CHAPTER 1 -  Dusk's Veil

Eldric lay on his bed, his gaze fixed on the ceiling above, lost in thought. Outside, the evening cast long shadows over the village, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. The day had been uneventful, yet Eldric couldn't shake the feeling of restlessness that gnawed at him.

"What day is it again?" he muttered to himself, his voice barely a whisper in the quiet room. Time seemed to slip away from him, each passing moment blurring into the next.

Suddenly, a voice broke through the silence, drawing his attention to the window. It was Marcus, his friend, calling out to him from the street below.

"Eldric! Let's go meet the others in town!" Marcus shouted, his voice filled with excitement.

Eldric blinked, momentarily startled by the interruption. With a sigh, he pushed himself off the bed and made his way to the window, joining Marcus on the street.

Together, they began their journey towards the town, the evening air crisp and cool around them. As they walked, their path intersected with that of an old man standing at the roadside, his voice filled with urgency.

"The world is ending! It's already begun!" the old man Shout outed, his words echoing through the quiet village.

Eldric exchanged a puzzled glance with Marcus, unsure of what to make of the old man's cryptic words. Before they could react, the old man's gaze fell upon Eldric, and a look of astonishment crossed his weathered face.

"Young lad with the great and unimaginable destiny," the old man exclaimed, his voice tinged with awe.

Eldric's brow furrowed in confusion. "What are you talking about?" he asked, his voice laced with skepticism.

But before the old man could respond, figures emerged from the shadows, clad in dark uniforms and bearing symbols of authority. They moved swiftly, surrounding the old man and leading him away.

"We can't let you spreading such nonsense," one of them said sternly, his voice carrying an air of authority.

Eldric watched in silence as the old man was led away, a sense of unease settling in the pit of his stomach. What had the old man meant by his cryptic words? And why had he singled out Eldric?

As they continued towards the town, Eldric couldn't shake the feeling that their encounter with the old man was just the beginning of something much larger and more mysterious than he could have ever imagined.

As the dark figures led the old man away, Eldric felt a surge of curiosity and apprehension. Ignoring Marcus's puzzled look, he made a snap decision.

"Go without me, Marcus," Eldric said, his voice urgent. " I'll be there soon"

Marcus hesitated, clearly torn between staying with Eldric and joining their friends. But ultimately, he nodded understandingly and continued on his way, leaving Eldric alone on the deserted street.

Heart pounding with a mixture of fear and excitement, Eldric followed the group from a safe distance. They weaved through narrow alleys and dimly lit streets until they reached a secluded corner of the town that Eldric had never ventured to before.

From his hiding spot behind a crumbling stone wall, Eldric watched as the old man and his captors entered a small, dilapidated building tucked away between two larger structures. The building looked abandoned, its windows boarded up and its door hanging off its hinges.

Eldric's curiosity burned brighter than ever as he crept closer to get a better view. Peering through a crack in the boarded-up window, he strained to hear what was being said inside.

The interior was dimly lit, with only a flickering candle casting eerie shadows on the walls. The old man sat hunched over at a rickety wooden table, surrounded by the dark figures who loomed over him menacingly.

"We know you have information," one of the figures said, his voice low and menacing. "Tell us what you know, and if you want to REST in peace."

But the old man remained defiant, his gaze steady despite the fear in his eyes. "I've already said too much," he replied, his voice resolute. "You'll have to do more than threats to make me talk."

Eldric's breath caught in his throat as he listened to the tense exchange. What kind of information did the old man possess that had attracted the attention of these shadowy figures?

Before he could ponder further, the door suddenly swung open, revealing the imposing figure of a man with shimmering golden hair. His presence seemed to fill the room, his gaze icy and calculating as it swept over the scene before him.

"You're the one Spreading rumors of the world's demise?" the golden-haired man demanded, his voice cutting through the silence like a whip.

The old man bristled at the accusation. "Who are you to demand answers?" he retorted defiantly.

But the golden-haired man cut him off with a cruel laugh. " Who am I ?", "The likes of you have no right to question me," he sneered. "Know your place, filthy pig." Without another word, the golden-haired man ordered the others to leave, instructing them not to return until he called for them. Eldric remained hidden, his breath caught in his throat as he witnessed the unfolding horror.

The golden-haired man grabbed the old man's neck with a cruel grip, casting a spell that caused the old man's body to contort in agony. Eldric watched in horror as the old man's flesh and bones melted away, leaving nothing but a pool of viscous liquid on the ground.

