The Ways: Path of the Enigma

I tread into the deepest, darkest secrets of the universe. Amidst the storm I listen to the voice of reason. My path is not held down by anything else but myself. For I am my own body, mind and soul. My will shall penetrate all of doubts and fears I face. All life shall know my own name. ----------------------------&&&&---------------------------- Currently on heavy editing. This is my first book and I am really eager to make my story clean, not perfect but acceptable. So please if you have any inputs, insights or advices you are free to do so. Please forgive my grammar too as english is my third language. My vocabulary is limited and I consider writing this as a learning experience. I do research on my words a lot and will use new ones if necessary. Thank you and have a good time reading. Approximately 1500-1800 words per chapter. Story is slow-paced.(maybe) If you guys want to have a discord chat maybe you could strike me up and say it to my face. (I'm lonely so plz...) Also if you aren't lazy to read the Prologue here it is: In the beginning, loud screams and wails echoed throughout the void, supernatural powers spread out the lands and in turn, evolved the surrounding creatures into monstrosities that devoured and prey on the weak. Humans and other intellectual species hid in the dark, fearing what they may become if they stand face to face with the horrors across the lands. Though the time that passed through the lands made the beings impatient and tried to devise a way to kill the horrors. They made tools, crafted plans and waited. They had succeeded and from the corpse of the first horror they brought down brought blessings to the people making them have the morale and ingredients to make artifacts which was made to kill the monsters. They had brought down many monsters with their breakthrough and made a place for themselves in the surface. Humans were the first civilization to fight the horrors whilst the elves cower in the protection of the tree's leaves and the Dwarves hid deep into the crevices. Though scared they also found a way to fight the monstrosities in their own traditional way. Until one day the age of the supernatural came. Powers came to be and their users brought changed to the lands, exiling the horrors into the Forsaken Lands as they claimed the surfaces for their own. The First Emperor of Humanity brought to light the spark of humans, whilst the First Elven King revitalized the lands. The First Dwarven Enchanter crafted legendary artifacts. Finally bringing the Brilliance and Pale Era. These are the Recorded Legends in Grandia Lands, some legends were left untold as the First Rulers suddenly vanished. However people had already forgotten about it only to be told as storytimes for children but there is a prophecy that they would return, and that is the day the whole lands will end.

Chapter 13: Adjustment.

My visit to Tom's house was rather fine. I was even surprised to know that Tom had a huge collection of wooden figurines stocked inside of his room where we kinda hanged out by being imaginative with his toys. I enjoyed it though even if my mind was like an adult right now. The feeling of nostalgia didn't let me get bored so quickly.

I only realized while playing that it was getting a bit late so I bade farewell to Tom and her mother.

Left to my own thoughts again, I didn't struggle like before as I diverted my attention to the memories Yirene had gave me. They were memories of her supernatural life, which involves her use of Ether, procuring potions and a lot of ideas that could help me in improving my supernatural power. However I could not utilize it well enough that I could make big strides due to the red pill that the leader of the three doofus made me eat.

"Sigh..." I was already in my room when the sky started to emit moonlight.

In this world it was always a full moon, so there was no pitch black darkness covering the lands but the light was just change from Fluorescent to a slightly darker LED.

Staring at the big circular rock at the sky gave me a sense of comfort. So because of that I decided to think about my dream, a goal or ambition.

"What do I want to do in this world?"

"I did say I want to explore the secrets of this world and also I would try to live through this life not just to survive, but is it what I really want?" I stared unblinking at the moon, I felt its pulse. A certain pull that beckoned me to listen.

"Sigh, maybe I'll have one in the future. but I shouldn't force myself to follow a single goal that'll be detrimental to a person like me, sigh..." With my head already embracing the pillow, I closed my eyes.

"Today's lesson will be about Ether." Harian grinned widely.

"Maybe you've heard of it before, as one of the rarest form of supernatural power who wouldn't desire its ability? However I'll break those misconceptions to all of you. Ether is by no means powerful than the other supernatural powers but it only operates in its clear set of rules that few people knows. I'll describe its pathway first to let all of you know why."

"The first Ether pathway is called Soulshifters, individuals who have this power have the ability to bend their souls into a different one fully copying a human or a creatures appearance and powers, however shifting their soul causes a huge price to be paid, and that is the longer they stay in their form, the harder it is to go back."

"The second one is called Soul Ritualist, this one is a tricky pathway as the power it holds is proportional to the things you offer to it. Failing to pay the price means that your soul would pay for the debt."

"Lastly, The third pathway which is called Soul Eaters. This is a nasty pathway that involves sucking out the soul of the fallen and use it to their advantage. However the more they consume souls, the more insane they would be."

"So Ether in a way is a completely risky supernatural power to have, moreso if the user cannot control the obsession it brings to their psyche."

"That is all I can say about Ether, so by tomorrow I expect all of you to participate at my test tomorrow. Good luck younglings."

"Ether is...kinda a bit pricy don't you think?" Tom inquired.

"I supposed but that doesn't mean it would end in a tragedy?"

