Useless

"You're quadriplegic" The doctor muttered with a deep breath.

I gazed at him for a while feeling chills slowly running down my spine as tear droplets swiftly flowed from my eyes.

"What do you mean by that?"

"I'm sorry Mr Thomas we did the best we could but the bullets severed your spine.even with our best advanced technology we can't still heal you..."

"Enough of the long talks." My voice echoed the atmosphere interrupting the doctor"what do you mean by I'm quadriplegic."

"It means you can't walk anymore, you're basically paralyzed."

I looked at the doctor lost in his gaze.

"Welcome home honey." A whispered voice said into my ears.

"It's not home anymore." I said.

"I understand the pain you're going through. Trust me you'll pull through." She said,

"Mum please. Enough with the encouraging words." I said sluggishly as she pushed my wheelchair towards the kitchen slab.

"Now according to the engineer, these new robotic arms will help you make meals. For example, fruit juice."

The robot arms swayed around squeezing an orange tightly as the liquids poured into a glass cup. It swayed its arm towards me,handing me the cup of juice.

"I've always hated these things called machines.no I'm stuck with them." I said to myself.

I leaned my head, sipping the juice slowly.

"That's it,I'll be right back." She said as her footsteps faded away.

The A.I. wheelchair dashboard lit up "battery low."

I toggled the control moving towards the battery bank standing vaguely at the edge of my room, time passed as I relaxed my back into the chair looking at the ceiling as memories flashed through. The robot's dashboard appeared,"Charging now complete." Interrupting me.

I moved slowly towards my room as the entrance of my room zoomed in slowly.

"You know mum,you can't always be here. The machines technically do everything for me." I said to her gazing at her with a smile filling my face as she sat elegantly on my bed.

"It's not wrong of me to take care of my son,now is it." My mother said with a bright smile.

I looked at her, tears streaming down my face. My chest ached as sobs wracked my body, and I cried out, the pain of loss overwhelming me.

My mother rushed over to me holding me tightly against her body,"it's ok…,it's okay."

"She's gone,she's actually gone."I cried out loud.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine." My mother reassured me.

I moved my wheelchair towards the table. "Hello, Mr. Thomas. Will Mrs. Angela be joining us for dinner?" the robot arms asked.

I ignored it, my focus solely on my next command."Administer P.M. medicine," I ordered.

The machine whirred and dosed me."Administer P.M. medicine," I repeated, and the robot compiled again. My frustration bubbled up.

"You didn't get it right. Administer P.M. medicine," I insisted, and it dosed me once more.My vision began to blur, and a dizzy lightness washed over my body. "Administer P.M. medicine," I mumbled, my words slurring. "I cannot administer any more medicine. I have contacted the hospital to report an overdose," the robot stated.

"No, no, no!" I shouted, panic surging as my world spun. My eyes fluttered closed, and I felt myself slipping, my body slowly falling to the floor as darkness overtook me.

My eyes opened slowly, observing my environment as beeping sounds filled the room and ray of the scorching sunlight bloomed across the window to my bed."anybody there." I called out.

My mother pushed the door right open"Thomas, are you doing ok."

"You know mum I'm not a kid anymore that'd you'd be looking after."

Her hand swung in swiftly,my eyes closed shutly seeing her hands coming towards me at a fast pace.

"Ouch, mum what was that for.why who you hit me."I said with a shocked look,

"You overdosed yourself, you're trying to commit suicide and you're telling me to let you be,if that's what you really want I'm not doing it." My mother shouted at the top of her voice as it filled the room.

For the first time in a long time, I saw tears escape my mother's eyes." I'm sorry mum,I was selfish. I just thought it'd be best to join her wherever she was.it won't happen again."

"Thank you Thomas,I'll be back. I've got work to do." She said as she carried her bag leaving the room at a slow pace, she gazed at me at the exit as she shut the door."

"Hello Mr Thomas." A voice said coming from the dark part of the room.

"Who's there?" I shouted out, pressing the call button for the nurse.

"I've been here for a while watching and listening to everything you said,I know the pain you're going through. I myself have gone through that same thing." The voice said.

"Oh please like you know what or how it feels to be quadriplegic." I muttered.

"I understand I might not entirely understand what you're going through but…".

"If you don't mind, haven't you had enough of the mysterious act."I interrupted.

Footsteps slowly increased hitting the pavement slowly ,as I felt an approach towards me.

"Wait you're ermmmm Davis junior CEO of Eronx Electronics. Wow it's an honour but I hate to ask, I'm not really much of a celebrity so what do I owe this visit."I asked puzzled.

"I came because I have a way to help you walk again." He said.

I giggled "please I'm quadriplegic what could you do that the doctors haven't."

"They claim to have advanced technology but we at Eronx Electronics have far more superior technology." He muttered.

"And what does this technology do?" I said with a cold gaze.

"It basically does everything, anything and moments unseen." He said.

"Ok supposedly I agree to accept this, wait what's the name of this technology and why me?." I muttered.

"Well not only are you the best fit for this trial….."

"Wait, trail so you haven't tested. So I'm some kind of test subject."I muttered confused.

"Well yes but just imagine what would happen if you accept and it works imagine what you could do." He said with a reassuring voice.

"And if it doesn't work, what's going to happen?." I asked with a curious voice.

"Well you'll die but….."

"Enough, just as I thought you just wanted a test subject. Leave!." I said pointing directly towards the door.

He turns around walking towards the door. His movement paused, turning his head towards me."you wanted a quick death that was avoided. That's why you're here right plus I heard you couldn't do anything to help your wife. Think about your wife Thomas, what would she want?" He said leaving the room.

"Wait, I never told you my name…" I said as he exited the room.

A nurse rushed into my room "is there anything you need sir."

I lashed out,"Is this how you all attend to your patients?"

"I'm sorry sir." The nurse apologized.

"It's fine, I don't need you anymore. You may take your leave." I muttered.

"Or wait a minute while you are on your way out and call the doctor for me." I said,

"Sure sir." The nurse muttered.

The sound of the door closing vibrated the whole room shaking the decorations as I set my eyes to look at the city through the window as I layed in my bed.

Thoughts passed through my mind as words of reminder of what Davis junior said.

"What would she want?" I said to myself as memories flashed through my mind.

"I'll get revenge for you Angela, you just wait and see."

The door opened as footsteps approached me. "Mr Thomas you called for my attention,is anything the problem?."

"No doc,I just wanted to know when I'd be discharged." I muttered.

"Are you in a hurry?." He asked.

"It's not your business doc." I said angrily.

"Sorry Mr Thomas for the intrusiveness. But sadly you cannot leave until your mother asks us to." He muttered.

"Wait, what do you mean by that,"I said.

"Your mother doesn't want you home till she's sure you'd not overdose or do something to yourself." He added.

"Fine." I shrugged

He turned to leave the room as he paused his steps.

"Mr Thomas you have visitors." He said.

"Who are they?."I said.

"The cops, Mr Thomas." He said.

He leaves the room as a lady with two police officers walks in looking at me with a pale look.

"How can I help you today officers." I said.

"Good day Mr Thomas. We're officers from the city police department,I'm detective Nelly and these are my colleagues. To keep it straight forward we're here for questions about what happened to you." she said.

I stared at them with a pale cold face as I clenched my jaws and my eyes turned.
