Vigilant Myst (Archived)

Cyberpunk-Based This is a story about a mercenary who has no understanding of how he ended up in the dumpsters, with a little help and guidance by his mercenary friends, Mayne and Bolt. This mercenary has no purpose neither no mission relating to understanding his past. All that matters is that he makes a name for himself in the futuristic city of Nomalan. Throughout his life, he makes allies, makes enemies and pisses off the higher ups with what he does. Actions that oddly sound familiar to a former vigilante. This story takes place in the UNDERDOGS universe.

"Never mind that, Mechsmith, I need to ask a favour." said Hound, "what with?" asked Mechsmith. "it's not like you ever ask us for anything..." Hound handed Mechsmith Ted's phone and identifies it as Ted Mogwai but looking at Ted, he doesn't share many features with Ted Mogwai. "He looks more like Faith Masters." Ted asked who this 'Faith Masters' was. "Funny thing about her is that nobody knows a lot about her, they only know that she was associated with the Underdogs..." Ted was about to ask about these 'Underdogs' but Bolt jumped into the conversation, "Wait for a second! She was indeed associated with them but it didn't mean that she was part of the Underdogs." Ted was caught in the middle of the conversation while Mechsmith, Hound, Stream and Bolt were arguing about what they know of the Underdogs. It was then that he received an instant flash in his mind that showed the people in front of him changed into people with different masks looking at him, he could hear them whispering in different waves the word, "remember." Ted's mind felt weak as he collapsed. Bolt went to check on his pulse and said, "he's fine... Could be something serious, is there a doctor around here..." Stream and Bolt carried Ted to the workbench and went through Ted's database, "that's interesting..." said Stream, "what's interesting?" asked Bolt, "The memory banks here are corrupted but they aren't affecting his health, and these... I don't even know what they are... Maybe that's why those agents wanted Ted, he has something that they want to work on." Stream closed off the connection and fixed Ted, he woke up, commenting that he felt like, "I was in a sleepover party I wasn't invited to." Bolt asked Ted, "how are you feeling?" Ted stood up and got off the workbench, "feel different, it's like something hit me in the head and told me to wake up... What?" Stream asked Ted, "what do you remember about your past?" Tea responded, "I don't know anything about my past let alone, how I ended up in the dumpster." Mechsmith asked Ted about the dumpster and to be specific, "I remember... Waking up as a corpse in the middle of nowhere... I was afraid, there were two gremlins-like people, one came close to me... I freaked out and... I killed him, I couldn't move my legs and my body was weak as if someone ripped my cyber ware. I hitched a ride after the second person saw his partner dead, he drove off and brought me to Normalan. A few drives later, he is speaking with an obese man and a heavily guarded woman, they killed him but I escaped... That was when this woman found me and drove me to a doctor..." Mechsmith stopped Ted and asked who the woman was but he said that he didn't know, he continued his story, "I was still weak but able to move, the doctor suggested that I go to this building to find information, a woman gave me a chip..." Ted began looking through his pockets and realized that he lost it, he hit his forehead in disappointment, but he carried on with his story, seeing that Mechsmith wouldn't care, "After I leave the building, one of the guys in the Hye Ryp Gang said he recognized me but I didn't know him, that was then I was about to get into a fight but the cops showed and I fled like a coward and that was when..." Bolt synced with Ted, "That was when you meet me and Mayne, holy shit... I can't believe a lot of that happened in one day but now look at you, already doing a neat job on shit... Mayne called it a convenient event." Hound examined the phone and noticed a small detail on it, "it says on the back that it belongs to Ted Mogwai... Hmm, it says his mortality status is alive... Why would that be there?"

Stream had a theory, "Maybe it's there because Mogwai would have likely had information stored somewhere and whenever he would need it or keep it safe, it would be... Holy mackerel... He would have inserted it into his software in hopes that if he were to die then the information would die along with him... Now that's legitimately fucked up." Then another of Mechsmith's allies came running down and giving dire news, "multiple agents are storming the club and demanding someone... Most of the customers are trying to kill them while the girls are scared straight, they've injured sixteen of our girls!" Mechsmith was boiling with anger and she and Stream stormed out of the lair and into the club where they attempt to kill the agents, they looked around and saw that they killed most of the customers whereas the girls were being interrogated one by one. "Hey, assholes! You're not allowed to just barge into my club and think like you own the club, now leave!" one of the agents was about to shoot Mechsmith but their leader ran in and attacked his agents, he walked up to Mechsmith, he bowed and apologized profusely to what his men have done to the club, "I will be sure they will receive the harshest punishment." Mechsmith forgives but demanded that he would get to kill one of his men, "you have full authorization." Mechsmith killed the one behind the leader, and the leader took his agents and spurred insults to them in Chinese. Ted and Bolt ran out of the lair and looked at the damage the agents have caused, "thankfully none of the girls died, but unfortunately for the customers..." they looked around and saw multiple bodies near where the girls were and the surviving customers were traumatized by what they saw. "Attention everyone, I apologize for what you had to endure, but as of now, I am forced to close the club until further notice, I'm truly sorry."
