The images of the "unstuck" two-dimensional foil were transmitted to every shelter world, and everyone was stunned.
Before this, they still harbored a last shred of hope: The Solar System State had made a mistake!
But now, even that last hope was shattered!
The sun was about to become a huge painting, and not a single life from the Solar System would be able to escape.
The already chaotic shelter worlds became even more so.
Why hadn't the rescue promised by the Wallfacer come yet? Did the Solar System State really have so many spaceships to take everyone away?
The chaos from before had long cut off everyone from outside information. If they could see the power of the "Octopus Spaceships," there wouldn't be so many doubts.
Some insiders also panicked because the Solar System State had been moving its property in an unhurried manner for the past few days, with no intention of coming to rescue anyone.
Did their earlier promises still count?
The people who had fled earlier were essentially all top management from big companies. They had sufficient resources and enough money to support their escape.
Some of them headed in the direction of the Solar System State's Space City, but a large portion were still unwilling to give up their property and status.
Moreover, being long in business had made them trust no one's words, not even those of the Wallfacer Jiang Yu. Since Jiang Yu had told them to stay at home, they insisted on doing the opposite. Now they were flying towards the outskirts of the Solar System.
They were convinced that the two-dimensional foil was still far from them, and that they could definitely escape.
Most of the Federation Government's officials had chosen to follow Jiang Yu's arrangements at the beginning.
As the most fully informed, they could make the quickest and most accurate decisions.
The truth is, being accustomed to ideological struggles, they trusted no one, and based on their experience, they believed Jiang Yu's words were not entirely reliable.
Moreover, they thought Jiang Yu's eagerness to save everyone must have a hidden agenda or that he would demand a sky-high price.
The reason they could temporarily believe Jiang Yu was first waiting for Jiang Yu to come and negotiate terms with them, and second, because the Solar System State had more than thirty million people left to evacuate. They knew the Governing Council of the Solar System State wouldn't abandon these people.
But now things were different. The people of the Solar System State were already on their way out of the Solar System.
Although those space cities were extremely large, it was expected that within the next ten or so days, the "Octopus Spaceships" could push them into a state of light-speed travel.
The key issue was that Jiang Yu had not come to negotiate terms with them, which made them increasingly uneasy.
Now most officials were wavering. They boarded spaceships they had hidden away long ago and hurried to catch up with the space cities of the Solar System State that had not yet gone far.
It was possible that Jiang Yu, to keep them stable and not disrupt the orderly evacuation of the Solar System State, had spread an enormous lie.
No one would confront Jiang Yu with this lie, because in a few days, all the people of the Solar System Federation would become mere paintings!
They hoped to negotiate terms face to face with the Governing Council of the Solar System State, only when a deal was struck would they feel at ease.
For this round of negotiations, they were full of confidence, because the "Octopus Spaceships" that had taken away those space cities could clearly have carried all the people of the Solar System Federation, but instead, they preferred to leave them empty rather than offer humanitarian aid.
This was where the Solar System State was in the wrong!
At this moment, the shelter worlds were essentially left with only the common people who had neither money nor power.
They had almost given up completely, because in their eyes, no one had ever given them any hope of survival.
At this time, the notifications sent by the Solar System State to the various shelter worlds were almost entirely ignored.
The Solar System State had told each shelter world to prepare for weightlessness, especially to ensure that facilities like open-air pools were under control.
Because if Space City were to lose gravity, water would float out of the pools, which could drown many people and also damage the life support system of Space City.
But now, no one was paying attention to these concerns. Some began their final revelries, while others summoned the courage to confess to people they had secretly loved, hoping to spend their last moments in passion.
Others could not withstand the pressure and chose to commit suicide.
Some even seized the shelter world's power system, desperately trying to fly out into outer space.
However, the power of the shelter worlds was too feeble to escape Jupiter's gravity.
...
As chaos reigned in the shelter worlds, two events occurred in Neptune's orbit.
First was the official commencement of Cheng Xin's banishment. Now, calculating a safe distance was no longer necessary; the "Exile" simply began its curvature acceleration from Neptune's orbit.
Cheng Xin lay against the porthole, gazing longingly at the distant Sun. With this departure, she would never have the chance to see the Sun that had nurtured humanity again, nor could she return to the human cradle of the Solar System.
The entire Solar System was about to be destroyed and become part of a new dimension.
Cheng Xin yearned, but her actions were not up to her.
The second event was that more than eighty Solar System State spacecraft formed a massive "encirclement" around the Two-Dimensional Fragment within a radius of one hundred thousand kilometers.
Then, these spacecraft exerted their force together to create a black hole at the location of the Two-Dimensional Fragment, hoping to trap the Two-dimensional foil with the black hole's gravitational pull.
The Solar System State was by then capable of using dark matter to create black holes with the mass of Jupiter and maintain them for a period of time.
Yet the formidable suction of such a large black hole failed to prevent the expansion of the Two-Dimensional Fragment.
The Two-Dimensional Fragment merely slowed down temporarily but soon engulfed the black hole as well.
Seeing this, Kent ordered the activation of the repulsive field, using gravitational forces to directly counter the expansion of the Two-Dimensional Fragment.
Then he said to Galaxy III, "Record this, the black hole experiment indirectly proves that ordinary black holes exist only in three-dimensional space."
"This again confirms that Jiang Shiliu's theoretical model is correct. The center of a small black hole is distinctly different from zero-dimensions.
"For example, a black hole the size of Jupiter would have a Schwarzschild radius of around three meters, and black holes formed from dark matter tend to evaporate easily.
"Zero-dimensions, however, is merely a point, without space, without time, without any standards of measurement.
"Only by finding a way to create zero-dimensions can we completely end the expansion of low-dimensional space. Black holes are not the solution, but we cannot currently exclude the possibility that supermassive black holes might be effective."
At this moment, Kent was filled with countless emotions, because Jiang Shiliu had proposed the theory that small black holes were ineffective against low-dimensional fragments half a century ago.
People still believed today that if the singularity of a black hole could be properly utilized, it might achieve the effect of zero-dimensions.
Thus, this experiment was conducted, which ended yet again in failure.
At that point, Galaxy III said, "The repulsive field has been successfully generated, and we have observed the expansion of the Two-Dimensional Fragment starting to slow down."
Kent breathed a sigh of relief, but after some quick calculations, his expression grew solemn again: "Report upwards, the effect of the second round of experiments is far from what was anticipated, we can only stall the expansion of the Two-Dimensional Fragment for another two days and six hours!"
