Kakuto POV

Daniel: Man, This sucks!

Kakuto: Tell me about it

After we finally got back to Astrella with Chrysti herself along with her posse to welcome us back after a successful mission, before reminding us about the aircraft that was supposed to bring us back. We tried to lie our way out but she wasn't buying it, so here we are. As punishment for destroying Astrella's property, she decided to make us clean the school pool.

Musagen: I don't see anyone scrubbing, so get to it!!

Junko: Come on, stop complaining at least finish first before you do

Oda: You're one to talk, Junko. Your side isn't even cleaned properly, it's like a kid just ran by the room with all these uneven scrubs

Oda said bluntly causing us the snicker at Junko's cleaning ability

Junko: S-shut up! It's not that bad

Chrysti: In all honesty, at least you are just doing your job

Oh yeah, for our supervision, Chrysti is also here watching us...well as much as she could seeing as though she is getting a suntan near the pool that is under direct sunlight

Oda: Come on everyone, just finish this up and we'll be done

Kakuto: *thoughts* Yeah, finish with this. before cleaning the other 3 pools. God things are much simpler back then.

The team and I were now in our team dorm after finishing our punishment, Daniel is immediately laying on the couch exhausted, Junko slouched on the couch and Oda went to the kitchen to make tea

Kakuto: Ahh, we're finally done! I thought my back was about to give out

I said as I stretch my arms up before someone slapped my back causing me to hunch over again as I felt the spot that they slapped. I then turned to my assailant to see my sister who was the cause of my new back pain

Shizuha: You're just out of shape little brother

Kakuto: Hey I...Yeah I got nothing

Shizuha and I then made our way to the living room taking a seat with the others as we took our time to relax. As we took our place in the living room, Oda came back with a tray of teacups and a teapot and placing it down on the coffee table, pouring tea into the cups before taking one and sitting on an open chair space, finally some time of peace.

Kakuto: Well, I better get ready, there are still classes later to attend

Shizuha: Oh, you're right!

Daniel: Wait, we still have to go!

Junko: Yeah, didn't you know that?

Daniel: I thought we got the rest of the day off cause we just got back from our mission

Oda: Technically our mission is accomplished when we first saved my village

Daniel: *groan* You're right

Oda: Still I am very grateful that you turned back and saved my village once more

Oda: I guess you could say, You 'turned the fate' of my village

Kakuto: *embarrassed* Argh! Stop it! of all the things why that!!?

I exclaimed hiding my embarrassment as the rest of my team began laughing at me

Kakuto: Stop laughing!!

Shizuha: I'm sorry...haha...I just never thought you would say that

Kakuto: It was in the heat of the moment alright! It just felt right to say.

Junko: *calming down* Sure...whatever you say

Kakuto: Can we just go? We're gonna be late

Shizuha: Oh you're right! Talk to you guys later

Classroom

After the events back in the dorm, we swore that we will never bring up that moment ever again. Once I sat down at my desk

Sanji: Hey, man! Didn't see you for a good two days!

Kakuto: Hey, Sanji. Just got caught up on some things

Sanji: Yeah, heard you just got back from your mission and Chrysti immediately put you guys on cleaning duty for destroying Kingdom property

Kakuto: dang, did she really said that to the student body?

Sanji: Nah, it's just what I do. for the News Broadcasting team that is.

Kakuto: Sure...So what else happened while I was gone?

Sanji: I heard there's a new transfer student that's gonna join our class

Kakuto: Really now? Do you know what team they'll be on?

Sanji: That part I haven't found out yet.

Prof. Jin: Alright, settle down class. As you may or may not have heard, there will be a new transfer student joining us today. *to the door* You can come in now

The door to our class then opened before the transfer student entered causing most of my male classmates to gawk at her, Sanji taking pictures of the student as I double-back in shock

The transfer student is a girl with long scarlet hair, with a tiara-like headpiece with golden chains. She wore our school uniform with a bronze corset over her dress shirt rather than the included vest as a modification. She has Lilac eyes and a well-built figure, maybe due to a harsh training regiment

Transfer Student: Hello, everyone. My name is Phoebe Galanis, daughter of Luke Galanis the king of the new civilization of Sparda

Random Student #1: So she's royalty?

Random Student #2: Pretty and rich, that's just unfair

Prof. Jin: Now why don't you tell everyone something about yourself?

