Showers from the Heavens

Rain dropped from the heavens. The light scattering echoed on the stone grounds the fluffy white clouds turning overcast with an ominous grey sheet in the sky. Charlotte wiped her chin from the rain droplets clinging onto her skin and followed the line of her slim jawline.

The harsh sound of thunder crashed down. The dark birds scattered overhead. The calling of the wind was sweet while the force was biting. Many questions were brimming in her mind that were left unanswered.

She drank in his form in front of her, having not seen him in a while. The rain fell upon him like everyone else, but he was a sight to behold. He was still as handsome as ever with bright eyes trying to catch her gaze. Charlotte darted her eyes down, and Vincent slid off his black suit jacket to wrap around her. Her shirt was thin and a pasty white that grew sheer with the water.

Her white undergarments stuck onto her chest, outlining every curve, and she turned her face away to try and hide her flustered expression. She didn't know why she called out for him, but in the end, it was the right call to do so. He was always there when she needed him.

"I haven't seen you in a bit," Charlotte broke the silence.

Vincent tightened his grip on her shoulders. "It is better for you to not get entangled in my world, Charlotte."

"I would rather not as well, but why are there so many vampires wherever I am? I promise I don't try to provoke the vampires."

"I would highly disagree since you love to approach them."

Charlotte shook her head adamantly. "I don't try to do it on purpose. They are always hurting people."

"Not all vampires are like that, Charlotte."

"Where are the nice vampires then?"

Vincent sighed. "Not feeding on people openly."

Charlotte tilted her head at him. "Vampires feed from humans regardless. Is that cruel or the way of nature?"

Vincent shook his head at her comment. "Humans don't remember if they get bitten. There is poison in our fangs to elicit that response. Some humans do remember which is something we cannot control. It is why vampires have the dark reputation from humans passing down stories."

Charlotte didn't want to press him. "That other vampire over there... Declan? Did he just break a code by feeding in openly?"

"He did which is why I'm going to have to take him in soon for a punishment."

"Will he get severely punished? Is there a huge civilization of vampires? Will he also turn into a vampire knight?" Charlotte blurted.

Vincent pushed his finger on her forehead. She rubbed the point where he pressed. "Stop asking questions, Charlotte. And for the record, it's cavaliers."

Charlotte shivered from her wet clothing. "You still didn't explain why I always find vampires."

"Every time I'm around you I've been careless and spreading my scent," Vincent answered.

Charlotte wrinkled her nose. "What do you mean? I don't smell of you."

Vincent walked closer until their chests were just a breath apart. "You do when we constantly touch."

Charlotte inhaled his spicy and masculine cologne and pushed out of his reach. She wrapped herself tighter with the jacket he gave her to conceal her traitorous body for wanting him while her mind screamed to get away.

Gathering her courage, she asked the question that was on her mind. "Okay. Last question, what did you do to Jacob?"

He pretended to think for a moment. Charlotte narrowed her eyes. "So you did have a connection to this."

Vincent scratched his cheek. "I got rid of him."

Her eyes widened as she shouted, "You killed him?"

Vincent laughed. "No, I didn't. I only offered him a deal that he could not refuse."

Charlotte pressed her lips together but didn't ask for further details. He was right about her asking too many questions. Despite her being curious, there was not much she could do with this information.

It would be safer for her to be ignorant. But there was another side that craved to understand what it was like being in Vincent's world.

Sighing, Charlotte opened up her arms and pouted her lips. "Sorry, but can you carry me back home?"

Vincent lifted her effortlessly into his arms, princess style.

"I lost my shoes," she said, as she wiggled her toes.

The soles of her feet were wrecked. She also had multiple scratches on her feet that were bleeding and would need to get disinfected the moment she got home. The sting of the scratches was coming back with the rain pouring down on the exposed flesh.

He rolled his eyes. "One day you yell at me to never see you again and the next you demand me to take you home."

"It's only because you insist on being in my life," Charlotte teased and then froze when she saw his stern face. "I'm joking. Thank you for taking me home. I really appreciate it."

Vincent started walking down the street without responding to her comment.
