Just a few months ago, Nancy swore to her old friends back in New York that she would never fall for a man again after what her last boyfriend did, breaking her heart into pieces.
She promised no boy would ever see her soft side or make her heart skip anymore, and she kept her word until the big incident that changed her life. She had met a lot of guys and had not felt a thing for them until she met Nolan.
Nancy could not figure out why she felt so drawn to him at first sight, how he had chosen to stay in her heart and not leave, and no matter how much she tried to not think about him, he was always there around the corner just like this night. Sitting with him and talking would be included in one of her best times in North Carolina.
She watched him get closer and slowly closed her eyes, waiting for his lips to touch hers with so much eagerness and rapid heartbeat.
"Nancy? Are you there?".
The sudden voice of Jada made Nancy open her eyes suddenly, she looked up and saw Jada staring down at her and Nolan.
Jada felt the intensity and wished she hadn't interrupted the kiss that was going to happen, she saw Nancy's disappointed eyes looking up at her and Nolan whose eyes were smiling at Jada.
"Hey Jada", Nolan said.
"Yes hey, Jada…" Nancy added, she pressed her lips together and took a glance at Nolan.
"I am sorry guys… I didn't know…", Jada said, chucking nervously and rubbing her palms together, "but sorry, can I borrow Nancy for a bit? I need her so bad like right now", Jada added.
"Oh of course", Nolan nervously said, he looked at Nancy who had also stared back at him. There was now a little awkwardness between them that they could not explain.
"I will see you later…", Nancy hurried up and smiled down at him before walking off with Jada.
Nolan watched them leave, still sitting on the stairs.
He exhaled deeply and ran his hand through his hair, he didn't know why he almost kissed her. But her perfect lips, the way she smiled so beautifully, and her pretty face. How can he not?
"She is driving me crazy", he muttered and looked up at the sky.
Shortly, Nancy and Jada walked out of the house using the front door.
"Why do you have to come when I was so close to kissing him? If only you come a few minutes later, I would have… oh my God", Nancy complained while folding her arms and staring at Jada who looked bothered.
"What?", she asked.
Jada sighed and paced back and forth.
"Beth, I just saw her get in someone's car and drove off with him... Who is the guy? She told me she was going to be back and now she is gone with him? Nancy", Jada worriedly said while biting her fingernails.
Nancy glanced around, "Did you ask her where she was going? Or did you call her? It might not be what you are thinking, Beth likes you, I don't think she would ever do that to you".
Jada didn't seem convinced by what her friend had said, she shook her head and narrowed her eyes.
"I can not believe she invited me to this hangout just to leave me here… she also kept staring at her phone while we were together bro…", Jada nagged.
"Do you trust her?" Nancy asked.
Jada knew the answer to Nancy's question, it was hard for her to fully believe she could trust Beth, she had a lot of girls and guys on her phone and she went to parties a lot.
She has never complained to Beth because she doesn't want to be that type of girl since the same things had happened in her last relationship and just talking about it ruined their connection, she loves Beth and does not want to ruin what they have.
"I don't know Nancy… I don't want to lose her", Nancy said in a soft voice.
"Hey… hey listen to me", Nancy said.
"She loves you and I know she has a reason for leaving so suddenly or staring at her phone, just try to call her or text her… it is going to be fine", Nancy promised.
Jada felt a bit of relief, she nodded and glanced around.
"Sorry for using my problem to disturb your connection", Jada said, her eyes suddenly lit up, and her lips widened. "I saw how y'all almost kissed oh my lord, wished I hadn't stepped in, the atmosphere was so hot! Damn girl you are bad".
Nancy laughed, she looked towards the house and saw Nolan's eyes on her, from the house through the window.
She smiled and looked away.
"He is making me so nervous, I don't even know how to act around him, my heart beats so fast and I just want to touch him, or lock him up in my basement so only myself can see him… he is so fine, I am gonna pass out just because of how pretty he is, it is crazy", Nancy excitedly said.
Jada paused and stared at her friend.
"Oh my God Nancy, I have never seen your eyes this lit up while talking to someone, you really like Nolan…", Jada said, she shrieked and held Nancy's hand.
"You like him so much", she added.
Nancy looked at her friend and then looked over at Nolan, he was drinking and laughing with his friend, even from afar his smile still looked so bright and beautiful, they were so contagious that Nancy immediately smiled and looked away.
"I… I think so Jada", She confessed.
Jada shrieked so loud, "You do!!!".
"Shhh don't let people hear you", Nancy said and hurriedly covered her friend's mouth to avoid words getting out since anyone could be listening.
"He just appears when I am not expecting him to, and his smile… brightens up my soul, I didn't know that could happen, just looking at his eyes heals the broken part of me I didn't think existed, and his presence completes me… I have this urge to always want to see him and be near him".
Nancy paused her lips and suddenly looked up at her friend.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! I don't think I like him, Jada… I… I THINK I LOVE HIM".
