Kaos, Vasai, and Nolly showed up early for the arena scrimmage. There weren't a ton of scrimmages that actually happened in the arena, so Kaos knew that he had to participate in the ones that did every chance he got.
There were clusters of students in groups of threes, fours, and fives, which made Kaos a little less scared that they wouldn't have a full team.
"We just wait here, or you want me to go find somebody?" Vasai asked Kaos, raising an eyebrow.
"I don't know?" Kaos replied, craning his neck at the groups to look for any stray prospective student that they might be able to acquire as a teammate.
"They'll probably make an announcement or something." Nolly chimed in.
Kaos thought for a moment, "Yeah… I hope they do… but at the same time, I'd rather not risk it on the off chance that they don't. Besides, it'd probably be better to figure out team composition stuff ahead of time I think."
"How about that guy with the longbow?" Nolly asked, pointing to a student in cargo pants, and tank top with a large longbow strung on his back, alongside a quiver of arrows. He was standing in a circle with six other students which was much too large a number to be one team. "We have two short range fighters, and then you as a mid-range," she continued, pointing to Kaos's new magic crossbow, "but someone on long range might help us out quite a bit."
"Yeah, let's see if he's already got a team or if we can get him on ours." Kaos nodded, and began walking over with the other two in tow.
"Are you guys looking for another member?" called a taller student in the group. He was well built, and had a large claymore on his back.
"Yeah, who all here is up for grabs?" Kaos replied, knowing that they didn't particularly need another frontliner like that student.
"I mean you can take your pick from anybody in the circle, except those two who prefer to stick together." he said, pointing at two students who both had short swords and shields.
"Great!" Kaos smiled, "What's your name?" he asked the student with the longbow.
"I'm Gilt," he replied, sizing up Kaos and his crew, "I'm pretty good with the longbow, and my wish lets me briefly launch myself into the air, which helps with recon and taking pot shots at enemies"
"We need a long ranged person if you want to join the team?" Kaos offered.
"I mean I haven't gotten any other offers, so I'll take it I guess." Gilt responded a little sarcastically.
Kaos didn't particularly like Gilt's tone, but he figured some people were just rough around the edges. The world was usually a harsh and violent place, he thought, the life that he had lived so far was what the average person would consider unusually peaceful.
After talking briefly with some other members of the group, they headed over to the registration table with their new fourth member.
Looking around, Kaos realized that a good majority of the students here were people he thought he could easily take in a fight. Gilt took note of something in Kaos's facial expression and broke his train of thought.
"A bunch of wannabes huh?" he scoffed, side-eyeing Kaos.
"Something like that." Kaos said, shaking his head at the out of shape students who weren't taking this seriously in the slightest.
"Hey man, you never know." Vasai cut in, looking at all of the students in a manner that was a lot more favorable than Kaos and Gilt. "Like that Bon guy from combat class. He's probably here somewhere, and he's not the best, but he's definitely improved and you really never know till you fight 'em."
Kaos raised an eyebrow with a half smile at Vasai's optimistic viewing of seemingly everyone, "Let's hope he hasn't improved too much" he chuckled.
"What's our team composition gonna be then?" Gilt asked, looking at the various weapons of the team.
"Nolly and Vasai are our frontliners," Kaos replied, "I'm our shot caller and can flex between mid and short range, and I feel like you'll be our scout and long ranger."
"Okay…" Gilt said, thoughtfully, "But if we can get noticed by a Dek professor there's a chance we can get sponsored to enter some extra Dek competitions and get more points, but we'll need some flashy plays to do that, so we'll need someone to be our playmaker."
"That role will probably fluctuate based on tactics," Kaos replied, "but just based on skills and flashiness, Vasai will probably be our showstopper."
"Sounds like a fun title!" Vasai laughed, "I will do my best to 'stop all the shows'."
Kaos chuckled, but it was more a nervous chuckle than anything else, as they were currently nearing the front of the registration line. There were a lot of 'wannabes' here, but there were also a lot of students who looked like they knew what they were doing.
"Are any of you Dek students?" asked the woman at the registration table, snapping Kaos out of his ever-present daydreaming.
"No, are they allowed in this scrimmage?" Kaos asked, slightly worried.
"No." She replied, marking something down on a sheet of paper, "That's why I was asking. Team name?"
Kaos was caught off guard, and hadn't expected this question. The woman at the desk could see the gears in Kaos's head and clearly wasn't impressed.
"You can come back if you need to." She said, looking at the group behind them.
"Our team name is Showstopper." Gilt said, saving Kaos from his panicked state of searching for a team name.
"All members write your name and class here." the woman replied after scribbling down the team name.
"I got you." Gilt whispered, smirking towards Kaos, before signing the paper.
Kaos nodded in appreciation and signed the paper in turn.
"Alright, game time!" Kaos said, motioning for the rest of the group to head towards the entrance of the arena.
