Chapter 31

Dyson's loss was somewhat expected. Bulbasaur could take an attack thanks to it resistance. However, it did not have a way to damage raichu which lead to its defeat.

This battle made Chris nervous about his upcoming battle.

The class spent the rest of the day with Surge finishing up the tour of the gym, explaining what made his gym different from others.

The next day they met up at the battle area again, this time it was Wendell facing Surge.

Surge sent out voltorb while sent out an ekans.

Pokemon: Ekans

Ability: Shed skin

Stage: Rookie

Mastery: Poison 30%, Normal 20%, Dark 2%

"Poison sting."

"Spark."

Ekans shot poison needles at the rolling voltorb. The attack bounced off voltorb and voltorb collided with ekans. Ekans had been paralyzed. Another spark was enough to take it out.

Wendell called sandslash next.

Pokemon: Sandslash

Ability: Sand veil

Stage: Advanced

Mastery: Ground 56%, Normal 38%, Rock 22%, Poison 3%, Bug 2%

Ekans was clearly just there to fill a spot in Wendell's team. This is where the real fight began.

"Self destruct."

Seeing there was no hope for voltorb to damage the advance ranked sandslash, Surge went for voltorb's strongest move.

An explosion of normal energy swept the battlefield. Voltorb had fainted and sandslash was nowhere to be seen. There was a hole in the ground that sandslash came out of. The attack had been avoided with dig.

Next up was magnemite.

"Bulldoze."

"Mirror shot."

Sandslash was immune to thunder wave or any other electric moves. Sandslash covered itself in ground energy and charged at magnemite. Magnemite attacked with mirror shot that hit the ground energy wrapping around sandslash, reducing it a bit but the overall situation did not change.

Magnemite held on with sturdy but sandslash took it out with another attack.

Finally, Surge called out raichu.

"Bulldoze."

Sandslash fearlessly charged at sandslash.

"Slam."

Raichu moved aside, causing sandslash to miss. Raichu spun, its tail coated in normal energy slammed at sandslash's back.

"Quick attack."

As sandlslash was getting up, raichu charged at a high speed and slammed into sandslash.

"Dig."

Sandslash dug a hole and went underground.

"Jump and slam."

Raichu jumped in the air. As raichu was falling down, sandslash came out of the ground coated in ground energy ready to attack the falling raichu. Raichu wrapped its tail in normal energy and spun its body causing its tail to collide with sandslash. Distance was created between both pokemon and they landed on the round. As raichu touched the round, surge gave another command.

"Quick attack."

Raichu tackled sandslash at a speed at which sandslash couldn't react. The damage it took added up, causing it to get knocked out.

Wendell called sandslash back to its pokeball and sent out gloom.

Pokemon: Gloom

Ability: Chlorophyll

Stage: Advanced

Mastery: Grass 71%, Poison 55%, Normal 20%, Fire 3%

"Mega drain."

"Thunderbolt."

Gloom shot a green orb at raichu that was destroyed by the thunderbolt.

"Sunny day."

An orange orb was shot in the air that hovered above the battlefield like a mini sun.

"Slam."

Raichu took the opportunity to land an easy hit on gloom, knocking it back.

"Solar beam."

Thanks to sunny day, the attack was immediately charged.

"Thunderbolt"

A powerful beam collided with the thunderbolt, tearing through it and landing on raichu. Raichu was knocked out. Wendell had won the match.

Today the class finished the gym tour and asked any questions they had relating to the workings of gyms.

The next day, Chris fought against Surge.

Unfortunately, voltorb countered his entire team. Pichu did not have ways to damage it, metapod would be destroyed by rollout and squirtle had no answer to spark. In the end, expecting a new trainer with new rookie pokemon to defeat the third gym was expecting too much.

The class was then taken to a nearby port to showcase how the city worked. The following day they set off back to Pallet city from where all students went to their homes. The school was now closed off until the final exams.
