We finally landed on the Indiana-Ohio border, and both of us were exhausted. Jax's shoulders slumped forward, and dark circles ringed his eyes. If I didn't know better, I'd think he hadn't fed in weeks. But I had the bite marks on my neck to prove otherwise. Too bad for us, we still had a very long walk ahead of us. I wasn't sure either of us would make it much farther, definitely not all the way to the U.P. Not tonight, anyway.
I glanced up at the sky, which was bordering on black. Storm clouds rolled across the expanse, and the air held a frigid chill I wasn't used to. Shivering, I rubbed my hands up and down my arms.
"Snowstorm," Jax said. "We need to get moving so we don't get caught in it." He nodded for me to follow.
I grabbed his arm before he could get too far away. "Neither of us are in any shape to walk. . . how far? A few hundred miles into the U.P.? And if the snow is coming, we won't make it all the way."
"I'll use my vampire speed."
