Tricking The Vampire King

‘I became the Vampire King’s chamberlain!’ ‘He thinks I’m a man!?’ ___ The evening that Reina Gomez experienced one of the biggest betrayals in her life was the day her life came to an end. Helping her elder sister, a three times failed author, in her research for her next project had turned out to be the cause of her demise. The efforts she had put in to teach her sister everything that she knew was not repaid with gratitude. The day of the new book’s release brought sorrow to Reina who had high expectations from the project that she had lent her support in. No matter how many times she refreshed the novel’s site, the result was the same. “Where the heck is the BL tag!?” She cried out for answers but to no avail. Her sister who had learned everything there is to know about BL for the new book had done something unexpected. ‘She wrote a frickin vanilla Vampire love story instead!’ She sniffled while finding solace in the one thing that never disappointed her. Her blurry eyes fell on the cover of the novel and her scowl deepened. The petite woman with cotton-candy colored hair surrounded by three breathtakingly handsome men was not something that she was hoping for. ‘Stupid reverse harem.’ She sneered while chugging the contents of the bottle. Her eyes shut that night only to awaken in a different room the next morning. From a drunken daze to panic at what had taken place, Reina soon realized what was wrong. The images flashing across her eyes displayed a life that was not her own. ‘Memories…’ She deciphered the meaning of these images. Staring at the new face in the mirror, Reina blinked those icy blue eyes as a name formed in her mind. ‘Rein Melk… The Vampire King’s chamberlain.’ She repeated the identity of the new body she was in. Was it not enough that she was in a different world, in a different body? She now had to pretend to be the King’s loyal servant. ‘A manservant at that!’ She grimaced as her new life seemed too hard to live. Tricking the Vampire King never was an easy task but doing so while possessing jumbled memories of this body was way harder. __ As days passed, Reina began to adjust to the world, living in the body of Rein Melk. However, she began noticing something strange. ‘Why do these men seem so familiar?’ She wondered while gawking at the three handsome men she was sure to have seen somewhere in the past. The pretty lady with pink hair further brought up a sense of deja vu. ‘Wait…!’ Her eyes widened when it finally clicked. __ With a large chunk of her memories still missing, will she be able to discover everything about the body she possessed? A nameless cannon fodder in the story her sister wrote, was that her fate now? Was the identity of Rein Melk as simple as a servant concealing her true gender or was there more at play here? Numerous questions with answers yet to be obtained. This was the life of Rein Melk, the one tricking the Vampire King.

Test Subject

Reina was thoroughly shocked after hearing about the vice which her predecessor seemed to have.

She did not know what kind of pills Rein used to pop but considering how she felt that strange urge last night, she was sure that now she had also acquired that vice.

After all, she now possessed Rein Melk's body so it was not surprising that she too had the same issues that Rein had.

'Will I be able to break free from the clutches of this ill habit?' She was worried about the health of her body now.

With such troubling thoughts in her head, Reina was trying to recall what she needed to do so that she might reduce the side effects of this habit.

'Detox? Should I try to detox?' She mulled over what needed to be done next.

However, while she was trying to figure out what she should do to help phase her out of this habit, the old man seated opposite her was staring at her while rubbing his chin in contemplation.

Snapping out of his thoughts, Doctor Bundt had his eyes widened as though he had just been enlightened.

"Rein, young lad!" He called out, scaring poor Reina out of reverie.

With her shoulders jumping after getting startled by the old man's enthusiastic voice, Reina turned and looked in his way.

Her eyes narrowed and she tilted her head while observing his joyful expression.

'I'm worried that I might have an addiction here but don't you seem a little too happy about it?' She grumbled while waiting for him to finally speak up.

The old man chuckled when he saw the suspicious look on the young vampire's face then hurried to put on an innocent but appeasing expression which only made him look more sketchy in Reina's eyes.

"Would you like to be the test subject for my experiment?" He proposed and gazed at her with an eager look in his eyes.

His dull eyes due to his old age were now sparkling with renewed vigor as he waited for the young lad to give his approval.

However, much to his chagrin, he neither got a positive nor negative reply from Rein.

"What experiment?" Reina was cautious as she could not trust anyone in this Palace.

Other than the King and the Butler who wasn't in the Palace right now, there wasn't a third soul who treated her predecessor with kindness.

Despite the King's cold gaze and stern commands, he never demeaned Rein and the Butler of this Palace often also checked in on Rein during work hours.

Thus, excluding those two, Reina was determined not to lower her guard in anyone else's presence.

The only reason she was without a care in the world right now was that the King had commanded this old man to treat her until she was perfectly fine and fit to continue with her daily chores.

Therefore, she did not doubt the medicines that he must have brought with him.

If things were to go wrong then Doctor Bundt would be the one facing the King's mighty wrath.

'And get snapped into a pool of blood.' She grimaced when the image of Lady Marin's maid ending up in a splatter of blood flashed across her eyes like a bad jump scare.

Shaking her head, she dismissed those terrifying thoughts from her head.

This gesture of hers was mistaken as a rejection in Doctor Bundt's eyes.

Succeeding in making him anxious as he needed someone to be his test subject but had not yet found anyone with the particular qualities that he was looking for.

When Rein divulged the issue he faced last night, Doctor Bundt observed his body for a second and was overjoyed that he had finally found someone who fit all the requirements he expected in a person on whom he could test his new medicine.

"You do not have to worry about anything going wrong." He thumped his chest to assure the youngster as there truly was no side effect from his medicines.

At long last, he had found a suitable test subject which made him extremely unwilling to let this opportunity slip out of his fingers.

Reina wasn't willing to risk her life which she had already lost once for the sake of an experimental drug whose uses she knew nothing of.

So when she heard him speaking up in favor of the medicine he had created, she felt the urge to roll her eyes but held it in.

"Then why do you even need me?" Reina retorted with a blank look on her face which stunned the Royal physician.

If there was nothing wrong with the medicine like he claimed, then there should be no necessity for him to test it on an experimental subject.

An awkward chuckle was heard coming from the old man as he rubbed his nose, looking a little hesitant to speak what was on his mind.

However, Reina had her adamant gaze aimed at him.

They had enjoyed their previous conversation which lasted for over two hours so she knew that he was not someone who couldn't continue a conversation.

This made her wonder if there was something he was not comfortable speaking.

Just as she had speculated, Doctor Bundt's ears turned red as he tried to spill the words which were stuck in his throat.

"Y-you… You see, lad…" He stuttered and stammered around, causing Reina to reach the end of her limited patience.

"What is it, Doctor Bundt?" She nudged him on, frowning that he was making her wait for so long.

Steeling himself for what he was about to say, the old physician inhaled deeply before locking eyes with the younger man.

"You are the perfect subject because you are still pure!" He blurted out the words he had been meaning to say for so long but was uncomfortable with letting it out.

Reina almost choked when she heard his words, causing her cheeks to burn and her eyes turned teary as she coughed incessantly.

'P-pure!?' She widened her eyes, ignoring the burning sensation in her throat as she glared at him.

He wished to use her as a test subject and the reason why she was perfect for this job was due to her 'purity'!?

The image of the good old doctor sitting in front of her, in Reina's eyes, had now turned into a pervert wanting to experiment on her due to her purity.

Just a reminder:

Every time the other characters speak or think about our FL, it's always referring to Rein as a 'male'.

Please do not think that I've messed up the genders. I'm doing it on purpose.

The others believe Rein to be a man and will treat her in that way until they learn the truth. (Whenever that might be! xD)

More chapters will be up today so enjoy!