Phoebe: I believe that strength is everything and that the people without strength are just preyed waiting to be eaten

This caused the gossip around her to turn bitter as it didn't sit well with my other classmates while I buried my head between the books that I have as I groan in discomfort because of the situation that she put herself in.

Shizuha: *whisper* Hey, do you know her, too?

Kakuto:*whisper* Kinda...

Shizuha: Was she always this...self-centered?

Kakuto: *looks back at Phoebe* A bit controlled but other than that she's still the same

Shizuha: Why do you keep finding the weird ones?

Kakuto: I don't know, it comes my way naturally I guess

Prof. jin: Ok, your seat will be...over there by Ms. Onirize

Kakuto/Shizuha: Huh?!

Great, can this day get any worse?

Timeskip (Team Dorm)

I just had to ask

Phoebe: Hello, My name is Phoebe Galanis. I will be a part of your team as of today

Oda: Welcome, Phoebe. We are glad that you are a part of our team

Phoebe: Well this team doesn't show much potential. *looks at Kakuto* Except for one that is

She pointed out causing my friends to be taken aback by her bluntness before being shocked as Phoebe walked towards me

Phoebe: I can't wait to show you how strong I have become

Kakuto: hehe...sure, I'm so excited.

Chrysti: I see you have acquainted with your new teammate already

Daniel: *mumble* I think "Acquainted" isn't the word I'd describe it

Chrysti: Ms. Galanis will be a part of your team for your mission.

Junko: But didn't we just came back from one?

Chrysti: The mission isn't until a few days. You will be deployed early for immediate response if necessary

Daniel: Well, I guess that'll be our first mission as teammates. Hope we get along

Daniel then reached his hand out for a shake but Phoebe only eyed it in disgust

Phoebe: I don't associate with weaklings. I'll be seeing you all in the aircraft

she said before storming off with her gear

Chrysti: By the way, your mission suits have been made and is waiting for you upon arrival

Shizuha: Where will we be going, might I ask?

Chrysti: The District of Neo-Tokyo

This perked Me and Junko's interest before being drawn back by Chrysti

Chrysti: I'll get going to let you pack. Have a safe trip

With that, she finally left.

(3rd POV)

Junko is preparing her things to prepare for the mission, she stopped when she heard a knock on her door. Junko turned around and found Shizuha leaning on her doorframe

Junko: Oh, Shizuha! Are you finished packing already?

Shizuha: Yeah, I'm a light packer. Correct me if I'm wrong but, Neo Tokyo is where you met Kakuto, right?

Junko: Yep, we were raised alongside each other by my family.

Shizuha: What was he like back then?

Junko: Not so different now. Still the same giddy idiot from before

Shizuha: You like him don't you?

Junko:*blush* L-L-Like him! That idiot!? N-n-n-no way!!

Shizuha: *giggle* Not that way, silly. I mean his inspiration, attitude, and overall caringness for others

Junko: O-oh, Then yeah, I guess.

The two then sat in awkward silence for a bit, only hearing the occasional humming of the air conditioning and the ruckus from the other rooms as they are still packing their things

Junko: What about you?

Shizuha: What about me?

Junko: How was he back then with you? My last memory of him before was when he left.

Shizuha: Well...he was very interesting when I first met him

Flashback (Shizuha POV)

I was eight years old at the time. My parents and I were walking around the park looking for a place for a picnic, that's when I noticed an Obsidian haired boy sitting alone under a tree

Little Shizuha: Mom, Dad. look!

I grabbed my parent's attention as I pointed at the little boy

Little Shizuha: Can I go talk to him?

Mom: Hmm...ok, but be careful sweety.

I then walked over to the boy, he was looking around the park, watching the other families having fun, his gaze then turned to me once I got closer to him, his hair covering his eyes but I could feel him staring at me.

Once I was in front of him, I leaned down to meet his eye level

Little Shizuha: Hi! How are you?

Boy: I'm fine...why?

Little Shizuha: It's cause you seem lonely. I bet your parents must be worried

Boy: I don't have any

Little Shizuha: Then what about a place to stay?

Boy: This is all I have at the moment

Little Shizuha: Then how about you come with me? I always wanted to have a brother

The boy then raised his head with confusion in his eyes

Boy: A brother?

