Joining the Army

I woke up tired, I didn't even know where I was. It was pitch black, and a bunch of tents were the things that were in the distance. We're we trapped? Were we in a different German camp?

I was partially right.

We were in a different camp, but not a German camp. A soldier came into the room.

"Hey, how are you?" "I'm doing—" Glenn interrupted me. "It's my friend here that needs help."

I was embarrassed. I was guessing that was a medic, but—um—I thought he was talking about me. He went over to Gwen. She laid on the floor, shaking and breathing heavily.

"Shhh—it's okay, calm down," he said. He got a shot of morphine and he contaminated her with it. He then poured some water. I believe I heard whimpering.

I still thought to myself. Why didn't I shoot the guy? What made my blood go cold?

Another soldier came, jogging to the tent. "Sir," he said. "Private Nexus has something to tell us."

It was later that night, me and Glenn were in the room with Nexus. He had a really bushy beard from the sides of his head then it trailed down around his mouth.

"I see," Nexus said. "It's a pleasure that you guys want to join the army.

He looked at us, with those blue eyes that sparkled. "But, first I want to ask you-what makes you think you will be able to join the army. And are you even ready?"

I thought in my head, the camp and escaping it through those guards, the hunt, surviving the woods, and going through a battle.

"You all know I'll be expecting more from you guys," he said. "But then after all, you must be weary from all those years and weeks of torture and survival."

This was hard. It will be dangerous, hard—more tortuous than ever. And if I was trapped by the enemy, I would be at camp—or worse.

But then we would just be kicked out of this place. We have to start surviving in the woods. And you never know if more Germans are looking for us.

"Sir," I said. "The only reason why I escaped was to get revenge and to burn down those Germans to their knees. But now...I just want America to be safe. So I'm ready."

Glenn nodded and smiled. "I'm with him," he said. Nexus smiled. "Perfect," he said.
