Catherine was first on guard duty, then Joseph was the next in line. When he woke up, she didn't go to sleep but stayed up to speak with him. They sit next to the campfire on two of the sides facing each other.
"So do you want to speak about what happened back there?"
"What do you mean? She just attacked me for no reason what so ever."
Catherine looked at him questioningly.
"She called you a demon while trying to kill you. That seems like a reason."
"I know, but I don't know what she was talking about. I'm not a demon or anything, just a regular human."
"I'm not sure."
"What are you talking about? How could I be a demon? Can't you just check it or something?"
"Sure, but it might hurt."
"How much?"
"I don't really know."
They looked at each other for a few seconds.
"Whatever, try it out."
She stood up and walked up and stayed behind him.
Joseph felt a strange pressure in the air as she touched his back with one hand.
After a few seconds, he felt Catherine's mana flow in his body, then an immense pain flushed through his chest and he started coughing.
As fast as the pain came, it went away and Catherine sat back in her place.
"So?"
Joseph's throat was sore and his voice was somewhat weak as he spoke, but she understood it nonetheless.
"I'm not sure. Your core doesn't seem like a human's, but I wouldn't say that you are definitely a demon. More like mix blood of humans and some other races. Maybe you have some demons in your ancestors? I'm not sure."
Joseph laughed nervously.
'That's practically impossible though. There weren't any other races in the other world... Wait! Is this still the same body, or Silvia gave me the other one?'
He looked at his hands and saw all the naevus he had. They were in the same places as in the other world.
'Maybe it's a copy of the other one, but a totally new one? In mangas, there were a bunch of different ways people got into new worlds. Who knows? Except for Silvia of course...'
"I don't know, maybe."
They sat at the fire for a while, but Catherine got tired and went to sleep.
After a few hours, Joseph woke up Arborus and went to sleep.
The night went by peacefully.
In the morning they continued their travel to the south.
Another short chapter for the novel but trust me, we are closing to the ending, so don't worry about them being short. It's only about a week or two until this part of the story ends.
Until next time!
