Testing the Limits of Power

"This! This! This is so good! I-I... I have no words! If this is real then I can do so much from this." The first thing I have to do is test out some things then only I can move forward with it.

I was sitting on my bed, leaning my back against the wall and skimming through my mind, trying to figure out what and how much I could achieve from these powers. If what he said was true about transmitting voices throughout the world, then this could be used in various ways like causing mass panic and chaos or being the voice of GOD. The question is, which route should I choose and move forward?

If I were to use this on someone, then he or she will definitely be able to recognize my voice when I will use it in a global scale. This will bring me a lot of trouble if I am not careful enough. I'll have to plan out everything from the start before making my move and testing things out, otherwise, the consequences will be enormous.

I brainstormed on what I would do and how I would move forward from now on. Finally, after an hour of thinking, I decided to try this out on a child. One might question why a child. It's simply because testing my powers on a child is the safest bet, mostly because no one will take them seriously even if they were to spill the beans out.

I moved out from my bed, changed my shirt, tied my laces, and left my room. I started walking a bit further away from my house to a nearby park. I saw some kids playing there, but my focus was on a kid who was sitting alone on a bench eating an ice cream.

I decided to make him my first test subject. I stayed relatively far from him enough for him to not see me. I breathed in and thought if I should really do it. I didn't want to psychologically damage the kid. After a second, my eyes were focused on him, I thought of activating my powers. And then, it happened. I felt a connection with his mind.

"[Hey kid]," I relayed. The kid jumped out, almost dropping the ice cream he was eating. "Huh, Where, Who?" He spoke out, before giving him any more to say, I spoke first. "[This is your favorite superhero, I have a mission for you, are you up for the challenge?]" This made him more surprised, but more than that, he was excited as hell. He had a big grin on his face. "Are you really Spiderman? I can't believe you're real! Yes, Spiderman, I'm up for whatever you ask me to do?" He asked excitedly.

'It seems like he can hear my voice clearly without any problems,' I thought. And damn, these kids believe anything someone says if there is a mention of superheroes.

I should move on to the next step and try some other things. "[Yes kid, I'm your neighborhood-friendly Spiderman. I want you to throw the ice cream you're holding to that short kid over there.]"

It might sound stupid but I was trying to see if I could directly control him without any resistance.

The kid started thinking about it for a while, and then he simply threw the ice cream to the other kid.

Was this ability just limited to transmitting voices only, or could it be used to control others' behaviors and actions? If it were possible to directly control people's actions using my voice only and without any resistance, then this changed everything.

But it seems I can't directly control his actions. Instead, I could use my words to influence him, and there seems to be some kind of buff that makes the bearer want to obey my commands, although it's really only a tiny bit. Most importantly, I could read the surface thoughts of the person I am connected to. Well, it might not be a lot, but it will help me greatly. It seems like the more I concentrate, the clearer their thoughts become.

I disconnected my thoughts from the kid and tried to connect my mind to a middle-aged guy walking in the distance. His thoughts were, 'I don't know how to ask my boss for a salary raise.' This power felt more comfortable the more I used it, and new ideas came into my mind. I changed my voice to match the man's and spoke into his mind, disguised as his own thoughts, 'If I don't walk two steps backward, I won't get the pay raise.' He heard it in his own voice.

He took two steps backwards and resumed walking. I disconnected my connection and started to think. It seemed like people would interpret it as nothing more than an internal monologue since hearing your own voice is not uncommon.

I became better at using my powers and decided to move to the next step. I tried to spread my consciousness to nearby people and slowly connected my mind with a handful of them. It seemed like I could manage their thoughts for now, so I started to increase the number of people. However, soon my head began to ache and I had to disconnect from them.

I came to the conclusion that reading too many thoughts at once would overwork my brain with the excessive amount of information. It was best to use my powers moderately. It didn't mean that I couldn't speak to them, but I couldn't read all their thoughts at once. Nonetheless, I felt like I could definitely speak with all of them without any strain.