Little Shizuha: Yeah a brother.

Boy: A brother...

I then extend my hand to him as I gave him a smile

Little Shizuha: So what do you say?

Boy; Sure...

He reached for my hand before standing up. I then took his arm and pulled him to my parents as I call out to them in excitement

Little Shizuha: Mom, Dad!

Mom: Sweety, and who's this little fella?

Little Shizuha: Can he be my brother, please?

Mom: Brother?

Dad: I did remember Shizuha wanting a brother before.

Mom: Well we can't just take kids, sweety. What about his parents?

Boy: I don't have any, ma'am

Mom: Oh you poor thing. But are you sure you want to be a part of our family? We won't force you if you don't want to

Boy: No, I want to. Please, I want a place I could belong.

Mom: Very well, do you at least have a name?

Boy: Kakuto.

Dad: Seven years old, I turn eight in two weeks...I think

Mom: Well then, Kakuto. Welcome to the Onirize Family.

We then invited to join him us for our family picnic. From then on he slowly began being a part of our family though he was still a bit shy here and there. but it wasn't always that way.

3rd POV

Shizuha is galloping to Kakuto's room, excited to hang out with his brother. She opened the door to his room to find Kakuto petting a lion made of water as it curls around its master protectively

Shizuha: Woah!

Shizuha's astonishment alerted Kakuto and his lion, Senki immediately growled at Shizuha as it protects Kakuto causing Shizuha to hide behind the door, but Kakuto quickly took action

Kakuto: No, no, no! Calm down, Senki

Kakuto ran his hand through the 'fur' of the lion, soothing it as it calms down but still keeping its gaze on Shizuha as she hid behind the door. Once Senki was calmed down, he then turned to the door where his sister is hiding

Kakuto: It's ok, he won't hurt you

Shizuha: *step out* Wow...I've never seen anything like it

Shizuha tried reaching out to Senki but pulled back once he growled at her approach

Kakuto: Hey, hey calm down. She won't hurt you.

Senki listened to its master as it sat down and let Shizuha approach him. Once Shizuha was close, she pets Senki's 'fur' feeling the water like fur move along her hand as Senki accepted her petting

Shizuha: Woah, is he your pet?

Kakuto: No, he's my familiar. The noble lion of the sea, Senki.

Shizuha: That's so cool!

Kakuto: I can also summon the Legendary flame dragon, Renkai.

Shizuha: So you can summon legendary beasts as a Phantasma, that's amazing.

Kakuto then went silent causing Senki to turn to him in worry which caused Shizuha to do so as well

Shizuha: Hey, are you ok?

kakuto: I don't have one

Shizuha: What?

Kakuto: I don't have a Phantasma...

Shizuha: But that's just not possible. Everyone has a Phantasma, it's what defines who you are.

Kakuto: I guess, I'm an exception

Senki placed its head on Kakuto's lap to cheer its master up

Kakuto: All I wanted, is a place to belong. To call home

Shizuha: Well you always have a place with us.

Kakuto: But what about your mom and dad?

Shizuha: They won't just abandon you just because of that, and besides, they're your mom and dad too.

Kakuto: Shizuha...

Kakuto then wrapped Shizuha in an embrace as they laid down with Senki as they slept together not seeing their parents leaning on the doorframe.

A few days after that, Mr. and Mrs. Onirize found out that Kakuto got in a fight with some kids in the neighborhood. This became a reoccurrence ever since Kakuto revealed his secret to Shizuha, Kakuto isn't one to back down to some bullies especially since not only were they press him to show them his Phantasma, they were also bad-mouthing his family name, but due to him not being able to fight back he always came back home bruised.

Being the worried parents they were, they decided to confront Kakuto about this, a situation that Kakuto himself didn't want to be in for it might mean they'll be angry and force him to leave the comfort of his newfound home.

Shizuha POV

We're finally back home after Kakuto's fight with the other kids, sometimes I feel really bad that I couldn't help him, his strength isn't shown through his skills but his reason for fighting, the fire in his eyes never died out even how much he was beaten up.

Shizuha: Mom! Dad! We're home!

Dad: *afar* Shizuha! Kakuto! Can you come to the living room, there is a matter we would like to discuss with your mother.

