3: The Pack Decides

I woke up to a throbbing headache, feeling my brain would burst out of its skull if I did nothing about it. Rays of sun had shunned meticulously on the bed I laid, and cast its luminous patterns on my skin. I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn't. It was a struggle, as the intensity of the sunlight on my tender eyes wouldn't let it. I knew I had covered it for some time.

I was perplexed to find myself dressed in a hospital gown, and my back, laying on the soft hospital bed. The cannula on my left hand and the drip on the right didn't give my feelings a soft landing, and all these added to my fears.

"You're finally awake." a lady said as she walked to me. She appeared in a pair of matching outfits and had some sort of white paper on her hair. I could easily tell she was a nurse.

"Why am I here?" My voice dry and husky. It was as if it had lost its potency due to the cold. I quickly cleared my throat, hoping to get it back, but to no avail.

"You're in the hospital, miss Adira." She replied, as she laid the tray in her hands to a table.

Ken walked into the ward afterwards, accompanied by the woman in her mid fifties. They displayed a smile which was too many for people that had wanted me dead a while ago. I gawked at them, while watching them as my fears pile up

"How are you my darling?" Ken asked cheerfully, further displaying his scattered dentition.

Ken was nothing short of good looking, he was what I would call an "average good-looking guy". I had fallen in love with watching Adam's apple throttle whenever he spoke. Well, not until I discovered he had a malicious motive towards me. He quickly stretched his smooth hands and tried to reach my forehead, but I knocked it off, causing them to hit away into the air.

"Don't touch me!" I shouted, my fist tightened with rage. I had injured myself when I knocked off his hands and it caused pains to arise from the hands that accommodated the drip.

"Why am I here?" I asked again. This time, pulling out the drip and cannula in my hands. I didn't pay attention to the pains, as all I wanted was to get home as quickly as possible. I tried jumping out of the bed, but realized they had cuffed my legs to the bed.

"You are one of us, my darling. We can't harm you. We brought you here to recover. You passed out last night." The woman replied with a reassuring smile, and a look determined to convince me.

She displayed a demeanor that could only come from a caring mother, but I was not buying that. I won't let them fool me twice.

"I am what?", I asked, confusion written all over my face.

"Yes my darling", she continued.

"I know everything is confusing right now, but trust me we're here to clear your doubts."

"What on earth are you talking about? I don't transform into a wolf!" I yelled out.

I was beginning to lose my patience, and it was justified, because it didn't make sense why some strange people would kidnap me and force a strange identity on me. Ken moved closer again, this time looking as pitiful as ever.

"You haven't started transforming because you're special Adira, you have a special fate we don't even have," he said, leaving me in confusion, but I knew I needed to play along if I ever wanted to escape alive. I had hoped to disappear into thin air once I regained my freedom.

"So, how did you find out about this?" I asked, sounding interested.

"Our Identity blade turned green on you Adira!, you're definitely one of us, just that you belong to a different pack."

She tried so hard to sound like she cared, but I could hear the evil in her voice, and the dark aura that emanated from her.

"We have sent word to your pack and they'll come for you in no distant time" She continued.

I adjusted myself, trying so hard to distract myself from the bandage on her leg. She had aged a bit, yet appeared so strong. I believed she commanded authority in the pack, and I wondered who she was.

"Ok fine, when are they coming?" Ken quickly reassured me that they would be here to pick me up soon. They were tense and paid attention to every question asked, or move I made.

I suspected they wouldn't want me to have a change of heart.

A lady came in and gave me a cup of tea and a sandwich for breakfast. I was famished.

I immediately remembered that I hadn't had anything since the day before. There was no way I could escape if I didn't eat, I thought. At least I needed some strength for that.

I was halfway into the meal when a perfectly built young man entered the ward. His most noticeable features were a 6.2 fit height and some bulging biceps. I got lost, in the gaze I fixed on him. I watched the breath-taking figure walk towards me. His blue eyes were charming, and the dimples that appeared when he greeted the nurses were captivating.

He walked towards us and greeted us. I could see his Adam's apple throttled as he made eye contact with me and that was the most charming thing I had ever seen.

"You must be Adira?" he asked, as he stretched his hands for a shake.

"Uhmm… I am", I replied casually, with my gaze fixed helplessly at him. I had lost total control over myself "I'm the Alpha of Cardias park" he continued. "Welcome to the family, my name is Ethan." He said while patting my hurting back. I knew no matter how many good-looking men walked in here, I would never buy their story, but no one said I can't daydream at least.

"Lady Amy," he moved closer to the woman in her mid fifties. This made me realize I hadn't known her name all these while. No one ever mentioned her name, they always worshiped her. The two moved to the corner of the room and spoke in a hushed voice. but there was no need to, I knew it was about me. After the conversation, he came to inform me of his intention of taking me to his house. He would take me to their meeting, which would take place in two days' time.

I didn't just feel sad about the news; I felt insulted. Their effrontery was getting overboard, and I swore to make sure I did anything against their wish. I requested for my phone and met sixty seven missed calls from Victoria. Of course, she was the only one I had.

I lost my parents to a plane crash at a tender age of six, and my aunt Helen who raised me lived in another city.

"Adira!!!, you scared the living hell out of me!" she shouted when I returned her call. I didn't want to give room for scolding, which she never hesitated to do, so I reassured her of my safety, even though I knew I was not close to being safe. They took the cuffs off my legs, and I dressed back in my half torn dress and left with Ethan.
