Chapter Sixty-Seven

When Jennifer came home she wasn't surprised to see that they weren't still in. But she was surprised to find a note. 

"Come over when yer ready. Jake's invited us over for a BBQ. Love xxx Molly." Jennifer put the groceries away, except for some ribs and a garlic bread she'd just bought, and made her way over. She too loved being greeted by the dogs first before Jake opened the door for her. 

"Welcome," he said as he let her step in. "Thank ye again, for givin' us a chance," he said with a grateful smile. Jennifer simply nodded, not sure where to start apologizing for not changing her mind sooner. "The others are out back already," Jake led the way out back now. His father had started the BBQ already and Molly and Beth had been getting plates and salads ready. She could hear them laughing before she saw them, which made her feel bad for making her sister miss out. 

"Beth?" Jennifer asked surprised when she recognized her, before Jake could warn her. Now she definitely knew they'd continued seeing each other and she wasn't sure how she felt that someone else had been helping the charade. 

"Yeah. Jennifer, this is my little sister Bethy," Jake introduced them properly as he led his sister closer to their guest, his hands on her shoulders as he towered over her. 

"Hi Jen, y'alright? Sorry... eh ye know," she said a little uncomfortable. Molly felt bad too, as she'd basically asked the younger girl to help lie for them. They awaited the reaction a little uneasily. 

"Yeah don't worry about it. I get it," Jennifer decided eventually. There was no point holding it against any of the youngsters, as it was her behavior that meant they'd felt the need to lie. "Thanks for invitin' me over Mr Rodgers," she turned to their host. 

"Duncan please," he said again, "and yer welcome." 

Jennifer had to admit by the end of the afternoon, that the whole family was really nice and that Molly fit in with them well. She was feeling a lot better about the situation by the second. Even if Jake did end up trying to hurt her sister, Duncan and Beth would stand up for her. The former had learned not to just stand by, and the latter had a lot of sway with her big brother. 

Perhaps they'd finally found their place. 

Molly had just worked her last shift at the café and she felt a little lost. She still didn't have anything else lined up so she did another round through town before heading home. 

She was just walking past the job agency when she noticed they were hanging up a new ad. She barely glanced at the job before rushing in. "Can I talk to ye about the ad in the window?" she asked, catching the surprised look on the agent's face. 

"Sure thing, didn't think anyone would see it that quick. Have a seat." 

The job was in the high school, as an office administrator with the possibility of doing the odd day training a week to become a TA, if she passed her 3 month probation. The school were desperate to have someone start before the students came back in the middle of September, so whoever they hired could be trained properly. It also meant she could come by for an interview tomorrow. She'd have to cancel her date with Jake, but he'd understand she'd need to prep. Jennifer had already agreed to have dinner at Kayleigh's tonight, so she wouldn't be home until later anyway. 

Molly went straight to her boyfriend's ranch to tell him she wouldn't be able to have him over tonight. 

"Hey baby," Jake's smile immediately lit up his face when he saw her. "Lookin' forward to tonight," he added as he pulled her in for a kiss, surprised to feel her freeze up. "Summit up?" he asked, trying not to read too much into it. 

"I can't do tonight," she started, "coz I have a job interview tomorrow." 

He swallowed the objection he was about to make as he lifted her up to twirl her excitedly. "That's great news, I mean not about tonight. But that's great. What job is it?" Jake said, now finally seeing her smile a little excited; she'd been a little worried how he'd take it. 

"Office administrator at the high school. And eventually they'll train me as TA to become a teacher," Molly told him. 

"That's amazing, well done," he sounded so proud as he twirled her again. 

"I haven't got it yet," she said realistically, but loving how much faith he had in her as he held her. 

"I know ye will," he told her and kissed her. "I'm so proud of ye," he added and kissed her again. She blushed as she returned the kisses. "Right… so I know ye need time tonight, but let me cook first," Jake suggested now, knowing she would be home alone until late. 

"Oh I dunno..." his girlfriend started hesitantly. 

"My cookin' ain't that bad," he reminded her, making her laugh. "Come on, ye gotta eat anyway. At least this way we get to spend some time together," he said now, pulling her closer. "I shouldn't have to work this hard to convince ye," he used her words against her as he pressed a kiss to her neck. 

"Yeah okay," Molly agreed now, feeling him smile as he kissed her neck again. 

"Let's go then," her boyfriend said, suddenly making her think that perhaps he was no longer talking about cooking. Jake led the way back to her ranch, heading towards the back door as he knew that would be unlocked. He opened the door and walked in backwards, pulling her in with him, giving her a wink as he leaned in to kiss her now. 

"Jake..." she objected feebly as she tried not to kiss him back. She needed time tonight and, while she never wanted to say no to him, she couldn't afford to get distracted by him. 

"It's for luck, help ye relax," her boyfriend murmured in between kisses, his hands on her hips to guide her towards her room once she was on board. 

Her head was warring with her body on what to do. "Well... when ye put it like that..." Molly said slowly, before she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back harder. He started guiding her into her room, enjoying her fingers undoing his shirt as they went. Before he lay her down, he slowly worked on getting her shirt off, his lips teasing her neck as his fingers teased her body. He teasingly brushed past her nipples as he undid her shirt, then reached back to undo her bra. He stopped her hands from doing the same to him, one hand massaging her breast as his tongue teased her nipple.
