WHISKER AWAY

It was just after 14h00 when Mia finished bathing. She wore her white shirt and blue jeans the weather was just perfect for her to go out with her friend.

Before leaving her room, she took a glance through her window and there he was, laying on the ground with headphones over his head

Heaving a sigh, Mia grabbed her phone and jogged downstairs.

" leaving already? " Monica said

" yes Mom, I'll meet Naomi at the subway " Mia replied

" alright, have fun " Monica said

Monica kissed her on the cheek.

She smiled and left the house, passing the new boy's home, she gazed at it for sometime.it's either she didn't notice or maybe she never paid too much on the house until now. The front door had a statue of a grey cat, Mia loved cats, but she didn't like this one. Something about it made her body shiver

The yard was dull, full of black roses and tulips, the only thing that caught her sight was the weird brown casket kinda thing leaning against the garden gate. A chilling wind blew past her scattering her hair all over her face she groaned and tied it up in a bun.

When she tossed her eyes on the garden gate, the brown casket was gone, and so was the new boy.

"How? I was certain I just saw him.'

She muttered to herself. thinking she was just daydreaming, she walked past the house heading to the subway

She met her friend, Naomi already waiting for her.

" you took your time cupcake, I waited for like 20 minutes " Naomi said yawning

" you'll survive " mia said and Naomi rolled her eyes.

" so, what has your boyfriend been doing lately? " Naomi mocked her. Of course she knew about the new boy nextdoor. Mia always talked about how strange and unpredictable he is Nevertheless, Naomi thinks he's just getting used to the neighborhood. Mia wasn't convinced, something IS weird about that boy, and she'll find out what it is sooner or later

" He's not my boyfriend " Mia said

" but you're always stalking him " Naomi said

" because I want to know something about him. " Mia said

" why don't you just talk to him then? " Naomi said

" no way... I'll seem noisy " She scoffed as they both entered the subway.

" I don't think he's a bad boy, although I wouldn't mind him being one. Why don't we just pay him a visit after we drop Sandy off " Naomi said

" no " Mia shaked her head

" why not? Aunt Nica will be at work right? " Naomi said

" that's not the deal " Mia said

" whatever it is, I say we go to him " Naomi said and Mia sighed.

After dropping Sandy off at the airport. Naomi and Mia took a subway back home.

By then, it was close to timing 8h00, which meant, Monica had already left for work

" I'm not sure about this Naomi" Mia said anxiously as they stood outside her neighbor's gate.

" come on, we're here, we can't just turn back now " Naomi said

" what if he doesn't like visitors? you already know he doesn't talk, what if he's a mute? I can't talk sigh language " Mia said

" stop overthinking Mia, I'm sure he's not like that " Mia said Naomi pushed the gate open and dragged Mia inside the yard.

" I don't like his house, it's giving me the creeps " Mia muttered under her breath Naomi chuckled. She stood at the doorstep and rang the intercom.

A minute later, the door creaked open. The new boy appeared at the entrance. He wore a black hoodie and black jeans. His hands were tucked in black gloves,

" hey, we're your neighbors...I'm Naomi, this is my best friend Mia " Naomi said

He nodded. Of course he knew them. He'd seen them a lot at school, almost everyone in that school knows about them. Isn't it much better if no one knows about you? He would think, when he sees them during lunchtime.

" we thought we'd drop by, mind if we come in? " Naomi said

The boy's eyes went to Mia. She was fiddling with her fingers. No doubt she was nervous.

He opened the door and Naomi got in, dragging Mia along. The door creaked close.

The house was just as lonely as Mia expected. It was a big dim hallway and up ahead was a staircase with numerous steps.

" I like your house" Naomi complimented as they walked down the hallway and up the stairs.

" Thanks " he simply said. Naomi grinned at Mia, and she rolled her eyes. Alright, he wasn't a mute.

" do you leave alone here? " Naomi asked again, looking at the sitting room with just a long couch and a rocking chair. A small TV was placed at the corner of the entire room. The floors made loud noises when they walked but the boy walked quietly.

" yes "

" hmm I think it's cool " Naomi said

" Naomi, can we leave now, I'm sure he has other things to be doing " Mia said

" I do "

" oh...I... " Naomi said

" I was about to eat dinner, you can join" he said. Naomi smiled and nudged Mia.
