Witchy Woes

My death was very underwhelming. Granted, it was my fault but fate had other plans. Now I live in a world where immortal blood suckers chase after young women and witches are the most self righteous bunch to walk the earth. Good thing I’m going to be the top witch… …or Warlock or whatever. I’m not crazy.

Chapter 10

-[Elena]-

"Have you gotten Bonnie on the phone?" Stefan asked her, pacing back and forth in the Salvatore Boarding House.

She could only shake her head in denial. "I sent her a text and I've tried calling but she's not answering."

Bonnie had barely responded to her since the whole tomb incident. Even after she texted her about the tomb spell failing, she didn't get a response back.

She just didn't want her to come back and suddenly find out that the spell failed and the vampires were loose. Stefan said that he and Nathan spent last night hunting them down.

She still didn't know how to react to the fact that her new classmate was a witch. He even seems more powerful than Bonnie. The fact that he could bring the dead back to life and Bonnie couldn't was enough proof.

She couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if he tried to open the tomb instead of Bonnie and her grams.

That did leave some questions, like if he was more powerful than her, why does he need Emily's Spellbook?

The muffled sound of Damon screaming brought her out of her thoughts and from the look on Stefan's face, it did the same to him.

She couldn't help but feel conflicted. She hates Damon for killing her birth mother but this…this was too much. They had to lock him in the cellar after Stefan caught him trying to kill himself with a stake.

"Well we have to do something. Every second we waste is one more second that he's in pain." Stefan said, taking a forced breath to calm himself down.

She resisted the urge to say that it was Damon's fault. If he hadn't killed Aimee, he wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

"How did he even know that Damon was the one that killed Aimee? It's not like he and Damon know each other, right?" She had to ask, it had been on her mind for a while.

Stefan shook his head. "I don't know but he knew we were vampires even before Damon antagonized him. According to him, it's part of the trade."

"But Bonnie is a witch and she didn't know at first." She tried to argue.

"No offense Elena but Nathan seems a lot more competent than Bonnie." As much as that stung to hear, there was nothing indicating otherwise. "He is very knowledgeable about a lot of things and he's not skittish when it comes to vampires." Stefan added.

"He needed your help to hunt all those vampires, didn't he? Maybe he has a limit." She said, trying to at least name one area he wasn't good at.

"He didn't." Stefan denied, confusing her. "He didn't need me at all. I could see it on his face, he was bored, Elena. I was mostly there for conversation."

She didn't know what to make of that. Is that what Bonnie would've been capable of if she started learning magic earlier?

-[Nathan]-

While Elena and Stefan are getting Bonnie to drag herself back to Mystic Falls, I have something more productive to do with my time.

Staking out the Lockwood mansion.

I've been watching the place all day just to make sure I don't mess this up. Tyler went out earlier with a large duffle so I can assume he's going for practice for one of the three sports he plays.

His father, Richard Lockwood, also left earlier. He's the mayor so he has things to do, one of which included managing a vampire hunting council.

Carol Lockwood, his mother, just couldn't take a break. I don't know what her job was before she became mayor but this woman just couldn't sit still. One minute she's sitting in her room and the next, she's in her husband's office boredly sifting through the many papers.

Having seen enough, I walked up to the door, knocking loudly. I looked down at the suit I'm wearing, making sure it's perfect.

The door opens up, revealing Carol who looked confused. "Richard? Why are you back so early? I thought you had a meeting to attend." She asked.

Biomancy is amazing for impersonation.

"The meeting is still on. I just had to pick up some papers I forgot." I said, the voice of Richard Lockwood leaving my throat.

"You didn't need to come all the way back. You could have just called me to bring them over." She said, stepping aside to let me in.

"I can't say I thought about that." I say as she closes the door.

With her back turned, I stretched my hand to her head. "Peels." I chanted, causing her to fall limply.

I quickly catch her before she can hit the ground. Delving into her mind, I can see that Richard isn't expected back until later in the evening. That works for me.

Hauling her upstairs, it took a while to find her bedroom but I did, tossing her on the bed and making it look like she simply fell asleep, which she actually did.

She may drink vervain but that has no effect on my brand of magic. It's not a big ordeal to make her forget answering the door.

With that done, I made my way to Richard's office. Upon entering I'm once again reminded that the Lockwoods are loaded.

The Salvatore Boarding house qualifies as a mansion and the Lockwoods have one too, I'm feeling a bit left out. Maybe I should get a mansion too.

My trust fund can easily handle it without making even a dent. Sometimes I forget that I'm actually rich. Why have I been walking to school like some pagan? First thing tomorrow, I'm buying a car.

Focusing on my objective, I pull the corner of the rug away, revealing the horror compartment in the floor. That comes open easily and I'm presented with a small safe.

"Nepo." I chant, the dial turning on its own before a click rang out. Who needs tools when you can cheat?

Opening the safe, I rummage through it a bit. It's filled with papers and other junk. Just as doubt began creeping into my mind, I felt a small box, pulling it out.

Peeling it open, I see the translucent milky colored gemstone inside. Quickly stashing the moonstone in my pocket, I put the box back in the safe. With another chant, the safe was locked once more and the compartment closed.

As I put the rug back in place, I smiled to myself. This was a very productive day. Now go get out of here before someone who actually lives here comes back.

A/N: In case you haven't noticed, I've been avoiding writing from Elena's point of view for a while due to my immense dislike of her character. I tried not to let my bias work against me there so let me know what you think.
