“The attorneys for the foundation will be filing suit against the Reverend Wilson in a few weeks,” Mason said. “They’re planning on naming the church as well.”

“How do you think it will play out, Charles?” Philip said.

“There are too many variables to make an accurate call right now,” I said. “A lot depends on how many fundamentalists the foundation’s attorney can keep off the jury. Ask me that question after a jury has been selected and opening arguments have begun and I might be able to make an educated guess.”

The boys excused themselves to go to their room, and Gran said good night shortly thereafter.

Philip asked Marie if she’d thought about dating since her divorce, and she said, “I’ve thought about it, but I’m not ready for that yet. It’s too soon.”

“You know what they say about falling off a horse,” Philip said.
