Chapter 28: Celebrating Early Achievements
“Your secrets are safe with me,” he would promise as he laughed at their nervousness after each time that he had caught them discussing someone or something in the neighborhood. To Steven it seemed as if they knew everything about everyone.
“You guys should go and work at the TV news station. You’re totally wasting your gifts here,” he would say with a straight a face as he could muster.
“I’m very happy where I am,” Florence, the cook would declare with her arms folded firmly across her chest.
“You would be with all the dishes you get to taste all day,” Amy would respond, pretending to pout.
Florence’s round body was a testimony of all the dishes and dessert’s that she got to taste as part of her daily duties.
“And you would be with all the leisure hours you have to watch soapies on TV,” Florence would respond while giving a sauce a rigorous stir on the stove.
“Shhh, someone will hear you,” Steven would joke.
