The Running Game

"Wake up ladies!!" Sarge shouted. We all rushed quickly, lined up in two rows facing each other like our beds. He went to me. "Aaahh, you seem better than anyone Slouch."

I stayed quiet. "Hmmph, you grumpy from running?" he said. "No sir." "Well, that's good. Because all of you are going to be going on teams."

"I want Jack, Chief and Humphrey facing Slouch, Girlboy, and Hunter."

Wow, that's just totally messed up. We went outside from the room.

"You going to do a game called Suicide." Everyone muttered confused. "I'm gonna kill myself?" Hunter asked.

"You will be running to the line—and back, to this line—then back," he said pointing to each line and back. "You will be reaching that tree over there.

He reached a tree so far about thirty miles. Nah, that's not me. I already did fifty laps in the night. Why would I now run to a tree?!

"Hunter and Jack, let's go!" he said. They both ran-to the line-and back.

"Go-go-go!!" I shouted. Glenn screamed and cheered for Hunter.

Hunter's legs went running. He was on the fifth line. Jack was on the third.

We were winning. Sarge looked amazed, not so much but at least good enough. "Come on, Hunter!" He almost reached the end of the line.

Few seconds passed, and Hunter—sweating as rain ran back to our team. Glenn was next.

Hunter got a bottle of water. "Good job on the run right there," Sarge said.

Glenn was too fast. He was on the sixth line before Jack was even done. But, Chief was zooming, so I could tell Glenn hurried up.

"GO CHIEF!!!" Humphrey shouted. Glenn, made it first and it was my turn.

I ran pretty fast, not as fast as Glenn. I was on the third before Humphrey started. It was going in slow motion. My legs hopped from the floor like never before.

Screams shouted like never before. I reached the fifteenth line. I was close to the tree. My heart beated faster than going on a test.

My legs went faster than running from Ashley. I hope I went higher than being in that camp. I reached the last line then—my heart felt as if it cracked.

I collapsed and fainted. I heard shouts, Sarge, Glenn, and Hunter. The laughs of Jack. It felt as if I was gone. My heart stopped, my blood went cold and then I felt like I was in the galaxy and couldn't feel myself anymore.

I opened my eyes, it was dark, my mouth felt like ashes. But I saw someone I haven't seen for the past few days.

Gwen.