We heard Dad said with a neutral voice, confusing us as to what we were gonna talk about but still complied. Once we reached the living room, Mom and Dad were sitting together on the couch, none of us saying a word causing the air to thicken until Dad finally started the conversation.

Dad: Kakuto, I heard you got into another fight today. Is that true?

Shizuha: ...

Kakuto: Yes, Dad...

Dad: You look beat up. Did you fight back?

Shizuha: Dad, please-

Mom: Shizuha, don't meddle with them

Dad: Answer me, Kakuto

Kakuto: I couldn't...

Dad: You were trained by your uncle in basic hand-to-hand combat. You could've put up a fight and come out a winner. So tell me, why couldn't you fight back?

Kakuto: Because I'm WORTHLESS!!!

Shizuha: *worried* Y...

Kakuto: I couldn't fight back because I don't have a Phantasma! Nothing that could define who I am, while they can brag on what they can be!

Kakuto: I don't have the only thing that could define myself to be, Dad. Without that reason...I couldn't be strong.

I looked at Kakuto in shock and so does he that he had revealed to them his life that they didn't want to learn. We then look back at our parents to find that they have a disheartened expression towards Kakuto

Dad:*sigh* I'm disappointed in you, Kakuto

Mom: Yes, that was very disheartening. We cannot believe-

Shizuha: -Mom, Dad. Please, don't-

Mom: -That it took you this long to tell us.

Kakuto/Shizuha: Huh?

Dad: Kakuto, Why did you think that we let you in our Family in the first place?

Kakuto: Why...?

Dad: Shizuha always wanted to have a brother. The day we met you supposed to be the day we get to adopt a brother to Shizuha.

Mom: Kakuto, we didn't take care of you because you have a Phantasma, We took care of you because your our son and Shizuha's little brother.

Dad then went up to Kakuto and raised his hand above his head, causing Kakuto to flinch but eases when Dad pats Kakuto's head.

Mom: So don't ever say you're worthless. Because you mean the world to us, both you and Shizuha

Kakuto: Mom...Dad...Thank you!

Kakuto then embraced Mom and Dad, surprising them before hugging back along with me

Kakuto: I love you guys.

Dad: We love you too, son.

Mom: Now who's up for dinner?

Shizuha: Ooh! Me! I'm starving.

Kakuto: *chuckle* Aren't you always?

Shizuha: Shut it!

Flashback end (3rd POV)

Junko: I'm Glad...

Shizuha: Hmm?

Junko: I'm glad that he can finally have a place where he could belong, and as long as he's happy. I'm happy

Shizuha: Don't be so down. As I see it he's happy that he can see you again, and I know just how special you are to him

Junko: You think so!?

Shizuha: I know so

Junko: *smile* Thank goodness

Kakuto: *knock* Hey, you guys ready to go?

Junko: Y-Yeah, we're just about ready.

Kakuto: Cool, we're heading to Hangar now.

Shizuha: Well, we shouldn't keep them waiting then.

The ride to the mission was intriguing for Shizuha and the others, to say the least, everyone was keeping to themselves due to Phoebe's presence and with every twitch, Daniel gets startled.

Oda: So Phoebe...where did you grow up?

Phoebe: On the new civilization of Sparta

Oda: That's nice, I'm from-

Phoebe: I've heard everything about all of you before mission briefing

Shizuha; Umm...what do you enjoy doing?

Phoebe: Training and getting stronger

Shizuha: Do you have any hobbies?

Phoebe: I don't partake in any meaningless activities.

As Oda and Shizuha try to make a good conversation with Phoebe. Kakuto, Junko, and Daniel are watching the awkward situation that is unveiling

Daniel: Man, she sure doesn't like us a lot, huh?

Junko: I mean honestly, She's acting like a total snob

Kakuto: Kinda reminds me of you almost.

Junko: Huh!? I've never acted like that in my life

Kakuto: yeah, sure...

PA: Approaching drop zone, ETA: 30 seconds

Phoebe: Let's stop the idle chatter and head out.

She said coldly as she stood from her seat and gathered her equipment

Kakuto: *pats Oda's shoulder* You'll get her next time.

Daniel: Yeah, there's always next time...I hope so hehe

Oda: I guess you're right...

They landed at their destination and their eyes were shining in pure excitement seeing neo-Tokyo

As they stepped out of their aircraft, they were met by the landscape of the city, along with the greeneries surrounding it along with the bodies of water accompanying the many architectures as if a part of the structure itself

Daniel: So where are we gonna stay?