A sense of dread washed over Eldric as he realized the true extent of the golden-haired man's power. This was no ordinary individual—he was something far more sinister and dangerous.

Suddenly, Eldric's heart skipped a beat as the golden-haired man's gaze turned in his direction. "Who's there?" the man demanded, his voice echoing through the empty alleyway. "Show yourself!"

Eldric's blood ran cold as he remained hidden, his heart pounding with fear. But before he could react, the golden-haired man cast a spell, causing Eldric's body to float off the ground and move towards him. Helpless to resist, Eldric found himself kneeling before the golden-haired man, his body trembling with fear. "A kid ?, Who are you? And what are you doing here?" the man demanded, his voice cold and commanding.

Eldric's mind raced as he struggled to find the right words. "I... I was just passing by," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I saw that old man and... and I was curious."

The golden-haired man's piercing gaze bore into Eldric, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. "Just passing by, hmm?" he mused, his voice dripping with skepticism. "Curiosity killed the cat, they say. And yet here you are, meddling in affairs that don't concern you." Eldric's heart raced as he felt the weight of the golden-haired man's scrutiny. He knew he had stumbled into something far beyond his comprehension, something dangerous and otherworldly.

But even as fear threatened to overwhelm him, Eldric's curiosity burned brighter than ever. He needed answers, needed to understand the true nature of the golden-haired man and his terrifying power.

"I... I didn't mean any harm," Eldric stuttered, his voice trembling. "I just... I wanted to know what was happening. What... what you are."

The golden-haired man regarded Eldric with a mixture of amusement and disdain. "What I am is of no concern to you," he replied coldly. "But mark my words, boy. Meddle in my affairs again, and you'll find yourself facing consequences far worse than a mere reprimand..."

"Did… did you just using magic?" Eldric asked, his voice trembling with a mixture of fear and fascination.

With a flick of his wrist, the golden-haired man released his hold on Eldric, And The golden-haired man regarded Eldric with a cold, calculating gaze, his lips curling into a disdainful smirk. "Magic is but a tool," he replied, his voice dripping with superiority. "A means to an end. But power... power is what truly matters. And I wield it with unrivaled mastery."

Eldric's heart sank at the golden-haired man's words, a sense of dread settling in the pit of his stomach. He had hoped for answers, for some semblance of understanding in the face of the unknown. But the golden-haired man's cryptic response only served to deepen the mystery surrounding him.

As Eldric struggled to make sense of the golden-haired man's enigmatic words, he couldn't shake the feeling that he had stumbled upon something far beyond his comprehension, something ancient and terrifyingly powerful. But even as fear threatened to overwhelm him, Eldric knew that he could not turn away from the truth. Whatever lay ahead, whatever dangers awaited him in the darkness, he was determined to face them head-on, armed with nothing but his courage and his insatiable thirst for knowledge.

As Eldric struggled to gather his wits, a sudden movement caught his eye. Emerging from the shadows behind the golden-haired man were several figures, their presence shrouded in darkness. Among them was a woman with long, flowing silver hair, her face concealed beneath a hooded cloak.

Despite the darkness that veiled her features, Eldric could sense a powerful aura emanating from her, an air of authority that matched that of the golden-haired man. As she moved gracefully beside him, her cloak billowing in the night breeze, Eldric couldn't help but be captivated by her ethereal beauty.

Their eyes met for a fleeting moment, and Eldric felt a shiver run down his spine at the intensity of her gaze. There was something hauntingly familiar about her, something that stirred a long-forgotten memory deep within him.

Before he could ponder further, the golden-haired man spoke a few terse words to his subordinates, his voice carrying an unmistakable air of command. With a flick of his wrist, he conjured a swirling mist that enveloped them all, obscuring them from view.

Eldric watched in awe as the figures disappeared into the darkness, leaving behind nothing but a faint echo of their presence. As the mist dissipated, Eldric was left standing alone in the empty alleyway, his mind reeling with questions.

Who were these mysterious individuals, and what role did they play in the unfolding events? And most importantly, what connection did they have to the ancient power that had just been unleashed before his eyes?

As he pondered these questions, Eldric couldn't shake the feeling that he had stumbled upon something far greater than himself, something that would change the course of his life forever. With a heavy heart and a sense of trepidation, he turned and made his way back home, knowing that the answers he sought lay hidden in the shadows of the night.
