opened, it made scratching noises as it scraped the ground. After a few minutes of pushing, it opened.

"There's nothing here." Walter complained.

"Just enter and wait." she replied, "I can't enter with you. It's a decision you'll need to make on your own."

"Okay okay, I get it." Walter said, entering inside the building with his suspicions.

On taking a few steps into the building, he noticed the environment inside the room was changed. It suddenly was dark everywhere with the only illumination being a small golden stone that stayed afloat at the center of the room. He walked towards it, and grabbed onto it. On grabbing it, the room was transformed back to its normal structure.

"that was weird." He said, before opening his palm, but the stone wasn't there any longer, only a dark diamond shaped birthmark in the center of his palm.

He turned and walked out of the building.

"So, who did you battle? And where's your weapon? It took you 2 hours so it must've been intense." Adeola asked as Walter walked out.

"I spent 2 hours?"

"2 hours or more. Anyways, where's the weapon?"

He walked closer to her and showed her his palm.

"What the…it gave you a birthmark?"

"Yes, and that was it."

"That's very weird, truly. Perhaps you're not yet fully adapted for a soul bound weapon."

"We've wasted enough time here. Let's get back to training...Are you even listening to me?" Adeola said to Walter who was fully concentrating on his palm.

"Yeah…you're right, I'm a brat." he responded.

"That's not even what I…you know what? Let's get going." she said, dragging him by his other hand while he still stared at his new birthmark.

"Is it weird that the more I stare at it, it gets increasingly itchy?" Walter asked, " I want to scratch it."

"Lord knows what you touched in there. Knowing you, you probably touched something you weren't supposed to. Maybe a roach or something. Wait here, there's a river over there, let me get you some water." She said, walking a few steps away when she turned to him and said, "Do not scratch i-."

Right before completing her statement, she found Walter already scratching it. Right then, a massive whirlwind emitted from him, throwing her far, far into the river just before Walter exploded. The explosion was massive that the whole village where they stayed kept on trembling for almost 10 minutes nonstop. The explosion ravaged all the trees that surrounded him, completely devouring everything in the way, and more shockingly, the explosion reached a height of over 5 kilometers in the air, visible for everyone in the underworld to see, regardless of the camouflage as it disrupted the entire atmosphere.