Oda: Luckily, Chrysti gave us the coordinates to where we will spend our lodgings as well as paying for our stay.

Shizuha: well, why don't we explore around a bit?

Daniel: oh! Good Idea

Phoebe: Pass, I would like to set up my room quickly so that I may train for our upcoming mission.

Kakuto: You can do that tomorrow, Phoebe. Our mission isn't till next week, just think of this as scouting out the place just in case we might need to evacuate everyone.

Phoebe: I guess when you put it that way...Very well, I will go along with this

Oda and his team then began exploring Neo-Tokyo, admiring its aromatic cuisines, wonderful buildings, and the culture of its people. After admiring everything the city has to offer, it was nighttime as they finally managed to reach their destination.

They arrived at a worn-down inn, paint is worn off, its former bright red accents have lost their vibrant shine, the sign outside of the inn have seen worse for wares, having a few knife scratches, the doorknob has rust around. All in all a questionable establishment along with the loud noises coming inside and the uncomfortable atmosphere around it caused the others to be unsure about their destination.

Junko: Uhh, Oda? Are you sure this is the place?

Oda: Yes...we followed the coordinates precisely

Daniel: Can we find some other place we could stay?

As the others are fumbling with uneasiness, Phoebe just nonchalantly walks towards the front door.

Shizuha: Hey, Phoebe, are you sure about going in there?

Phoebe: A warrior must have the ability to sleep in any environment, plus I don't believe we have anywhere else that we can go

Kakuto: Actually, I think I have a place in mind

Junko: Hmm? What are you-? you mean there?

Daniel: Huh? what are you two talking about?

Kakuto: I think it's better if we just showed you

Oda: Do you think the innkeeper would let us stay at this hour?

Kakuto: I think the "innkeeper" would be fine with it seeing as though two of his regulars are coming back.

Shizuha POV

Sometimes I don't get Kakuto, he always seems to be living in his own world. When he said that he said that he knows a place we could stay we were hesitant at first but soon followed when we saw that he and Junko were already ahead.

While we are on our way to our new inn Kakuto and Junko are going back and forth about whether this was a good idea but soon calmed down in the end when he assures her that everything will be alright.

A few more minutes of walking before Kakuto and Junko suddenly stopped in front of a large mountain

Daniel: Are we there already?

Kakuto: Yep, we're here

Oda: The mountain?

Junko: Right...they can't see it cause of the barrier

Kakuto: Oh yeah...man seeing this temple is quite jarring to be honest

Shizuha: Temple? Kakuto, maybe you're just tired. come on let's just go back

I was about to reach out to him when he pushed his hand forward as I and the others were shocked that his hand just disappeared. I was about to bring it up when he and Junko walked forward before disappearing into thin air.

We were bewildered until Kakuto poked his head out startling us

Kakuto: What are you guys waiting for? Come on in

We looked at each other unsure whether to trust him until I decided to do the leap of faith and walk forward. As I walk forward I slowly saw a large Temple lit with lanterns atop the mountains and in front were steps leading to the said temple, as I marveled at its beauty Daniel, Oda and Phoebe finally followed as they too looked amazed by the temple

Kakuto: Beautiful, isn't it?

Oda: I've never seen anything like this. How did you know such a place?

Kakuto: This is where Junko and I met. Why don't we go in?

He then began leading us atop the stairs and to the temple, as we were hiking up the stairs Kakuto abruptly stop and looked to the trees around us.

Kakuto: If anyone is hiding over there, come out now!

After he called them out, a group of ninjas jump down from the trees and surrounded us causing us to form a defensive circle

Ninja #1: State your business, Outsider!

Kakuto: We have come to meet the Grandmaster

Daniel: *whisper* Grandmaster!?

Ninja #1: *looks at Junko* I see you have brought the dark dragon. *approaches slowly* We will take her off your hand so you may leave

Kakuto: *steps in front* We're not handing over anything

Ninja #1: I wasn't asking for your opinion!

The ninja then pulled out his Chain sickle and lunged at Kakuto who dashed at him as well. The ninja spun his weapon before throwing it at Kakuto which he dodged before grabbing the chain, causing him to stumble forward due to the ninja pulling the chain of his weapon back hard.

