Safe House Bound

Stone drove off after a long glance back, and Vincent gave him two flicks from his fingers to say that he got it for one last confirmation. Charlotte turned back to wait for Vincent apprehensively with the trees swaying with the breeze that was slightly lifting her hair off her shoulders.

It was a bright day, but it also had a somewhat tense day due to the nature of them still being chased. She didn't know what else Vincent was pausing for, but it seemed as though the guys were doing some kind of telepathic speaking. She had no idea, but it didn't take long until Vincent started walking off to the cabin.

Charlotte followed Vincent with his long strides over to the front door of the cabin, and she finally fell into step with him after she saw him inch away from slowing his pace so that she wouldn't have a hard time keeping up.

"I see that vamps cannot communicate telepathically," Charlotte said slowly.

Vincent smirked over at her. "That would make life so much more convenient."

Charlotte rolled her eyes. "What were you and Stone speaking about?"

He leaned down, and she met his gaze not bothering to pull back as she was sure he wanted her to do. "That's a great question, angel."

Vincent then pulled out his phone and scrolled for something that she couldn't see from her angle letting him keep his secrets knowing that she would try to wrangle it out of him later since she truly once again, had nothing to lose.

Charlotte turned back to look over her shoulder to see that Lucia was steps away looking down at the rocks with her mouth pursued as though the rocks were causing her trouble. Charlotte went over to her and shook her thin frame to try and bring some life back into Lucia's face which was starting to shut down.

Lucia cocked her head to the side. "What is it now?"

"It's so lovely here isn't it?"

"I would think that you're not one for small talk," Lucia said slowly.

"Ah, you are right in the context, but I'm trying my best here."

"No wonder it sounded so dull."

Charlotte rolled her eyes. "I'm sure it's the first time for you to see so many trees."

"It is," Lucia agreed after a moment. "It's the first time that I breathed such fresh air."

"It's not like this in the Centennial Center either despite all the wonders that the center may bring."

"I see," Lucia murmured. "I would think if I ventured out towards the center, I would stick out like a sore thumb."

"I highly doubt that," Charlotte said knowing the culture there was quite snobbish, so in reality, most people would be seen as a sore thumb due to their normal build. "You wouldn't be out of place in the sense that you're a visitor. I wouldn't want you to experience the high society life that is demanding in random ways."

"I would have to say the same," Lucia said as they reached the front door where Vincent was still tinkering on his phone. "I don't think I would be suited for such a glamorous life that one would kill for to be in a position like that. Being in a place where it is safe and comfortable would be a great lifestyle for me."

Charlotte peeked over at the complicated lock for the door and wondered how they were going to get in. At least, the house had lots of safe measures, so she couldn't complain.

Stone didn't give them a key of some sort, so she assumed that it would have to do with some kind of scanner from the camera that was peeking out of the little alcove that was building for it along with a finger and number pad.

Vincent glanced up from his phone and caught eyes with her to which she tilted her head to silently ask what was going on before he pressed his phone to one of the scanners which glowed green, and after a moment it clicked opened with the door gently swaying open a few inches at a time.

Charlotte blinked over at Vincent. "How did you open the door?"

He lifted up his phone. "Virtual key. Took a while to find it after sifting through some confidential files."

"Have you used this safe house before?" Lucia asked as she lightly inched her way past the doorway.

"I have not," Vincent answered. "This is the knowledge that a select few know, so it is safe enough from word of mouth."

Charlotte hummed. "Can we go inside now or are we just going to stand outside on the doorstep for the whole night?"

Lucia stepped inside. "I'll gladly go inside then. I'm going to claim the first best room."

Vincent extended his arm out in wave of great measure. "Be my guest."
