Although it was Giavanna and Xander who nearly fell, Stacy showed no concern towards her master.
Instead, she was more worried about Giavanna.
"That was close," Giavanna exclaimed, her left hand on her chest.
"Madam," Stacy called politely when Giavanna didn't reply. Her worried tone made Giavanna shift her eyes to Stacy's face.
She almost burst out in a peal of deafening laughter when she saw Stacy's worried stricken face.
'After my Mum died, I believed that none would ever care or worry about me in this world... I guess I was wrong. Stacy worries a lot and at every slightest issue especially when it concerns me. She is just like my Mum?'
Giavanna was in deep thought as she stared at Stacy's face. For some unknown reason she saw her mother's face in Stacy's and that brought back memories she had buried deep inside her.
"Giavanna, are you alright?" Stacy touched her hand when she wouldn't talk to her no matter how many times she asked.
"Yeah, I am fine Stacy and I can handle things over here alone. Go in and continue with what you were doing," Giavanna replied.
She pulled Xander onto herself.
"I can have the guards take Mr. Xander to his room if you don't want me to get close..."
"Stacy, I am fine. And I didn't say I can handle things here because I don't want you to get into close contact with my husband," Giavanna explained to the lady whom she could tell had misunderstood her intentions.
If it were another maid she wouldn't have bothered to explain herself but Stacy was different.
She has served her family ever since she was a child and that means they practically grew up together. And their relationship was very good a year ago.
"I will take him to his room now," Giavanna added.
Slowly, she moved away from the centre table. And Stacy who was watching everything couldn't stop worrying as she watched them climb the stairs.
Stacy heaved a sigh of relief and exited the sitting room after she saw that Giavanna had two more stairs to climb.
Just when they were about to climb the last stair, Giavanna pretended to have stumbled. She grabbed Xander's hand and pulled him to herself so that there was not a gap between them.
"Hey, I know that you have missed me but why do you have to be so naughty?" Giavanna asked flirtatiously. She acted as if she hadn't seen the young woman that had just gotten there.
"What if someone bumps into this scene..."
"Ooh... Eve!" Giavanna exclaimed. She acted as if she wasn't aware that the lady had been there for a while.
"He was fine a few moments ago. What the hell happened to him?" Eve demanded. The way she behaved was as if she wasn't the one Giavanna talked to.
She held Xander's hand and yanked him away from Giavanna. For a second there, her jealousy made her forget her manners.
"Let me help you to your room, Xand," Eve mumbled. She made Xander wrap his hand around her neck and afterwards tried to leave.
"And why the hell would you do that when I am here to attend to his needs?" Giavanna retorted.
Yes, she was a fabulous actor and excellent at concealing her emotions.
She has tolerated Eve's awful attitude towards her ever since she returned but she just couldn't do that. Not this time around.
"I am sure you must be exhausted so I will take care of things from here onwards. Leave the trivia things to me while you shower and go to bed. I don't want Xand blaming me if you have trouble waking up," Eve replied.
She tried hard to fool Giavanna but she just failed to get rid of the irritation in her tone.
"And how could anything that concerns my husband, the CEO of the entire Henry's Group be considered trivia?" Giavanna countered her sentence.
If this had happened in the past she would have left Xander in Eve's care without hesitation but too bad now, she knows better.
"Big Sis..."
"Eve, I understand that you and my husband are very close but I am his wife, don't forget. It's my responsibility to take care of him," Giavanna was blunt with her reply. Her tone wasn't polite either.
"I appreciate that you took care of him while I was away but that won't be necessary now that I am back. He is no longer a single helpless man that needs others' help, always remember that," Giavanna stated.
She grabbed Xander's hand and pulled him onto herself.
Giavanna walked two steps forward and paused at the corridor leading to Xander's room.
"While at it, get me a towel and a bowl of clean water. I am afraid he won't be able to take a shower in this state," Giavanna instructed and resumed walking. She didn't spare the fuming woman a second glance.
Although she could have easily passed the message to the maids, Eve ran the errand by herself.
The fear of leaving Giavanna and Xander alone made her do this.
After three minutes Eve arrived in front of Xander's bedroom door with the things Giavanna demanded for.
Like a habit, she pushed the door open and entered the room without knocking.
The scene where her eyes met almost made the bowl of water fall from her hands. Her dilated eyelashes fluttered repeatedly as she tried to steady her trembling hands.
"Ooh... you are here!" Giavanna, whom Xander laid on top of, remarked. She didn't forget to flash Eve her sweetest smile while at it.