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"Nothing, I just had something flash through my mind. Sorry for the impulsiveness."

"No worries, I just think that Ether is more of a curse rather than a proper power you know?"

"Maybe, if they only know how to use it."

"Alright everyone, someone on this class had submitted an invaluable piece of information about Giryotes. So Virule Hearst, you are now exempted from this class and will be directly put to the jurisdiction of the Supernatural Researchers for an hour, they need to know more about your interesting input on the essay you submitted." I was astonished, truthfully I didn't expect my random input would work just like that, but I think this is my fault for being a bit careless.

The Supernatural Researchers Office was located at the highest point of the academy, meaning I had to take the floor rings to get there. It was a smooth ride and the bonus in that was I had taken a glimpse of the capital on a higher level. I noticed in my short sightsee that the capital was build for maximum protection against intruders, this notion that I had intuitively guess was because of the symmetrical placing of the walls, they formed a pentagon and in the center of the pentagon was the Palace. The academy was located on one side of the wall while the other important facilities that governed each side was more than capable to support each other as they contained a huge amount of Supernatural users inside, the other buildings were the barracks, the church, the merchants association and the guilds.

I had widened my eyes at the realization that the buildings placement was not built randomly but each one supported another to create a unified defense with the palace taking command. I shivered at the thought of the magnificent planning they've implemented on the capital and by how much I had supposedly underestimated the minds of the people here.

Arriving at the top floor of the academy, I felt there was something odd. There was this dense feeling of energy permeating through the air. It stayed far away from me though.

"Aha you're finally here Noble Son of Hearst, didn't thought someone of your caliber would be his son." I raised an eyebrow at the person standing at the hall just waiting for me.

"Cautious I see, I like that. However we don't have time to delay, knowledge fades away with time so it would be a pleasure to have you enter our office, do be surprise at what it holds." Everything about this ploy seemed well organized, I don't sense anything suspicious so I followed through with the person's words.

Entering the office, a faint feeling passed by me, and numerous eyes turned to my attention. They all had different reactions, ranging from simple curiosity to my kind of type girl(Yandere). The surrounding items inside were a desk and a stack of papers, they also had tubes that contained an unknown creature. I noticed that it was just one part of the office as there was a blurry screen at the other side.

"Welcome, this is the Supernatural Researcher's Office! We have a lot of things to talk about Virule, so why don't we start by finding a comfortable place to sit in?" I nodded and we moved to an empty table just at the center of the office. How cute, talk about privacy...

"Now let me start by introducing my name, I am Pelendero Eunstan, The head researcher of this floor specifically made to accommodate intelligent beings such as us." I looked at the creepy gaze the other people were giving me, and I could only facepalm myself in my thoughts.

"What we would like to know is the essay you submitted to your teacher, was it yours or was it given to you by anyone?" Pelendero squinted his eyes at me.

"It's mine."

"Good, now we would like to have...a more detailed explanation from you, do you care to elucidate?"

"It was just something that cross my mind, Sir."

"Oh my, though it was likely a passing thought however your passing thought brought significant improvement to our research here. So if you have any other inputs other than the one on the essay we would handsomely reward you with suitable incentives."

"Hmm...I may have just another passing thought..."

"Yes? What is it?"

"What if you make specific adjustments in the body to facilitate the absorption and release of Giryotes smoothly? This could be done by attaching conductive materials inside the body so that Giryotes could flow freely and efficiently...rather than making Giryotes be absorb and release in our physical body's current composition that is inefficient in harnessing Giryotes." I wanted to say this to them but I held it back because there was a certain possibility of them creating a super weapon that would obliterate this world.

I know a lot of things that I could apply here that would break the system but is it really worth it? People here are blindsided to the technological advancement they could make because of relying on a supernatural way of advancement but if I just tell them that they could make nuclear's wouldn't that spell millions of blood in my hands? I don't want to deal with the guilt like Alfred Nobel had.

So even if it was a great invention, it would only devolve the world here, it'd be good if they use it on calamitous situations like how Godzilla would suddenly escape the forbidden lands to bring havoc. But what if they also use it to point at other species? That would isolate relations with them and maybe even create an era of a world war. History already said that every civilization here had various ways of repelling the horrors, but would that also mean they would have a trump card in their sleeves if the worst situation comes?

"Hmm can you make frozen drinks? I like to drink one with a crushed frockberry..." I always wanted to be a ice cream inventor in my past life you know...

Pelendero blinked many times before opening his mouth yet when he tried to say something he stopped, then he brought his finger to his chin. Contemplating if what I said was somehow viable.

"I think we could work on that." He gave me a wry smile not knowing if I was a genius or a dumb child that somehow had luckily peek into the secrets of the lands.

"Alright, we thank you for your time Mr. Hearst, tell your father I said hello okay? Your previous input about the body being purified by Giryotes to be facilitate more functions and bring benefits was a helpful idea. I hope you bring more fruitful finds in the future."

"You're welcome!" Just act like a fool...act fool...

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.

Sorry for the delay... yesterday was my Father's birthday and I went to visit his grave.
