"There will soon be no form of warfare within the Solar System," the voice on the other end was without a ripple, "I make this judgement simply because I don't want to waste time on you.
"Believe me, time is extremely critical for all of humanity right now, and in the future, you will regret wasting every minute and second at present.
"Alright, the countdown has started.
"Oh, by the way, I should remind you that we have a total of twelve warships, each equipped with two main cannons capable of antimatter attacks.
"Based on our calculations, about 3.2 seconds after the battle starts, your spaceship will be destroyed, and no one will survive."
Bai Ice retorted, "Aren't you afraid of damaging the Two-dimensional foil, 'the piece of paper' as you call it, with such a reckless attack?"
"Have you not realized yet?" the other side chuckled lightly, "The Two-dimensional foil is massless, it can't interact with antimatter in any way.
"Only nine and a half minutes left, you better think it over quickly."
After speaking, the communication was cut off.
Vasily gritted his teeth with hatred, "This is too bullying!"
"General, let's fight them!" the soldiers clamored for battle:
"We have antimatter weapons too, we're not afraid of them!"
"Why should they be allowed to experiment, and we can't?"
Vasily's face turned beet red, but in the end, he deflated like a punctured ball, "None of us can bear the responsibility for starting a war."
"Accelerate, get away from the piece of paper!"
As a high-level candidate of the Solar System Federation, he naturally knew how fragile the federation's warships were compared to those of the Solar System State.
The time given by the other side was not enough to seek instructions from higher-ups, and if this led to a standoff with the Solar System State, Vasily figured he would once again be made the scapegoat.
Although the soldiers were indignant, they still had to follow Vasily's orders.
However, Bai Ice said, "We could offer to let them have the piece of paper in exchange for a joint research effort."
Vasily thought that was a good idea, so he ordered the communications officer to contact the other side.
The other side still only accepted a voice call, and after the connection was made, the people in the captain's room heard the opponent's magnetic voice again, "You have six minutes left!"
Vasily hurriedly stated the proposal for cooperation.
However, the other side said, "The information is not symmetrical, there is absolutely no need for cooperation."
Bai Ice said, "We have been researching for over twenty hours!"
"Before the Two-dimensional foil enters the Kuiper Belt, we..." the other side suddenly paused, "Wait, are you Professor Bai Aisi?"
Bai Ice was startled, "Bai Aisi is indeed a name I've used during the Crisis Era."
"Please wait, I need to consult with my superiors." There was silence on the other end.
Vasily exchanged a glance with Bai Ice, smiling at the unexpected turn of events.
Vasily said with a smile, "Indeed, science knows no borders. It seems Professor Bai is also a well-known scholar in the Solar System State."
But Bai Ice shook her head, "Given the level of technology in the Solar System State, they are far ahead of us."
"Then, why did he suddenly change his mind?" Vasily asked the question many were pondering.
"I remember..." Bai Ice herself seemed uncertain, "I remember my mentor saying that he was close friends and romantic rivals with Wallfacer Jiang Yu.
"Could it be this relationship that made them hesitate?"
Vasily stroked his chin, "It's very possible. I've always heard Wallfacer Jiang Yu is a person who values emotions deeply.
"Since you are a favored disciple of Teacher Ding Yi, you should be treated specially by the Solar System State."
No sooner had these words been spoken than the communication was reconnected, and the other party said, "The higher-ups have agreed to your request for cooperation, but the cooperation will be led by us since we know much more information than you do."
Such terms were acceptable, after all, as long as the cooperative relationship existed, all research outcomes would be shared by both parties.
The other party then said, "However, I still have to remind you that the chances of our enclosed experiment succeeding are not great, and when that time comes, your situation will be very dangerous."
Vasily said, "Aren't you facing the same danger? If you're not afraid, neither are we."
The other party, however, said, "We are different."
Before Vasily could further inquire, the other party continued, "Please leave the position of the Two-dimensional foil, as our laboratory is much more advanced than yours.
"You will be able to board our flagship later; I have been authorized to share some information with you."
Vasily ordered the spaceship to accelerate, allowing the Two-dimensional foil to pass through the hull and reappear in space.
Through the ship's radar and cameras, the people in the cockpit saw a fleet approaching; they had a total of thirteen warships.
One of the ships, a small vessel, looked a bit like a capsule and was clearly different in design from the other vessels.
Their deceleration was very quick, like hitting the brakes; maintaining a very high speed, they suddenly slowed down to a speed close to that of the foil when they were not far from it.
A mechanical arm extended from the lead warship, with something resembling a box at the end, obviously intended to capture the foil.
Just as Bai Ice was about to remind them that it was impossible to touch any of the foils, everyone witnessed a shocking scene:
After the foil entered the box, the mechanical arm closed the lid, and then it began to retract, and the foil didn't go through the box!
As the mechanical arm retracted step by step, the foil was brought into the interior of the ship with the box.
Everyone was so shocked that they were speechless; after a while, Vasily said, "Many people have said that the technology of the Solar System State has developed to a level that the Federation cannot match, and I always thought they were exaggerating!
"Now I truly believe it!"
...
Within the fleet of the Solar System State, the small ship that resembled a capsule was called "Exile," the only ship in the Solar System State that was not given a number but a name.
To be precise, it was the space prison that held Cheng Xin.
When Cheng Xin awoke, she found herself in a state of weightlessness.
Her limbs felt weak, her vision was blurred with a myriad of colors, and she could not see her surroundings clearly; the numbness caused by the low temperature of hibernation had not yet worn off.
But unlike previous awakenings, she immediately fell asleep again.
This sleep was incredibly sweet, and when she woke up again, she felt much more comfortable.
She saw a man standing at the porthole ahead, his back to Cheng Xin, looking out
Cheng Xin found her vision had returned: "Where am I now?"
Then she realized she could speak as well.
"On the edge of hell!" As soon as the man spoke, Cheng Xin recognized him, it was Jiang Yu!
He turned around, and indeed, it was Jiang Yu.
Only now, Jiang Yu had creases on his forehead; although his hair was still dark and thick, for some reason, upon seeing him, Cheng Xin felt a sense of world-weariness.
Jiang Yu asked, "Do you remember the judgment I passed on you before? Do you understand what waking up this time means?"
Cheng Xin was jolted, "The Dark Forest Strike has come!"
