Chapter 58: We Are Different _1

Chu Xu looked at the sky and murmured, "Give me a cigarette."

Jiang Yu took out a cigarette and put it to the corner of Chu Xu's mouth.

Chu Xu wanted to take a deep drag, but due to shortness of breath, only managed a small puff.

A doctor saw Jiang Yu giving the cigarette and hurried over to remind him, "Young man, you..."

Shi Qiang waved his hand at the doctor, signaling him not to interfere.

The doctor didn't say anything more, realizing that the young girl didn't have much time left.

After taking a couple of puffs, Jiang Yu held the cigarette with blood foam on the filter in his hand, letting her rest.

Chu Xu said again, "I didn't want my dad to know where I was while I was alive, and after I die, I don't want him to know where I'm buried either."

Jiang Yu nodded, "I will bury you in a public cemetery, where no one but me can find you."

As he spoke, he handed the cigarette back to Chu Xu for another puff.

Chu Xu said again, "Help me."

Jiang Yu nodded and disconnected the blood transfusion bag and the IV bottle that maintained her breathing.

Chu Xu's breathing became rapid, "Do you think, do you think it's going to hurt when you die?"

"No," Jiang Yu smiled, "It's like falling asleep, it will all be over in an instant."

"Will I go to hell after I die?"

"There's no such thing as hell. Death is just another form of life, without worries, without pain. Your loved ones will always be by your side, never leaving."

Chu Xu cracked a smile, "You, you haven't, haven't died, how do you know?"

Jiang Yu replied, "If you can't see hope while you're alive, you have to have some hope when you're dying."

Chu Xu smiled, took two deep breaths, and then stopped breathing abruptly.

Jiang Yu stood in place, silent for a long time, until the cigarette with blood foam in his hand burned out. Only then did he speak to Shi Qiang, "Da Shi, at her age, she should be in a university campus, falling in love like I did, hanging out with roommates, and discussing poetry collections.

"Even if she didn't want to go to school, to get a job, get married, and have kids on schedule would have been a happy life.

Jiang Yu took out his pack of cigarettes again, but remembering he had already smoked quite a bit that day, he put the pack back in his pocket mid-motion, "I hope I can get her ashes.

"If her family couldn't be there to see her off on her last journey, then I will."

Shi Qiang nodded, "No problem."

Jiang Yu continued, "I hope to see Principal Chang as soon as possible."

If it weren't for taking Jiang Yu to see Chang Weisi, he would have gone to the hospital by now.

Just as the two got in the car, Jiang Yu saw Kalo among the prisoners by the car.

When the armed police burst into the cafeteria, Ye Wenjie had only killed Pan Han Liwei and hadn't had the chance to deal with Kalo and the others.

Jiang Yu stopped getting into the car and asked the armed police, "Did you find anything strange on her?"

Under Shi Qiang's instruction, the armed policeman said, "We only did a simple search and didn't find any weapons."

Jiang Yu said to Kalo, "Stand up; I'm going to search you."

Kalo angrily retorted, "You degenerate!"

Jiang Yu, while reaching for Kalo's pockets, laughed and said, "I return the compliment."

As he expected, he indeed found a small plug-in device in the pocket of Kalo's trousers.

Jiang Yu plugged the device into his phone and waved it in front of Kalo.

Kalo was surprised; she had intended to find the right moment to dispose of the device.

She never expected Jiang Yu to find it, let alone know how to use it!

That Jiang Yu knew how to use it naturally meant the device in Kalo's possession was identical to the small one given to him by Sixteen.

Jiang Yu had asked a professor of communication engineering at the school for help, who said the device could directly hack into communication satellites and contact specified people.

The device was covert enough that phone calls made with it would leave no record on mobile phones or with the telecom company, and the contents of the calls couldn't be eavesdropped on.

However, it wasn't usually needed because it consumed a lot of power and could easily crash the system.

After getting into the car, Jiang Yu dialed the number that was on the home screen.

He used video calling and soon, Mike Evans, blond and blue-eyed with a short beard, appeared on the screen.

When the video call first connected, Evans had a smile on his face, but the smile disappeared instantly when he saw Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu asked with a smile, "Leader, don't you want to ask why the device your subordinate used to contact you directly is in my hands?

Then he burst into laughter. "The person you sent was too stupid; couldn't last a single round in my hands!"

Evans ignored Jiang Yu's roaring laughter and asked coldly, "Have you defected to the Redemptionists?"

Today, Kalo attended a Redemptionist gathering, and ended up in an unfortunate situation. Naturally, he would think so.

"Leader, don't be so cold!" Jiang Yu said with a grin. "Didn't I earn merits before and get a chance to talk with the leader? Let's have a good chat today."

Evans gritted his teeth and said, "Kong Xiang was blind to trust your smooth talk and let you live to this day! You are the shame of the Adventists!

"Humanity really is hopeless, committing all sorts of treacherous and deceitful acts every day. Even the most common fish in the sea is a hundred times more noble than you."

Jiang Yu laughed and said, "My dear leader, spare me your reactionary nonsense.

"Your set of ideas might hoodwink people in the West, but in the East, nobody gives a damn!

"Let me tell you, over three thousand years ago, the Duke of Zhou, Dan, while governing China, established that 'humans are the noblest of spirits,' to distinguish people from beasts.

"The West, however, has focused all its energy on natural philosophy, rarely considering human relations, social relations.

"To put it to you this way, until now you still haven't any ideological system that differentiates you from animals, which is why you have your damn 'species communism.'

"Let me tell you, I'm not buying your crap."

Evans laughed coldly and said, "This is a contempt for life and freedom! Life itself is equal; it's not up to you to put humanity on a pedestal with just a few words.

"No species has the right to lord over others. One day, when humanity no longer has the power to dominate, you fools will understand the value of life!"

"Quit your mother's nonsense!" Jiang Yu had long wanted to curse Evans out like this. He swore in Chinese because he couldn't think of how to say it in English at the moment.

Da Shi and the other two policemen were listening intently at their side. They didn't quite understand why Jiang Yu suddenly started cursing with the foreigner on the phone, but Jiang Yu's words sounded very spirited and pleasant.

Jiang Yu denounced, "Your actions are a complete betrayal of all humanity, past and present!

"Our ancestors toiled through brambles and thorns, and humanity eventually evolved to where we are today, allowing us to enjoy the benefits of evolution. Where do you place the efforts of generations of humans?"
