The trip north was uneventful, but the long journey was taking a toll of Evelyn. She was exhausted and George's anger was worrying. Clyde had also been acting strange towards her since they started their journey, but she could not worry about it. She needed to stay alert and focused on keeping her magic stable.
"We will stop in town for the night," Clyde declared as they came to a fork in the trail.
Evelyn was relieved to hear that. It meant a nice hot bath and a warm bed to sleep in. She nodded her head silently and thanked her lucky stars that they would not be sleeping outside again.
"I have some things to do so Kallista, Maxine, and Geoffrey will go with you to the inn," he explained.
Evelyn wondered what kind of business Clyde had in town, but she knew that if he wanted her to know he would have said so. Kallista and Maxine both nodded their heads and the group split off in opposite directions.