Kakuto used his momentum to do a crescent downward kick forcing the ninja to loosen his grip on his weapon making it easy for Kakuto to pull it away from him. He then spun the chain around the ninja's ankle and trips him over before pulling it towards him, he then wrapped the rest of the chain around one of the ninja's arms and pulled it across his chest as Kakuto puts him on a chokehold.

Seeing this, the rest of the ninjas surrounding us were about to jump in and help until we heard a loud thump. we looked higher up the stairs to see an old man with a long beard, a wooden cane, and a black cloak with 風の道 printed on its back.

Seeing this Kakuto lets go of the ninja as he and the other ninjas knelt down

Ninjas: Master Jinpen!

Jinpen: What is the meaning of this?

Ninja #1: Master Jinpen, these outsiders have stumbled upon our sacred temple

Kakuto: Outsiders? Is that what we're called now?

Ninja #1: Hold your tongue! You're in the presence of the masters of our arts.

Jinpen: Kakuto, how are you?

Ninja # 1: *shocked* Master, do you know this outsider?

Jinpen: Of course, he is the prodigy that has brought change to our ways

Kakuto: Hehe...Prodigy is a bit much. Oh, speaking of, I also have someone you might want to see

Junko: *sheepishly* Umm...hello, Master Jinpen

Jinpen: Junko? Is that really you?

Junko: *bow* Yes master, it is I

Jinpen: I see that the blight of darkness is no longer within you.

Junko: It is, thanks to Kakuto.

Jinpen: And who are the rest of your companions?

Kakuto: Our teammates, we came here to ask for a place to stay. At least for a week.

Jinpen: Hmm...I'm afraid you'll have to ask the Grandmaster for his approval. Come, I'll lead you to him

Ninja #1: Wait, master! are you just gonna let them-

Jinpen: That is enough. They are no longer outsiders, they are our guests, please treat them with respect.

Ninja #1: *bow* Very well *To Kakuto and his team* Come follow us

Daniel: Well that was a huge change in attitude

Ninja #1: If Master deems it so, it shall be done as ordered. Now if you please follow us to the temple

We followed Master Jinpen and the ninjas atop the stairs to the temple, and once we reached the top we were surprised to see a lot of people in the temple. Kids in robes are running around as their parents watch from the sidelines. The temple itself is decorated with lanterns, and torches around four large and long tables that hold a variety of food, like they're holding a feast.

Kakuto: I'll go talk to the Grandmaster and asked if we could stay for the week. You guys enjoy yourselves.

He then left with Master Jinpen leaving with just the rest of us.

Daniel: Well I don't know about you guys but I'm hungry!

Oda: Yes, let's try to enjoy ourselves

Shizuha: You think it'll be alright?

Junko: We'd stand out if we didn't.

Shizuha: I guess you're right.

With that, we scattered to different tables grabbing some food and adding it to our plate before meeting up and eating together.

Timeskip

I was fixing a plate for Kakuto, seeing as he hasn't come back yet. The Feast has ended as the residents were talking amongst themselves or cleaning up as the kids began playing again. Once I finished prepping Kakuto's meal, I saw Junko doing the same thing so I decided to approach her

Shizuha: Boo!

Junko: Aahh! gosh you startled me

Shizuha: Guess we had the same idea

Junko: I guess so

Shizuha: Do you know where he could've gone?

Junko: I think he might still be talking to the grandmaster. Come on, follow me

I did as she said as we went inside on what looks to be the main building of the temple. I took this time to admire the interior of the building, from the polished wooden floor to the red pillars on the side of the hall. After I admired the interior design we then stopped in front of a large wooden door with metal reinforcements. Junko was about to knock on the door when it suddenly opened and Kakuto stepped out as he thanked the person inside who I'm guessing to be the grandmaster before looking at us surprised

Kakuto: Is the feast over already?

Junko: Yep

Kakuto: Dang, maybe if I hurry I could get some leftovers on the table

Shizuha: Don't worry, me and Junko already decided to save you some. Here you go

Kakuto: *accepts plate* Thank you! You guys are lifesavers

Junko: So what did the Grandmaster say?

Kakuto: He said to stay for as long as we need to. We can even use the old dormitory, no one has moved there yet so we could use that

Shizuha: We should tell the others.
