Li Chuanmo gently started to do as she asked, "Alright, we'll see how it goes. But if you feel unwell, don't force it."

Pei Yueran smiled slyly, "Who's the one that has been feeling unwell lately? It's certainly not me."

Li Chuanmo grimaced. True, he was the one currently battling severe morning sickness. Doctor Xu had said it was a symptom of Couvade syndrome, which meant that he was experiencing the same pregnancy symptoms as his wife, and his was even higher in proportion.

He could no longer stomach breakfast because the smells made him feel nauseous. In less than a week, Gong Anwei had caught him dozing off twice in the office. It was so unlike him that Gong Anwei was startled.

Not only Pei Yueran, even his parents had made fun of him when they heard, but he took it all in stride. He felt that it was a testament of his love, and he was proud of it.

Pei Yueran grew more relaxed due to his massage and before long, sleep crept in, her chest rising and falling rhythmically.

As Li Chuanmo watched her sleep, he remembered their visit to the doctor, and his lips curved up on their own accord.

"Can you see these two silhouettes? The Young Madam is having twins. It's been twelve weeks. Congratulations once again." Doctor Xu had announced with a flourish.

Both of them had been dumbfounded at his announcement, with Li Chuanmo thinking he must have misheard.

Even now, he still felt overwhelmed. Not one, but two babies?

He had not shown much emotion at the time, only thanking the doctor calmly, but when they got back to the car, he had cried.

He could still remember Pei Yueran's look of surprise at his tears. She had tried patting his back, but before long, she was a sobbing mess herself. It was a good thing that both of them were alone in the car and the windows were tinted.

Passers-by would have thought something terrible happened to them.

Now remembering that scene, he reached to the bedside drawer to take out the printed sonogram. He looked at the two distinct images with tenderness.

The more he saw, the more in love he fell, and the more resolved he became.

He would protect his family from all external disturbances. It was a duty he was obliged and happy to carry out.

Every pest had to be exterminated.

"I'm pregnant."

If Bai Meixiang had told him that she was an alien from another planet sent to destroy his life, it wouldn't have shocked Han Leifeng as badly as her actual statement.

The declaration hit him like a physical force and sent him reeling.

"You're what?"

"Pregnant. I'm carrying your child." Bai Meixiang repeated with the patience of a mother trying to teach her son his homework.

"I know what it means, but how? ...I mean, how come?" He spoke with a deep frown marring his usually indifferent face.

Bai Meixiang lifted a delicately lined brow, "You're asking me how? Why, do you want me to go into all the erotic details? Fine, we were in your apartment one of the many nights and you—"

"Please be serious! I mean, how come you're pregnant so soon?" He asked, bewildered. The air-conditioning in his car where they had decided to meet, suddenly seemed to no longer work.

His back was soaked with sweat.

Bai Meixiang twirled a strand of hair around her finger, "How long does it take for one to become pregnant? Our first entanglement was over two months ago, and it was certainly not our last."

Han Leifeng held his head. This was not happening.

It's true that he had already agreed to her terms, but he planned to drag things out for as long as possible. It wasn't within his considerations that she could get pregnant, at least not this quickly.

Unfortunately, Bai Meixiang didn't care about the earth-shattering effect her announcement seemed to have on Han Leifeng. Bringing out an ultrasound photo from her bag, she handed it to him, "So what are you going to do? It's been six weeks already."

Bai Meixiang's eyes reddened, but she smiled, "So the child I have waited for, that I've always wanted, should die just for some measly company? I'm disappointed in you."

She wanted to add, 'No wonder your first wife didn't want to return to you. Who can tolerate and love such a cold-blooded and callous person?'

But she held her tongue at the last moment. No sense in riling him up and causing him to hate her more. Either way, both of them were stuck together. He was the choice she made, and she planned to see it through to the end.

Giving up now would be like she was declaring that she had bad eyesight and made a mistake.

So she took a deep breath before speaking, "If that's the problem, I have a way to solve it. We can keep the pregnancy hidden for the time being, until all the obstacles in our path have been cleared off. Then we can get married. When the baby comes, we'll say it was a premature birth."

Han Leifeng would have applauded if he was watching someone else's life story, but unfortunately, it was his, and he wasn't impressed.

But as before, he had no choice.

He sighed heavily, "Alright, that's a plan. But I'm afraid the timing would be too off. Grandfather is still in the hospital, but he will recover soon. Once he's out, he'd be in control again. My contacts are not developed enough to confront him."
