17. Now 18.
The sweet youth turned bitter.
Divine irony must have been at play when naming him after such a bittersweet drink.
The drink that perfectly described his life, down to the very end.
He could see Lucy, his love, escaping with the eddies.
Enough to fly to the moon… Alone. Scarred. Lost.
He couldn’t keep his promise to her. Or rather, not in the way he intended.
But what’s the point of a dream, of a promise, of anything, if the meaning behind it is twisted? If it cost him everything and everyone for just half of a deal?
His blood tasted disgustingly bittersweet in his mouth. What a bittersweet “victory”.
Bittersweet life. Bittersweet love. Bittersweet death.
He absolutely hated this sick flavor.
A drink should be pleasant to the drinker.
He wants his Martinez overwhelmingly sweet, with not even an ounce of bitterness. Or, at the very least, he and only him, be the one to have to taste something so horrible so that the others could drink what they deserved.
But that was all useless in the end. He was already dead.
If only he had a chance to start over, maybe his ‘Martinez’ wouldn’t be this bitter…
